Many instances of “I saw this because other people were going & I didn’t have a choice” that turned out to be different than I hoped or just unmemorable. unlabelledView post →Watched the ad and this seems like "What if we mashed up Wonder Boys and Dan in Real Life and stretched it to 5 hours?" Maybe it's just the editing, but a lot of shows that have ads that feel like movie trailers turn out to be a movie's worth of story padded multi-episode length.
unlabelledView post →I saw this movie once and did not like it. But it did lead to Sean O’Neal of the AV Club to keep pitching more and more absurd ideas for “Dan in Real Life 2: Back 2 Da Life” whenever he wrote a news story that mentioned Steve Carell. That almost made the movie worth it.

unlabelledView post →Will never understand the poster for Dan in Real Life, not sure I want to look up how this movie was marketed. I can't really afford to spring for a Patron membership on Letterboxd but I'm tempted for custom movie posters. Also I did not know La La Land was a sad movie. JFC, I was not prepared.

unlabelledView post →They could’ve changed, like, 3-5 lines in the script and Dan In Real Life would be an amazing Thanksgiving movie. We don’t have enough of those. I’m re-watching it now, it’s really easy to pretend that it takes place at Thanksgiving.

unlabelledView post →It only took me like 18 years to finally watch the movie that I know through its oddly memorable poster, but it turns out that Dan in Real Life is pretty good. It has a low-key energy that sits in this in-between line of serious and smaltzy, so it's funny and romantic without being heavy or silly.
