positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played Dominions since 4, the 'series' has increased in price with each game since 3. Each steam listing isn't for an 'actual' sequel to the last. You're actually paying to continue updating the game. I don't think I've never come across a developer where in order to continue playing an updated version of a game you have to pay more than full price, AFTER you've already paid. it's genuinely baffling. On the bright side, though, Dominions 4, 5 and 6 have had a max cumulative player count…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i studied more for this game than i did for college and it was really worth because now i can micromanage my astral communion mages to pointbuff my troops and snipe the enemy mages as the skeleton chaff keeps them occupied
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy this game. Wonder why there's Dominions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, all released close to each other? The developer releases one update calls in Dominions 6 and charges $40 for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is good, but it's definitely not for everyone. The thumbs down is because I wanted to like this game more than I did. Some of the hours are just leaving the game online and reading a ton online. The good; 1) I love it when a game offers more than one character to play as. In a strategic warfare game like this, I like that it offers a big choice of nations to choose from with different units. Each nation has its lore entry and the units have some descriptions to get you into the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"re-release" the game with a couple of new features for full price yeah, no. bought dom5 because I wanted to support the devs but they're obviously pretty dubious with their pricing practices don't buy dom6
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It seems to have held my attention...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ive bought Dominions 3,4 and 5 now. I still dont know how to play any of them. I'll wait till Dominions 7 comes out, then buy Dominions 6.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dominions somehow merges the horror and brutality of large-scale warfare between primordial entities with the mundane drudgery of managing a huge excel spreadsheet.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I still dont know what im doing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very very complex game. Wait for Dom6 though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a deep game 1000 hours in and still learning the game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One day ill get a friend to join me
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it is good but it is not much different than Dominions 3 which I also own...in a way you get to buy a patch or a small DLC for a full price of the game and it does not really motivate me to get the newer ones...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great game series, one of a kind. I'm not really a fan of how the authors monetize the game by releasing a new numbered part, instead of upgrading the previous one. That makes a lot of community effort obsolete, mainly maps and conversion mods. On the other hand, it gives them a freedom to change major mechanics without breaking compatibility. It's better than DLC's, I guess... Still saddens me, that the 5th part with its great main menu music will never be "The actual Dominions game"…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoy massive learning curves and games that don’t even try to hold your hand, then you’ll like this. I do, and I’ve had a great time going down the rabbit hole. But it’s certainly not for casual gamers or even the faint of heart. This is a game that rewards long hours of obsession. Skill growth is predicated on devotion. The community is old and experienced and knowledgeable, and they WILL crush you in so many ways if you play multiplayer. But its got a really strong, active, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dominions 5: Warriors of the Faith, developed and published by Illwinter Game Design, is a rare kind of strategy game—unapologetically complex, deeply rooted in mythology, and fiercely committed to systems over spectacle. At a glance, it may seem antiquated with its minimalist graphics and dated UI, but beneath the surface lies one of the deepest and most customizable grand strategy experiences available on PC. It demands patience, strategic foresight, and a willingness to immerse yourself in a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was something about the way the AI moved and fought on the battlefield that caught my interest when watching the trailer. At first glance researching this game you understand that there is a whole lot going on here. This isn't the kind of game that you can just pick up and play, you need to learn the mechanics and there is no tutorial....... This will turn off many people when looking at this game. For some reason I decided to take a chance and spent 4 HOURS watching tutorials without even…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an excellent strategy game. If you can get past the trashy 1990's graphics there is a beast of a 4x fantasy game underneath. Basically it is what Total War: Warhammer 3 wishes it could be. If you want to play multiplayer with randoms you will have to get the latest version (Dominions 6), but there isn't much change at all between Dominions 3/4/5/6 etc, just a cash grab by the developer. There are literally thousands of Spells, Units, Mages, Commanders, Nations to play all with differant…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best strategy game I've ever played with endless depth and room to experiment. Every time you play Dominions you learn something new. The nations are bursting with creativity and if you have any interest in mythology or ancient history you will love how inspiration shines through every description, every unit, every single summon or foot soldier. Dominions is a love letter to not just fantasy, but also culture, folklore, mythology, religion, and more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great for people who want a "game" with Terry Davis vibes, along with the enjoyment of curling up next to a roaring fire with a 388 page book about how to play a video game, since there is no tutorial - that would be for people who are not already a God
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WARNING! There is no tutorial, it´s way too much micromanagement for me. The UI is a big mess. This game is only for fanatics. Maybe it´s much better then CoE but that is just too much for me..sorry.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is, like the rest of the entries into the Dominions series, a really odd game to try to review despite the fact that it's incredibly fun to play. The graphics are ancient, the gameplay is both detailed and hands off, and what actually happens during a combat is sometimes hard to figure out without doing a significant amount of maths on the fly. That having been said, I've spent hundreds of hours on this and its predecessors, and will pick up the most recent game once I've finally…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of the only games you can play offline just get you key from the file ♥♥♥♥ steam for renting your games to you get gog where you buy the game then actually own it no need to login just to play a game you bought please illwinter sell your games on gog you would expand the amount of gamers that play your game and also help get rid of this greedy ass corparation
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game for a very specific type of person and so you will love it or hate it The community is alive an active with games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a labor of love, though it's not for everyone. This game has a LOT of options, and a lot of room for creativity. It's also very dense and even unintuitive in its interface. The huge PDF manual is highly recommended reading, and useful to open in the background to ctrl-f for the meaning of specific terms and mechanics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't like it. Don't feel like elaborating further.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →almost 100 hours in and still don't know what the F i'm doing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dominions 5 at first turned me off by the dated graphics, bad UI, etc. But beyond that is a deep and very satisfying strategy game. What is amazing is that even at full price it is worth it, because these developers have never introduced DLC like other studios. There is already so much content in the game that it surpasses even those with lots of DLC that costs $200 (e.g.,Paradox games). $45 is a fair price for all this content because you don't need endless amounts of DLC to get the full game.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An academic paper in the form of a game. I like the asynchronous turn management, I also like the way battle works with scripting actions.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is among the best of strategy games I have ever played. There is a lot to learn about the game due to there being many mechanics. There are many, many playstyles, even for the same nation due to how the pretender-god and dominions system works. There are also a lot of mods for this game. No map will be the same due to random map generation, but there are some well made custom maps for the game also. There is a ton of lore for the game, and it is fun to read as almost all, if not all, of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No doubt its a great, well made game with a lot of thought put into it. However, it is extremely complex and unless you have the patience and time, i would not recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Six years later and still getting updates. God tier devotion from the developer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I tried to enjoy this game, it is simply Micromanagement hell. I generally like strategy games. I really enjoyed Crusader Kings, Stellaris and so on. This game manages to take simplicity (Very few resources to manage, for example) and create difficulty by making everything need constant attention every moment. It's a bit like trying to turn a hobby into a job, I suppose.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a gem the dominions series is. It's a shame that no screenshot can capture the magic lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At the core it is a very good strategy game, but the problem with it is twofold. The first problem is that the devs are content keeping this game in too much of a sandbox form. They don't seem to realize that most of the fun to be had in this type of game is in optimizing builds given the vast plethora of options. Yet it feels completely pointless to optimize builds when there is absolutely no standardization of maps or modes. So the fact that its too much of a sandbox is an issue. There is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"The most immersive strategy game ever", 2-frame animation sprites, total game size less than 1GB and a vibrant community using forum software from the early 00s XD Start your first game by following the new player's guide (https://illwiki.com/dom5/bcnoexceptions-new-player-guide) and with this I found it more beginner-friendly than some reviews made it out to be. In my first campaign I played a local multiplayer game so that I could control a couple of different nations and see how each one…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dominions V Probably the best of the Worst Genre of games out there that it is whatever the ♥♥♥♥ Genrer this is, The game sets it's self up as a highly complex strategy game set up in a fantastical gritty world that requires some sort of Brain Aids to comprehend, but as a small TLDR of the Story, Jesus Christ is dead, this is after he murdered god and became Super god just like Goku (Kakarot) did, anyways hes dead now and now the people of Tamriel now fight each other for dominance each one of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great 4x where you rule over your worshipers and play sprawling campaigns to take on other gods and their forces.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did you know you can micro your own blood in your veins in real life by pressing a thumb on its opposite wrist then holding and moving the thumb down the forearm? It's like Dominions
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have angered the gods. All the gods. So many hours studying units. So many hours researching spells. So many hours reading guides. So many hours watching tournaments. So many hours planning pretenders. So few hours acutally playing. (in reality it's something like 150 hours, but it's still nothing by Dominions standards) Dishonor. Best toy soldier army unboxing simulator, 10 out of 10. Play the sixth one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game suck balls sometimes but its also the greatest game ever. there's nothing quite like it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely one to pick up on special. It's a deeper game than I think I understand so far, and innovative.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A unique take on the 4X genre, focused just about exclusively on combat. All tactics have to be predetermined in the army setup screen, the battles are resolved automatically between turns without any player input so you have to make sure your soldiers and mages have all of their orders set up just right. The mechanics aren't terribly complex but the sheer amount of options you have is unparalleled. Hundreds of unit types, dozens of factions, a plethora of spells and magic items. It really…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of those games that are always better with a warm cup of coffee. Also good with a cookie! : )
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →literally the most crooked and insane strategy game ive ever played in my life
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting core for a 4X game hampered by a poor UI and tedious micromanagement that becomes extreme at late game. Very Dedicated multiplayer community, there is a monoculture unfortunately so if you do not click with that you will have a bad time. MP Community can be extremely hostile if you do not share their opinions. Game ends up feeling extremely limited in your options because there is so many spells/item choices that have such hyper niche uses they aren't used often. Which causes a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Astral and earth uberalles
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best 4X I've ever played. Hundreds to thousands of spells, units and items, great strategy and tactics, endlessly moddable, engrossing lore/unit descriptions Less complex than it looks at first glance; Deeper than you can imagine
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's got a very messy UI. This often means that you need multiple clicks to get anywhere and the game can be impenatrable without outside sources such as youtube videos or other explanations. Having said that, there is a lot of potential fun here. If it weren't such a god awful experience to interact with the thing it could actually be my all-time go to game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing strategy game. Lots to learn, read, and explore.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Works without problems. Runs very fast. Easy to get into but hard to master. Wide choice of play options.
