If features an amazing (if slightly whitewashed) depiction of Carroll by Ian Holm, and some of Jim Henson’s most effectively disturbing puppetry. Written by the legendary Dennis Potter.

And if not for the internet, I might be convinced I imagined it

unlabelledView post →DREAMCHILD (1985, Plex, #film) WOW. A bracing, queasy, meticulously assembled drama about Lewis Carroll and his chosen inspiration, the preadolescent Alice Pleasance Hargreaves. The script is redolent, the muppeteering is grotesque, and the performances are superb. h/t @gaijinrando.bsky.social

Henson did another superb griffon ( although not quite as good ) for the movie ‘Dreamchild’. Also, Charlene Sinclair <3

Probably the most similar to the haunting puppet in the film Dreamchild. saw a pretty dull production of rusalka last year, and In my head I thought Rackham couldve done the story more justice Fantasy/fairytales with natural detail was very much his thing

I particularly treasure him in Dreamchild (1985) and Dance With a Stranger (1985). The Sweet Hereafter was the rare chance he was given to be front and centre. Mesmerising.

Also for this weird Dennis Potter movie called Dreamchild, which is like Alice in Wonderland meets the Dark Crystal. But no Bowie.
unlabelledView post →Did you ever see the film Dreamchild? It's not an adaptation of Alice but does have many scenes from the book, interspersed with Alice Hargreaves' trip to America for Lewis's centenniel. It's from ages ago, but I remember liking it, being glad that child Alice had, like her inspiration, dark hair.
