Some years ago I worked in a new game of the Drawn to Life franchise. This is my favourite stage, and also the first one that I made for it. One cool thing of this game is how it mixed the pixel art with hand drawn stuff. 🔽 #gamedev #gameart #pixelart #drawntolife #indiegamedev #indiegames

WHERE'S THE BOSSES???? The game so far (almost 3 hours in) has just been a constant feeling of "HERE COMES A BOSS, HERE COMES A BOSS" and then it's just another uneventful chain of short puzzle levels. The gameplay is essentially -- play 3 short puzzle stages, then sit through 5 minutes of dialogue, then repeat. Also, somehow my character manages to always be facing AWAY from people during any conversations at all. The biggest entertainment of the game is laughing at it with my friends, but I…

Change is scary, y'all. This game isn't the same as the previous generation on the Nintendo DS. If you're looking for a true continuation, wait longer. Gameplay, it's a repetitive sequence where you would go from point A to point B, dig into someone's mind for 3 areas of puzzle platforming, then get rewarded with a few dialogues of the story. Rinse and repeat. Two Realm's music is amazing, like the previous games. The original composer of the series, David J. Franco, is responsible for…

I feel mixed but positive about the game. I kept my expectations in check since it was announced and never expected anything closely similar to the DS games, coming from a decade-long hiatus; as I've said before, that's a fairly unreasonable expectation. The new direction with puzzle-based levels is interesting, though not a bad move on its own. For what it's worth, I think these levels are better than DTL1, though less memorable and far more repetitive (I still can't get over the issues in the…

Something about giving this game a negative review isn't sitting with me right. The game has a lot of flaws, and it's clear that there were a lot of issues with bringing the IP back without a stylus and touch screen. I don't want to be at all partially responsible for less people buying the game and potentially causing the IP to take another decade long slumber. If you enjoyed DTL games in the past, I would try this out, and if you don't enjoy it, refund it.

If you're here, you're likely a Drawn to Life fan. There hasn't been a new game in 11 years, so you might be tempted to impulse-buy this. Buyer beware: the game's divisive even among fans. If you're interested in this and haven't already played the old DTL games or scribblenauts, I'd recommend looking at those instead. Two Realms is what it says on the tin: two realms. You can explore two lovely pixel art hubworlds filled with cute little characters and buildings all done in a style that's…

The art is nice, it's really really good, but the characters and backgrounds feel like they were made by two different people. Drawn to life was perhaps the most influential game of my childhood , behind its childish artstyle and seemingly innocent narrative lies a story of tragedy and suffering aswell as trauma, the original two installements drawn to life and drawn to life next chapter ( drawn to life wii edition is not officially cannon and as such will not be taking part of this discussion) were pieces of art that although had relatively repetitive gameplay shared a long narrative with emotion and actual care put…

If you're a fan of Drawn to Life, this game isn't for you. And if you're not a fan of the series, this game is also not for you. Drawn to Life: Two Realms is a far cry from the series' roots, and worse than that is just boring. The fun platforming levels are replaced with what are essentially unpolished micro games that are either dirt easy or nails tough with no real natural progression. On top of that, you have to place items and enemies in each level, which could've been done well, but…

What I got wasn’t what I expected at all. It’s nice to see the series return along with the characters, but it’s held back by a lot. Notably, the change in gameplay genre was a very poor decision. Drawn to Life was far from a perfect video game but what it certainly had was incentive towards continuing the game to unlock and draw more of your town. In that regard the game worked perfectly in terms of a reward system, getting to see your town grow and expand as you played, as well as fun explorative levels that rewarded secret finding. This doesn't feel like a faithful continuation of Drawn to Life at all. I was very excited waiting for this game, but the stages are incredibly unsatisfying, the game is ridiculously short, and there's not nearly enough stuff to draw. In a sense it's like Paper Mario, you kinda changed it just for the sake of changing it, rather than just building upon what made the predecessors good. Hate to say it but this game is a sequel to DTL in the same way Nuts and Bolts was a sequel to Banjo-Kazoie. If it were it's own IP i'd probably like it but by tying itself to DTL it's been made to be compared to the old games and it just doesn't compare at any level besides the music. It's a darn shame too because this series is what pushed gaming as a medium into being worth it for me and now it's fallen like the rest.
