Disobedience
New York photographer Ronit flies to London after learning about the death of her estranged father. Ronit is returning to the same Orthodox Jewish community that shunned her decades earlier for her childhood attraction to Esti, a female friend. Their fortuitous and happy reunion soon reignites their burning passion as the two women explore the boundaries of faith and sexuality. From TMDB

A bunch of people asked him to stop filming them protesting and doing civil DISobedience, he got upset, so they told him to leave their group, and now he’s gonna film them anyway? Is he like paparazzi for protestors? Meanwhile, impotent white dudes cheer. Ezra klein 2.0.

Kanonene på Navarone, Some Like it Hot, The Magnificent Seven. Vaiert, dette. The Shawshank Redemprion. Én gang. Mer enn nok.

unlabelledView post →If you enjoyed the…ahem…fluid exchange scene in Sinners, might I recommend a little film called Disobedience starring Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz and before you ask…Yes.
unlabelledView post →I mostly agree. The problem is that nonviolent resistance depends a lot on a media that shows it, and shows your oppressors as the brutal ones. That’s why it took a century after On The Duty Of Civil Disobedience was written for it to really be put into practice. Ghandi was helped by film footage
unlabelledView post →Disobedience is a movie (lots of angst!) but there's absolutely no need to watch that to enjoy these fics
unlabelledView post →Currently obsessed with the movie Disobedience for…reasons and recently heard someone (maybe @swordsjew.bsky.social?) say that Rachel McAdams looks like a Guinness poured on top of a shamrock, and I’m fairly certain a more accurate description of a person’s physicality has never existed.

unlabelledView post →On Nobody Wants This: haven’t seen it but it sounds like (as with so much American Jewish stuff) it has not escaped from the shadow of Portnoy. However I’d also say: my worst reviews for Disobedience (book & film) were from Jews. Jewish self-loathing is real both among creators and reviewers.

unlabelledView post →Yes... But by the time she did that gay brit orthodox movie, DISOBEDIENCE? OMG she leveled up!
unlabelledView post →Reminds me of the movie Disobedience, wherein Rachel McAdams wears a sheitel. Is it giving in to the patriarchy, participating in the religion? being comfortable with tradition? Whatever the reason, it's that person's choice.
unlabelledView post →That is a top notch recommendation. Disobedience is a brilliant film, and probably my favourite Rachel McAdams performance. And that's before even mentioning the lesbian kissing.

unlabelledView post →A well-told love story, set against a background of religious orthodoxy > An important point to make from the outset is that Jewish law does not teach that it is forbidden to be a homosexual. On the contrary, Jewish law is concerned not with the source of a person's erotic urges nor with inner feelings, but with acts. The Torah forbids the homosexual act, known as mishkav zakhar, but has nothing to say about homosexuality as a state of being or a personal inclination. > In other words,…

It was actually a pretty decent movie. Really didn't overplay the onscreen sex, which was good, but I do wish there were queer movies which were more middle of the spectrum. Seems like 99% of the time you either get hokey deliberate trash """comedies"""" made on 47c budgets like Yeti: A Love Story, or super serious (and almost always…
