Deathtrap Dungeon
Ian Livingstone's Deathtrap Dungeon is an action-adventure video game developed by Asylum Studios and published by Eidos Interactive for PlayStation and Microsoft Windows in 1998. It is based on the adventure gamebook Deathtrap Dungeon (the sixth in the Fighting Fantasy series) written by Ian Livingstone, and published by Puffin Books in 1984. unlabelledView post →We didn't often get nice things in game cases when it came to PAL PS1 games, but Deathtrap Dungeon is one of the exceptions. Not only do you get a manual but there is also a wonderfully illustrated bestiary for all the foes and beasties in the game. Might be 'The Knackerer' causing the pain xD
unlabelledView post →Deathtrap Dungeon for the PS1 #RandomGameSaturday I got this for a couple of quid at a wonderful retro game shop in Scarborough called "The Game Pad". Was a really fun game until there is a huge difficulty spike and it's expected to die all the time, still worth a look!
unlabelledView post →Red Lotus (Deathtrap Dungeon) No, I don't know why the Imps in the game wear red sneakers.
unlabelledView post →A friend has just reminded us that in 1998 Eidos hired Kelly Brook to promote the Playstation adaptation of Deathtrap Dungeon, and you will have to google that for yourself, didn't help the game from not sucking if I remember correctly but still absolutely peak late 90s UK there
unlabelledView post →While browsing through old 1997 magazines looking for that specific advertisement, I just remembered this also showed up quite (along with the infamous two-page Deathtrap Dungeon ad). Unlike Mace: The Dark Age, I don't recall ever renting this game.
unlabelledView post →Tried Deathtrap Dungeon briefly. It plays like a clunkier Tomb Raider, or Dragon's Lair if it was an actual video game, but I have a soft-spot for these slow methodical platformers where your character is extremely fragile. Based on a series of books by GW founder Ian Livingstone.

This illustration of Fang is stupendous, it has this wonderful clash of cultures and it's the kind of fantasy location I'd love to know more about.
unlabelledView post →Ian Livingstone's Deathtrap Dungeon by Asylum Studios (1998 - Windows 98) is a 3D adventure platform game; an adventurer goes to a maze full of traps, magical hazards and beasts after a devilish baron built it to invoke an ancient satanic village from hell! #gaming #retrogaming youtu.be/tuvB_0LWMMk
unlabelledView post →Oh man! So I got this on a whim because I returned a game I bought (Deathtrap Dungeon) because it didn’t work. I played this game to death! I’d never played anything like it before.

unlabelledView post →Sadly for modern gamebooks is there's a lot of brilliant ones out there, but maybe 60% of the market is nostalgia rather than game driven and just wants stuff that reminds them of playing Deathtrap Dungeon as a kid.
unlabelledView post →WAIT WAIT,(first of all have fun), ok sure it's a very good looking cup and you have a lovely pair of legs, but Deathtrap Dungeon is a book? I didn't know that. I know the (retro now) game, but I had no idea it was a book too! Thanks for the photos & info. www.gog.com/en/game/deat...

unlabelledView post →www.twitch.tv/dr_dubz "I should probably turn this thing off huh?" I ponder to myself as my arm also gets caught in the balls-crushing machine. EVEN MORE Deathtrap Dungeon, live now (weird time for a nasty game)
unlabelledView post →I was watching a retrospective of a really old game yesterday called as "Deathtrap Dungeon" from 90's. Would be cool to have more complex puzzles/traps to disarm.
unlabelledView post →#DendensGamingDen Playstation 2024 purchase 6. Ian Livingstone's Deathtrap Dungeon. To be honest, this game was too tough for me back then, but it always lingered in my mind and I wanted to try this sort-of predecessor of Souls-likes again. (1/3)
unlabelledView post →I knew it was a long shot, but I tried to find a gif of Deathtrap Dungeon so I could just say “This game hates everyone.” but for some reason it was just a bunch of random nothing with gifs of Tecmo’s Deception scattered about… I’m very surprised Tecmo’s Deception even has gifs.
unlabelledView post →Tank controls to me on PSX serve more as a great way to peg whether they released before or after the Dualshock controller came out. Deathtrap Dungeon is a pretty bad PSX game that WOULD be better without tank controls, but it also came out the same year the Dualshock launched in NA

Plus all the superheroines in tight costumes and the anime/fighting game gals with flippy skirts and pantyshots.
unlabelledView post →What's a game that you played, but you feel like you're the ONLY one who's played it? Deathtrap Dungeon was a game I never managed to beat. Hell, I didn't even make it to the 3rd level. It was a mix of Tomb Raider and Dark Souls. And it was difficult as fuck 💀
unlabelledView post →As someone who loved the game book, Deathtrap Dungeon is one of the most disappointing video games ever.
unlabelledView post →Somebody did this bad review on Deathtrap Dungeon On youtube just now and I'm really needing to hold myself back from blasting it for how bad it is in the comments lol. Like come on why you gotta be such a bitch about a game? It was never that famous, but it was a good game, just Very fucking hard👻
unlabelledView post →Time for us to go back to the Deathtrap Dungeon and see how far we can get. We'll also be doing Ani-Mondays for now on, so before we do our game, we'll watch some OVAs. This is the last week of the Tip a Thon, so here's our chance to finish strong.

unlabelledView post →31 Days of Literature - Video Game Edition Day 22 Ian Livingstone’s Deathtrap Dungeon on PS1 (1998) Based on the famous 1984 gamebook by Ian Livingstone, this is a Tomb Raider style 3D game that sees you fighting through a dungeon, but an erratic camera kills any enjoyment that could be found.
unlabelledView post →If I may make a request for a game to be covered in an episode, I'd be interested in hearing the backstory to the Asylum/Eidos version of "Deathtrap Dungeon"--that being an adaptation from a celebrated gamebook series of the 80s/90s.

unlabelledView post →Hmm. I think the *design intent* is Action Ninja. It fits the themes of the game a lot better I think. But like with Deathtrap Dungeon it's not a perfect fit. It's an Action Ninja with a jester's hat.
unlabelledView post →Looking at release dates, it was probably either Quest for Glory V or Deathtrap Dungeon--both released in 1998, it seems. (I thought of four possible candidate games, but didn't remember which was first. Hence checking release dates! ^^; ) (Cont.)

unlabelledView post →#IslandOfTheLizardKing once again has stellar illustrations. Gameplay-wise, it sets itself apart far from the previous book, #DeathtrapDungeon. Essentially any path can be taken to finally confront the evil king. Some paths just make this encounter easier than others. #FightingFantasy #IanLivingstone #Gamebook
unlabelledView post →Yup, here is the dinosaur. Excuse me, the "Pit Fiend". It's not even the only skill 12 opponent in the book, there is also a Bloodbeast. A Manticore and a Ninja at skill 11. A Barbarian and a Cave Troll at skill 10. I'm seriously wondering how this book should be beatable without cheating. I doubt there is any realistic chance for characters below skill 11. #DeathtrapDungeon #FightingFantasy #Gamebooks #IanLivingstone
unlabelledView post →Been playing #DeathtrapDungeon for some. Phew, it is every bit as tough as I remember it. I know there is a skill 12 dinosaur waiting somewhere, but have not reached it nearly. I love the aspect of finding signs of other contestants. Gives a great illusion of making actually informed decisions. #FightingFantasy #IanLivingstone #Gamebook
