Duke Grabowski: Mighty Swashbuckler! is a point-and-click adventure game spinoff of Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island, developed by Venture Moon Industries for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android via Ouya. In August 2014, a crowdfunding campaign was launched to fund the title, originally envisioned for a modest two-to-four hours of gameplay. As it neared completion, however, the game found a publisher and additional… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

BottomLine at the Top: This game is to Monkey Island what Orville is to Star Trek. A fantastic P&C adventure whose only flaw is that it ends so, so quickly. ------------------------------------- Pros ------------------------------------- -Top level P&C production values. Art, voice acting, music, and dialogue are all excellent. -Runs well at high resolution on systems that are more moderately powered (i.e. mine.) -Detailed environments with lots of stuff to click on and hear Duke's bizarre…

Very funny and short classical point-and-click adventure game from the people who have brought us 'The Curse of Monkey Island'. Now, that was a masterpiece even if it was created without Ron Gilbert, but... most of the later works by Bill Tiller and Larry Ahern turned out to be, well, not so good. 'A Vampyre Story' and 'Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island', in spite of their similar humor and visual style, were not successful and, to tell the truth, rather boring. Luckily, 'Duke Grabowsky' falls…

This game is pretty odd: from one side you can see that the team behind it is experienced in crafting point and click adventure, while the game itself is not that unforgettable. PROS: + Great colorful graphics, with a 3D-like enviroment that still feels warm + Witty and funny dialogues, with some good laughs + Good voice acting CONS: - It is a bit too obsequious to the good old Monkey Island: few decades passed and I would have expected something newer and refreshing. The only main…

Funny and cute albeit very short game which features well portrayed women. Just goes to show that we don't mind a man being stupid, as long as he's honest and kind and willing to do the heavy lifting.

“I can’t help but feel I’ve been ripped off.” ~Guybrush Threepwood The story of Bill Tiller is... Kinda sad when you think about it. Then again, many others ended up the same way. People we used to worship back in the days ended up losing all of our trust and all the cult status. Peter Molyneux, who gave us games like Dungeon Keeper, Black & White and Fable, ended up being a fraud and a liar who scam people on Kickstarter with his empty promises. Brian Fargo, a man behind Wasteland and the…

Not Monkey Island but good fun This game needs attention. It’s sad when good games like this are overshadowed by achievement spam shovelware. This game is simple. In all ways. Graphics, gameplay, story. But it manages to do everything very nicely. It reminds other point&click games and has that Monkey Island vibe. This one is a funny one. Great characters. You start liking them from the very beginning. You do puzzles in a traditional point&click fashion - by collecting items and using them…

Sorry Bill, this was a failed attempt. When I saw this game and the big names behind it I had to give it a shot. Bill Tiller and Dave Grossman were extensively involved and Ron Gilbert collaborated. The biggest problem that I have is that the game is basically a dumbed down version of Monkey Island 1 Chapter 1 (The three trials). You not only get a really short game (2 hours max) that may or may not have future installments, but the story is not original. In this game you have to woo three…

If Steam had a maybe option for a recommendation I would probably give it to Duke Grabowski, Mighty Swashbuckler. There really is nothing terribly wrong with the game but there is nothing great either. The gameplay is pretty typical for a point and click adventure game and it works well for the most part. The story has its' moments but in other areas it could have used some work. It might just be me but the game seems to think it is funnier than it actually is. I can see that the game is…

Across my nearly three-decade adventure gaming life I have come to find two factors to be of incredible importance: 1. The Puzzles 2. The Humour Duke Grabowski disappointingly falters on both. Point and click adventures have long been plagued by nonsensical puzzles. Much to its detriment Duke Gabrowski has gone in the complete opposite direction, making its puzzles simple enough to be trivial. The aim of the game is to woo three ladies in the game's locale, Bodacious Bay, turning it into more…

Very funny point and click adventure game. The 3D rendered environment might be a bit overkill (making initial loading times way, way too long), but the artwork and animation is excellent. The writing is excellent, as the giant Duke goes bumbling through his adventures. Despite the game's stated goal, the entire game is a tribute to the virtues of women. This is a very short game, although it does tell a complete narrative. The puzzles are simple and straight forward, yet they are also thought…

A point and click adventure about a big stupid pirate (no, really!). This game is about 2 hours long, and the puzzles are quite easy. It has good voice acting and music. For achievement hunters, you should easily be able to get 100% in the 2 hours.

If you're a big fan of Monkey Island or Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island, this is a fun little diversion. I wouldn't pay full price for it since it feels like act 1 of a much larger game, and abruptly ends, but it's decent while it lasts, despite some questionable voice acting by kickstarter backers and constant plastering of backer names throughout the game. The character animations are also a little janky. Hopefully if they continue this series, they can tighten up the graphics on level 3.

I do not recommend this game to anyone, even for point and click adventure game fans. The only good thing about it is the art. - The dialogue is boring and the VO puts you to sleep. - They even have some people from the kickstarter voice some minor characters, and the lack of professional voice work for these characters is very noticeable. I understand the need to reward kickstarter supporters, but it can be done more subtly than that. - The puzzles are child play. - The game(if you can even…

Duke Grabowski a point and cilck adventure very much inspired by the Lucas Arts Monkey island style. Though it could never be quite as funny as Monkey island it does have a few moments. Puzzles are fairly easy to figure out, not as bad as Deponia or anything. Graphically comes off very well and the voice acting is very well done. Humor is a little dry at times and it does try a little too hard. Overall I'd recommend it definitely with a 7 dollar price tag you'll get your money's worth.…

It's hard to say whether Duke Grabowski is a bad game with good bits or a good game with a lot of flaws. I guess each player can determine that for themselves. I had fun, but couldn't help but lament a lot of the poor execution and missed opportunities that plague the game. It's very light on the gameplay, with actual puzzles being very scarce and quite unchallenging. The humour also doesn't live up to the LucasArts classics – not by a long shot. There are some funny moments in there, but a…

I really wanted to like this game. After all, I am a huge Lucas Arts games fan. I mean who doesn't love Maniac Mansion, Day of The Tentacle, and Monkey Island. Within the last few years, a few of the former Lucas Arts gang got together and worked on my new Favorite game - The Cave (which is full of brilliant dark humor and even had Chuck the Plant). I haven't finshed the game but what I have played is good, the strange characters of this game definitely remind me of Monkey Island - and that's a very good thing. I may be a bit biased though, since my first adventure game was Curse of Monkey Island, so I have a bit of a soft spot for pirate games :) Duke struck me as an odd choice for the main character, huge and very, very dumb. I really liked this little adventure. Everything was voiced and the graphics looked fine. Music is also good and matching the theme perfectly. Alas the humour did meet my expectations nicely, had a lot of fun with it. It took me only 3 hours to complete it, and I also did go thoroughly through all interaction dialogs, because I didn't want to miss something. The characters were fun and entertaining. The art and music was great and it had a nice flow to it. It isn't too long and the puzzles aren't frustrating or illogical...I know some hardcore adventure game fans might not like that about it, but it's perfect for me! If you are looking for few laughs I strongly suggest this game. It is a fairly simple puzzle game with clever character names and funny dialogue. The puzzles and game mechanics aren't spelled out to you, which is nice because they are easy to figure out on your own. A couple of tweaks to the text shadowing would be good, but despite that it looks great. It's definitely worth the $7-8 for a few hours of a feel good story and who knows you may just learn a thing or two about wooing the ladies.

This delightful little adventure game was made by gaming industry pioneers and veterans as a nostalgic labor of love -- and it shows in all the little details and of course the silly story! The story and the gameplay are completely good-hearted and any violence is depicted only in a humorous "uh-oh" way. Sure, the game is short, but only in a way that respects your time, there aren't any annoying tricks or convoluted puzzles just to prolong the gameplay.

Cute -- puzzles a little more straightforward than older adventure games, but that's not necessarily a bad thing (because I'd prefer they not be *too* obtuse). I think the Coconut Tree Lady says about everything I might want to say about the main quest, but as a short little adventure game it's worth the $8 or whatever. Occasional production polish issues with the text but nothing that bothers one too much.
