A lovingly created caricature of film noir that's mesmerizing in its carefully created look (Dutch angles aplenty) and snappy dialogue. It's heartfelt and fun, the last thing from DOA.

It's been bombarded with bad press from day one, with star Rachel Zegler being the main target of blame for the project imploding before Disney's eyes. But why is it DOA?
unlabelledView post →Fun Fact: The movie was directed by Corey Yuen, a legendary martial arts film director and choreographer (He's known for choreographing a lot of stunt and fights in many Jet Li movies). DOA was sadly the last movie he ever directed.
unlabelledView post →Crank 2 is one of the only American movies that comes close to capturing the insanity of a Story of Ricky or Tetsuo the Iron Man. You know that wild first ten minutes of Miike’s DOA before the film slows waaaayyy down? That’s this entire movie.

unlabelledView post →a gentle reminder that were it not for Tomonuobu Itagaki we would have never been graced with the greatest Daughter/Father casting of all time in Jamie Pressley & Kevin "Big Sexy" Nash as the Armstrongs in DoA
unlabelledView post →On this week’s episode, we talk about DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE (2006), a ridiculously entertaining video game movie from Corey Yuen! It’s like Mortal Kombat mixed with Charlie’s Angels and Torque.
unlabelledView post →That's a hard one to take. I've said for years that DoA is one of my favourite fighting game series, because if you take away the "lol boobs" factor its easy countering system was designed to make you feel like a complete martial arts movie badass. As we say at VGC, God rest him❤️

unlabelledView post →The real question about the JR Ward movie is will it be so ridiculous that it teeters into being a cinematic masterpiece (like DOA, and no, I will not be taking criticism of that movie, it's glorious). I hope so.

unlabelledView post →Tonight's Kicksgiving feature: DOA: Dead or Alive. Ignore the haters, this movie is a camp masterpiece. The villain is the literal embodiment of white appropriation!
unlabelledView post →DOA knows how to make a fighting game movie. Colorful, cartoon physics, dumb as fuck, people kicking each other's asses every six minutes, Jaime Pressley
unlabelledView post →Most fun I had watching a movie in May was the remake of DOA, in which Dennis Quaid has 24 hours to solve his own murder at Murder University. I'd seen it before but not since 1988; remembered who the killer was, which turned out not to be an impediment to enjoying it.

unlabelledView post →Another word of note: if you want a 2D animated film to succeed, SPREAD THE FREAKING WORD. Don’t waste your time dooming it or declaring it DoA release date beforehand. Spread the word. Yes, that’s on studio marketing. But it is also up to YOU to spread the word too.

unlabelledView post →Like, one person dies in this movie called "DOA: Dead or Alive". But, also, one person presumed dead at the beginning comes back, meaning there is a net zero amount of character deaths. The answer to the question posed by the title is, definitively, "Alive."
unlabelledView post →DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE (2006, Pluto, #film) An exquisitely insane game adaptation where ninja babes in teddies do their kung fu moves on beefy oafs. Hallucinogenically puerile, plasticine, kinetic, cartoonish, and *immensely* entertaining. A pure distillate of '00s. h/t: @mxdshipwreck.bsky.social
unlabelledView post →deadline.com/2025/06/elio... Yet, Hollywood trades are trying to force a narrative that original ideas are DOA at the box office and theaters only rely on franchises. Recycling superhero movies and nostalgia bait IP (live action remakes) can’t be a long term permanent focus.

Like I love KOF, Street Fighter and Tekken and don’t think about most of their movies at all if I can avoid it. DOA has a Andy Sidaris movie directed by Corey Yuen so it has a cinematic masterpiece luckily

unlabelledView post →I think the message is integral but you know what makes Zootopia really worth it? Nick and Judy, there buddy cop dynamic they make the movie for me. And in terms of unlikely friendships in animated movies, their top tier. If the sequel screws that up, then it's DOA. But I'm feeling optimistic.
unlabelledView post →my own journey into movie madness would have been DOA or at least severely stunted without the friendship and guidance of @ascalaphid.com especially as pertains to wuxia wizard bullshit and the spiritual importance of having a kung fu guy to be hyped about. this is a list of primo taste

unlabelledView post →My current go-to ‘what should I watch?’ movies are Pride & Prejudice, LotR (series), The Hobbit (series), Barbie, John Carter, MirrorMask, EEAAO, The Shining, Scream (1-3), The Exorcist, any Miyazaki film, The Fall, Summer Wars, Bedknobs & Broomsticks, Shrek, DOA: Dead or Alive: The Movie, & Wicked.
unlabelledView post →26. DOA: Dead or Alive This isn't a "good" movie, but it IS a fun movie. The sound design is so over the top and campy, and the fact that they revel in being a video game adaptation adds to the charm. Fun with friends or while inebriated, but your mileage may vary if you're watching on your own.

unlabelledView post →I see people declaring this DOA because he directed the Buck Wild movie, but we literally only have a minute of footage to go off of here. And as the quoted post said, Donkin’s been with the franchise since the beginning, so I don’t see a point in writing this off completely just yet.
