And the price? it's FAR to much for a 4h game with barely any replayability. -the combat is decent in terms of combos you can pull off and I love the environmental damage you can do, but block and dodge are just coin flips a lot of times, and the hitboxes aren't good. -the game loves to flood you with enemies. Almost every fight and bossfight are just that, and it's just boring and lame. -the cutscene artstyle is good, but the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is unbalanced and needs improvements in its controls. The hitboxes are flawed, and the gameplay feels quite boring. I find the character movement to be very stiff. While the graphics are acceptable, they look dated, reminiscent of earlier generations. I encountered several bugs that forced me to restart multiple times, hindering my progress through the levels. Additionally, some boss battles were frustrating, and the game felt overly simplistic. I had high expectations for "Double…

It almost feels like a side scrolling Fighting Force with a Tekken like combo system. But the vibe is more like Shin Nekketsu Kouha (River City Girls Zero). If You like that game, You may find DD Revive enjoyable. I also like the Hard Mode and the AI is good. This reboot finally has mooks that can make me struggle and often force…

unlabelledView post →Plainly put, this isn't a Beat'em up, this is an Action wrestling game, because that is what Yuke's is good at. Don't take my word for it, look up their games. This game is the same "gimmick" over and over, they use that exact word by the way no different than a W.W.E script. This game is not about chaining combos and weaving in and out of battle. This game is about breaking the enemies armor if they have it, opening them up to a "gimmick", knocking them into the environment. If your enemy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For this game to have come out in 2025, it feels like it's, at the very minimum, an SNES beat em up. The controls are not fluid at all, very janky. Some mechanics barely work at all (picking up weapons or grabbing or damaging downed enemies, god forbid they were next to each other), while others you have to completely rely on. The whole "gimmick" thing is a pain in the ass because you ALWAYS have to do it to make it through the hard parts of the game. You only get ONE combo string that you had…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will admit...when I first played this game, it was incredibly "janky". The 'flow' really didn't connect with me. Plus, there are just too many buttons to utilize in a side-scrolling beat-em-up (I still believe that to be true btw). It looked nice, but it was something that I played very sparingly with no real enthusiasm. I had just come off of Double Dragon Gaiden and while I knew this would be different, I had hoped that maybe some of those mechanics would have been utilized. However, after…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to give this a mixed but I did have a good time with it overall. Took me 21 hours to beat the game on normal with all characters but I'm also kinda middling at beat em ups. I think the game is fine for what it is, heck it even entertained before it got annoying, but it's also a bit overpriced and pales in comparison to a lot of higher tier beat em ups that just make this game look bad both figuratively and literally. As a fun brainless punchfest I think its a good time but only on a…

unlabelledView post →This game is better than people think. I've played about 17 hours at the time of writing this and have been having a good time. If you're a big fan of beat em ups in the conventional fashion you'll enjoy this game and if you enjoy the newer beat em up games that have roguelike elements as a sense of progression, you might want to steer clear. The combat is fun once you understand the games mechanics and quirks. This is a diamond in the rough in my opinion...and yes I also enjoy Double Dragon…

unlabelledView post →Like all beat 'em ups that really try to use the 3D space, Double Dragon Revive can be clunky. "Am I lined up with this enemy?" And the way you usually find out is by getting a face full of knuckles. But every game needs to settle in, and I'm liking this more and more as I press on. I'm getting used to judging the 3D space, knowing if my strikes will land or I'm about to catch some fists. And then later on the game goes into an actual 3D camera perspective (not just 2D side-on), and it's time…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game ain't it, chief. The movement feels sluggish, rigid, and imprecise. Hitboxes are all over the place. All actions are highly committed and leave you open to all kinds of cheap shots. Enemies are almost entirely cheap shots. Guarding is useless. Perfect dodges only work some of the time. Jumping attacks are annoyingly hard to land. The enemy can juggle you endlessly. The game relies heavily on environmental gimmicks for crowd control. Interrupting enemy special attacks is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OKAY, so I played Double Dragon Revive and uh... I kinda love it? It's a weird game, it feels like a remastered PS2 title with somewhat modernized visuals, but also one where the core gameplay was left intact. It's a quintessential 7/10 experience, the definition of dumb fun. Let me elaborate. 🧵
unlabelledView post →It has no right being THIS good. Look past the graphics and mediocre story and play this on hard with a friend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To give this game the title of “Revive” unfortunately does not solve the problem of the identity crisis this franchise has had for years now. There are a few positives I’ll give such as the voice cast, but the stiffness and frustration that come from the experience make this one hard to recommend at all. Double Dragon Gaiden had much more polish at launch compared to this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you ever wondered what 'Double Dragon 64' might've played like this is it. A complete misunderstanding of what made the original games good poorly implemented in an attempt to modernize. Controversial opinion, Double Dragon should stay 2D, Gaiden was awesome, following it up with this is pathetic. The story is also overdone just like the gameplay, the end of the first mission Marian reveals she let herself get captured 'on purpose' and she's actually a martial arts master too. I liked when…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Double Dragon Revive is a real disappointment, especially at its $52.95 AUD price tag. You should probably skip it, or wait for a 40–50% off sale. You’ll have a much better time with Absolum, Fight ’n’ Rage, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, Marvel Cosmic Invasion (when it releases in December), River City Girls 1/2, or Double Dragon Gaiden. This review hurts to write. I haven’t even finished Revive yet-- I'm still stuck on the NIGHTMARE boss fight at the end of Chapter 7-- and I’m honestly not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very generic. Nothing really special here. Not worth the price and a big letdown. I don't refund games unless they are terrible or have bad performance. I've been a Double Dragon fan since I was a teenager in the late 80's. Don't understand why Kunio games from Arc System Works are as good as ever or even better. Double Dragon titles have been subpar. This is the worst one yet I'm very sorry to say. Wanted this game to be good so badly. 3/10.

unlabelledView post →This game does not deserve the level of hate it's getting. After having played this for awhile, I deeply suspect that a lot of the complaints about "jank" are due to people approaching this game like a traditional beat 'em up in the vein of SOR 4, Shredder's Revenge, etc. When in fact, it is a true 3D eight direction style beat 'em up akin to Fighting Force or Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Cop. For a large portion of my playthrough, I initially subconsciously/instinctually found myself playing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really cool. I was pretty skeptical of the quality of it based on the graphics but there's a really good beat-em up here. The combo system in this game is really fleshed out and interesting, the story is typical beat-em up fare. Read the how to play section to understand what ALL your move options are, they seem to differ on what they actually do from character to character as well, so the characters seem pretty unique at first glance. I've only beaten the game with Jimmy (Who has…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Dragon Revive is just an okay beat'em up game that gets crushed by its comically steep competition. It's not as technical or well put together as other offerings like SoR 4 or Rotwood and it's lacking a personality of its own but at the end of the day, if what you want is to beat up bad guys to funky tunes you'll have fun with DDR. I think this game's reception is mixed mostly because it seems to collect every bad look a cult series reboot can have: radical artstyle change,…

unlabelledView post →Underrated Gem – Double Dragon Revive Deserves More Love I went into Double Dragon Revive not expecting much, especially given the mixed reception—but honestly, I came away really impressed. This game is criminally underrated. At its core, it captures that classic Double Dragon feel: straightforward, satisfying beat-’em-up combat with a modern touch. The controls feel tight, the hits have weight, and there’s something genuinely fun about chaining combos and clearing out waves of enemies the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply put, it's not worth the price tag. Controls and hitboxes are a bit clunky, sometimes there are too many enemies that you lose track of where your character is. Character aiming for opponent isn't the best either.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is not really a Double Dragon game, it's a sloppy representation, quickly made with no passion in order to satisfy a deadline. It is not true to the Double Dragon legacy. The fighting is just random and not accurate to Double Dragon. The music is a cheap, unspirited remake with graphics of over 10 years ago. It's just a cheap fighting game with the double dragon logo and cheap hints of familiar music. This is an insult to dedicated fans of Double Dragon. It gets boring to play in no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mediocre Game. Not much variety as Street of Rage 4
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now, while this game ticks all the boxes for a fun beat um there's some serious bs going on as well. Now the story is god awful, but I don't mind it. It fits the genre. But... The heavy reuse of art is so poor in a game of this price. Having pretty much the same picture through a whole scene is just lazy. Even lazier when the game doesnt recognize which character you play as. Play as Marian? You still go to rescue Marian. Was it too much to ask for 30 seconds of audio recording and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is one of the worst beat'em ups I've seen in years. Gameplay is just pure garbage. It gets even worse if you play in coop. If you play with japanese dub, you will notice that Billy and Jimmy are voiced by Kazuyuki Okitsu (Jonathan Joestar) and Takehito Koyasu (Dio Brando) from Jojo's bizarre adventure. That's funny. And that's probably the only good thing this game has.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a big Double Dragon fan and have been since i was a child. DD1 and Super DD practically raised young gamer me. I had high hopes for this game, and was sadly severely disappointed by this experience. The game is just... mediocre at best, boring at worst. This game needs more time to cook. They have the groundwork to make something truly worthy of its price tag, but it just stops short of being an acceptable entry to the franchise, especially with how modern-day beat 'em ups are in comparison…

unlabelledView post →Dear Arc Sys Works, I played DD in the arcades in the 80s and this is a true evolution of the franchise. It plays like Virtua Fighter meets Double Dragon, in fact Billy has Sarah Bryant's exact punch, jump knee combo. This game is a dream come true. I used to read negative reviews and feel bad for liking it anyway, but now I get that gamers can be clueless and always want the exact same games over and over. Glad this isn't the same old Double Dragon. I want lots more DLC m'kay?!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had enough issues that after two levels I refunded it. I'm not gonna pay full price for this, even with the Super Dodgeball gift. You can use d pad to move in a classic sorta way, but that's not very good cuz attacking in directions is how you engage with some of the stage gimmicks. But really, the actual combat is just... boring. You've got a few hit combo, a "get away from me" attack, a back attack, and some gimmicky stuff that feels like it was lifted from the Ninja Gaiden arcade. You…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there's no need to really mince words : visually, the game could have used something more. i don't think it needs to look *better*, but more colors would be very welcome. with that said, the real concern is the gameplay. and i think it's quite fun? a lot of beat em ups, even the better ones, usually can be summarized as "mash buttons". this game offers a lot of interactivity with the environment and items. it allows a lot more freestyling in how you beat up enemies, who WILL fight back and…

unlabelledView post →Double Dragon Revive is a reboot of the Double Dragon series, which originated in 1987 with the original arcade game developed by Technos. Double Dragon, alongside the original Renegade/Kunio-kun game, pioneered the beat-'em-up genre, which in turn led to the creation of many beloved games. Double Dragon is a significant series in gaming history, which is a shame given how the series suffered after the rights were sold to Million following Technos' bankruptcy. However, Arc System Works (the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're trying to beat them up. This is one of those. I like it. It's feels Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Deka like. It's somewhat of a shame that the era of the 8 way beatemup got started and ended so quickly. Someone will make the God Hand of them eventually. This one ain't it, but it's NOWHERE near as bad as people make it seem. I haven't delved TOO far into the mechanics, but I'll leave some notes here of what I noticed -- Note this is me playing almost all of the story mode with Jimmy so…

Second of all, everyone crying about balancing and whatnot, it's a skill issue. I was able to shred through the first stage in no time, but still found the bosses slightly challenging. It's legit a skill issue, nothing more. Play more beat-em-ups and get good. Story is dope too, it's basically Double Dragon meets Fist Of The North Star. I'm pleased beyond…

Honestly, this is no goty material and it may not be the game for you if you're looking for "top premium AAAA experience". However, if you're just looking for some beat em up action and don't mind some rough edges here and there, It is, in fact a good game. Pros: - Satisfying combat system with a lot of environmental…

unlabelledView post →So I just finished this one and boy was I suprised! Usually a 2.5D brawler doesnt take much to do kinda right but somehow the devs botched that here. The game looks pretty and has a nice soundtrack but it almost feels like they kinda put to much effort into that instead of focusing more on the gameplay. Same could be said about the story/ cutscenes. There is WAAAAAAAY to much effort put into these because these cutscenes are sooooo long for a game like that and the story itself is kinda cheesy…
