60 of 269 · most liked firstApart from Longest Day, Bridge too Far and BOTRK that's a fairly unimaginative list. For my money, the original Dunkirk film, for all its ahistorical indulgences ... is much better than the 2017 one. And Pearl Harbor should not be on any list of great films ever. www.thetimes.com/article/a4bc...

neutral · AI labelView post →My fave Nolan bits/bobs in no order: •Opening sequence w/ plane in Dark Night Rises •Bowie as Tesla in The Prestige •Matt Damon in Interstellar •How much money he got a studio to put into a movie as insane as Tenet •Everything about Dunkirk Can’t wait to see The Odyssey in 70MM this weekend.

neutral · AI labelView post →To be clear, I don't think Dunkirk is a film you are supposed to...enjoy...necessarily? But it is supposed to be moving and cathartic and I found it so. 'it made me feel a feeling' which is all we ask movies to do.
positive · AI labelView post →Not my favorite Nolan film but I’m biased as a history nerd in favor of Dunkirk and Oppenheimer but still vintage imo, 10/10 recommend
positive · AI labelView post →Quentin Tarantino called this shot in DUNKIRK the greatest from any war movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →DUNKIRK was released 9 years ago today. Christopher Nolan’s first war film, and acclaimed as one of the great World War II movies this century, the story of how it came to be is as epic as the film… 1/44

neutral · AI labelView post →Christopher Nolan won the Oscar for best director for “Oppenheimer.” This is his first directing Oscar. Before this year, Nolan had been nominated for directing only once, for the 2017 film “Dunkirk.” www.nytimes.com/live/2024/03...
neutral · AI labelView post →This is a story of bravery, and standing up to racism. But you can't put that in the Dunkirk movie without raising all kinds of other questions... 🤔 * Who gave that racist order? * Who was in command of the other Indian and African units? * How many refused that order, vs left their men behind?
neutral · AI labelView post →Dunkirk would arguably be Nolan's best film if he didn't gum it up with his time dilation nonsense
neutral · AI labelView post →The DEI is one thing, Nolan is desecrating France the country as well. This is the beach at Dunkirk, vs. the movie. Gross.
neutral · AI labelView post →Dunkirk (2017) Directed by Christopher Nolan
neutral · AI labelView post →Nolan goes to the movies every week and sits in the front row of the biggest screen he can find and goes “movie movie movie” with his wife he loves very much and he’s strongest when embodies that. Also Dunkirk because it starts off being stiff upper lip stuff and then just turns into a slaughter.
positive · AI labelView post →Tarantino’s Top Ten list of the Quarter Century is funny. Mad Max Fury Road, Lost in Translation, Midnight In Paris, Dunkirk… this is like a program guide for a cable movie channel
neutral · AI labelView post →Relax. This isn't an endorsement of all of his policies, or of military, or wars, or MI-6. I'm just pointing out that there's a connection between politician Ashdown's work opposing racism and Islamaphobia, and opposing fascism, and Dunkirk. Nolan, or someone, could tell that story in film.🤷🏿♂️
neutral · AI labelView post →Anyone fancy taking a stab at ID'ing this small warship? Filmed in Dover harbour, probably 1 June 1940, during the Dunkirk evacuation. Armed with something like a 4-inch gun. Can't find a ref to a vessel with pennant A14 being involved but here we are. Full film: www.iwm.org.uk/collections/...
neutral · AI labelView post →What Nolan really has is a keen sense of timing: 'The Dark Knight Rises' during Occupy Wall Street, 'Dunkirk' amid Brexit, and now a film about hyper-masculine ancient Greeks that I'm sure in no way taps into the imagery of today’s far right.
neutral · AI labelView post →SICARIO's traumatic elements work because it's so unremmittingly, constantly tense, there's no moment of relaxation. but as an effective anti-war film that also allows space for the idea of heroism, DUNKIRK also pulls this off.
positive · AI labelView post →Commander Bolton (played by Kenneth Branagh) in the Dunkirk film is a partially fictionalized version of Bill Tennant.
neutral · AI labelView post →Today's work curiosity - reviewing some film footage of British troops arriving at Dover after being evacuated from Dunkirk, and this chap seems to have brought a sword back with him (perhaps an 1897 Infantry Officer's type).
neutral · AI labelView post →I wouldn't count Casablanca or Bridge, tbh, both films set during war but not war films, if you get me? Off the top of my head, Come and See, Dunkirk, Saving Private Ryan, Das Boot, Zulu. Maaaaybe Battle of Algiers (great film, not sure if it counts)
neutral · AI labelView post →For me, DUNKIRK is still Nolan’s best and most total film — it’s as mythically heroic as THE DARK KNIGHT, as dreamy as INCEPTION, as morally uneasy as MEMENTO, and as much a Borgesian labyrinth as INTERSTELLAR. Every shot a perfect study of movement and behavior. A masterpiece
positive · AI labelView post →One movie a day for 365 days. 101/365: Mrs. Miniver is like Madame Bovary in reverse. Gentle, sympathetic, enduring. Her only foible: her rose garden. What might have been saccharine propaganda in Wyler's hands is a masterpiece. The boats leaving for Dunkirk is a cinema lesson.
neutral · AI labelView post →“Sandernistas” What movie do you think will win Best Picture at the 2018 Oscars, my money is on Dunkirk
neutral · AI labelView post →between this and recent set pics I’m increasingly confident we’re going to see the end of the Trojan War (either to open the movie or cut throughout DUNKIRK style) and the idea of Nolan doing an epic swords and sandals battle sequence will sustain me for months. Damon looks good!
neutral · AI labelView post →Every Christopher Nolan movie should have a frustratingly ambiguous ending like Inception. Even the ones about actual historical events like Dunkirk and Oppenheimer
neutral · AI labelView post →This kid knows how to talk and he’s very smart. I did not know they consulted 50 Survivors of the Titanic for this movie. And the officer who survived and saved soldiers at Dunkirk. #TCMParty #ANightToRemember
neutral · AI labelView post →i can't believe that i forgot to talk about it in my review of DUNKIRK (2017) but tom hardy literally plays snoopy as the flying ace. it was the best part of the movie
positive · AI labelView post →Anthony Maras’ PRESSURE (2026) is a terrific little film, especially if you’re a WWII history buff. It’d make a helluva triple feature with Nolan’s DUNKIRK and Wright’s DARKEST HOUR. Highly recommended. @thedigitalbits.bsky.social @focusfeatures.bsky.social
neutral · AI labelView post →I watched Dunkirk last night for the first time and that movie absolutely rips.

neutral · AI labelView post →Watching an episode of Foyle's War that takes place during the events of Dunkirk, and I realize I've almost no memory of that movie even though I saw it in IMAX. I remember images, that's about it. Might have something to do with how awful the audio was.
neutral · AI labelView post →OK I do really like Dunkirk but that's cause he really let's his cold, robotic style work for the film itself, the emotionless nature of random chance on full display in the opening sequence (there's no reason our lead makes it out of the town alive aside dumb luck) echoed in the whole film
positive · AI labelView post →REVIEW / Atonement (2007). **Atonement (2007)** *Directed by Joe Wright* The story is powerful and emotional, based on Ian McEwan's novel about a single catastrophic lie and its decades-long consequences. The screen adaptation by Christopher Hampton is as strong as, or stronger than, the source material. This is an incredible, maybe perfect, screenplay brought to life by Joe Wright with a visual style that's utterly unique. Wright doesn't just film the story; he creates a cinematic language…
neutral · AI labelView post →Dunkirk [2017] is a Train Movie
neutral · AI labelView post →Mads Mikkelsen is set to star in #Sirius, the directorial debut of Oscar-winning editor Lee Smith (‘Insterstellar’ and ‘Dunkirk’). 🎬 The film is inspired by the real-life Sirius Patrol, the Danish special forces unit charged with defending Greenland’s 8,700-mile frozen coastline.
neutral · AI labelView post →Rewatching the original Dunkirk (1958) - reminds me what a great film it is. It also reminds me of my Dad, who was captured in the perimeter, 1 June 1940.
neutral · AI labelView post →OK I'm half way through Dunkirk, I'm sorry if there are nit pickers throwing dirt at this film for historical inaccurancies, they are seriously missing the overall power of the intense and visceral narrarative -this is masterful cinema on a number of levels (Stan) in Australia.
positive · AI labelView post →I think Dunkirk is a much more enjoyable film when you realise it's not actually attempting to tell you what happened during Operation Dynamo
positive · AI labelView post →man was like “what if i wrote and edited a movie to function like a Shepard tone for the illusion of constant rising tension, using the elasticity of cinematic time to construct flashbacks and simultaneous climaxes without ever losing forward momentum?” and the result happened to be Dunkirk

neutral · AI labelView post →I remember watching the Nolan Dunkirk film and thinking for the first time (to my shame), ‘god we just left the French on their own’. The exceptionalism of British history teaching really sticks with you.
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm just gonna commit to the bit-that-isn't-a-bit and suggest watching Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, which is a movie about being afraid that fascists are going to kill you and how to deal with it
positive · AI labelView post →This is why I think Dunkirk is an incredible war movie. That and Hardy’s affinity for acting with a facemask on
positive · AI labelView post →She must have hated that Dunkirk movie. Retreat? Not us Brits
neutral · AI labelView post →Christopher Nolan didn’t make a pro-surveillance state movie, an anti-Occupy Wall Street movie and use prison labor on Dunkirk just for people on Twitter to be calling him woke
neutral · AI labelView post →Revisiting Christopher Nolan's DUNKIRK, and I can't fathom a world in which this isn't his absolute best movie by a healthy margin.
positive · AI labelView post →Dunkirk (2017) #OscarsMonth Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing #filmsky #moviesky
neutral · AI labelView post →Memento, dude sucks. Insomnia, dudes suck. The Dark Knight movies are all about a guy who sucks vs. a guy who rocks, though they dare you to decide which is which. Dunkirk is a dudes rock movie except for the Nazis. Interstellar is love rocks. Inception, dudes kinda nice with it but ultimately suck?

neutral · AI labelView post →I’m sorry but I don’t want to watch Dunkirk or 1917 or any so-called good movie.
negative · AI labelView post →saw DUNKIRK at the Alamo tonight aka the first movie in Christopher Nolan’s War, Wet Trilogy
neutral · AI labelView post →100 years old. Endeavour, a cockle bawley from Leigh on Sea. It was requisitioned for the Dunkirk evacuation in May 1940 and also appeared in the recent movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →This would have done numbers last year. Maybe with an edit of the Dunkirk movie poster. Truly, youth is wasted on the young
neutral · AI labelView post →THE ODYSSEY is the best movie of its kind since OPPENHEIMER which was the best movie of its kind since TENET which was the best movie of its kind since DUNKIRK which was the best movie of its kind since INTERSTELLAR which was the best movie of its kind since INCEPTION.
positive · AI labelView post →Different from Dunkirk, a film that for a variety of reasons annoys the fuck out of me but which I am drawn back to all the time anyway.
neutral · AI labelView post →I imagine with cinema there's also a certain pressure from studios to retread the story 'everybody knows' about certain things, for fear audiences would reject anything other than the familiar orthodoxy. Someone said that Nolan's Dunkirk was not a film about Dunkirk so much as the myth of Dunkirk
neutral · AI labelView post →May be too close to the Odyssey with shades of Dunkirk, but he could probably do an amazing film of Shackleton/The Endurance
