Idk what's going on with the PR strategy for this game but I have talked to multiple games press people who have never heard of it and it's QUITE GOOD!! Way more of a crowd pleaser than something like Cronos and yet is getting 1/100th the promotion. And it's less than $20?????

Every Bullet Matters Cronos doesn't do anything revolutionary or particularly new. You can clearly see Dead Space, Resident Evil and Silent Hill in its DNA. But somehow it still feels different enough to stand on its own. Gameplay The best part of the game is easily its gameplay loop. This might be the only action survival horror game where I actually had to think before every fight. Every bullet matters, every healing item matters, and using the environment is often the smartest way to deal…

I really wanted to like this game as a new survival horror IP on the block, but it irritated me more often than not. The setting and story are *aggressively* generic, with bog-standard science-fiction proper nouns everywhere. The Traveler. The Awakening. The Essence. The Terminal. The Orphans. The Talos Protocol. The Lazarus Protocol. The Collective. The Warden. The Pathfinder. It goes on and on, and it never amounts to anything very compelling. Without going into spoilers, the game's setting…

Why do game devs keep making horrible Linux Ports?. I'm asking because I just bought Cronos: The New Dawn on Steam because it has a native Linux port. To be fair, I would have bought it at some point anyway but I got excited when I saw it had a Linux port. The game is missing features that the Windows version has, It runs horribly at any setting other than very low. I think they only bothered testing for the SteamDeck. But if that's the case, why does it support FSR 4.0? To be fair, the Windows…

I feel like I'm being gaslit by all the people positively reviewing this game. There's like a generation of gamers that think frustratingly difficult game = good. Cronos is not good. Great art direction. Great sound. Pretty graphics. The story became an incredibly obvious allegory for communism less than 2 hours in. A bunch of RED people who merge together and every other note you find in the game is complaining about "commies!". The combat is where this game REALLY falls apart. You need 3…

Cronos: The New Dawn Steam has long needed to make its review system more diverse, because the difference between a positive review for Chronos and pure enthusiasm for Silent Hill 2 is massive. In fact, it’s not enough anymore for Steam to just add a “mixed” or “yellow” review type; what’s really needed is a 5, 10, or even 100-point rating scale. It’s a shame they’re not in a hurry to implement something like that. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3594742848 Chronos is a…

I hated this experience. Ultimately it's Dead Space but with the same enemy count, 20% of the resources and inventory space, and constantly sends you back to the safe room stash to jostle your inventory around. Here are some highlights: In a game of scarce resources: introducing an enemy that actively dodges if it senses the crosshairs on it is diabolical. 25% of my play time was dedicated to running back to the safe room for free flame rounds. I really like the game. It has a dark tone and an oppressive atmosphere that reminds me a lot of Dead Space. Basic resources such as bullets are truly precious because they are so scarce, which reminds me of Resident Evil, but even scarcer. You'll have a hard time deciding what to craft or buy. As the enemies can overwhelm you, it's often preferable to escape from certain situations. Be warned, there aren't many jump scares, but there are a few. The story (from what I've played so far) is…

This was a phenomenal gaming experience. The setting and atmosphere is bleak and disturbing. Gameplay is fun and reminded me of Dead Space. What makes this game special is its difficulty. It will challenge you in all the right ways. You will be forced to manage ammo and face hordes of evil creatures. Remember: every bullet counts. The progression is also fantastic. You're gradually upgrading your suit and weapons and while you are getting stronger, the game also ramps up its difficulty, so…

Being a big Dead Space fan, this game scratches that itch super hard. But for me personally and my rig, the performance ruins everything. I wanted to love this game. But for me the negatives overshadow the positives: As many people pointed out it's a very obvious mix of Dead Space and Resident Evil 2/4. That's fine for me. But Cronos is neither of these things, nor does it manage to come fully into it's own. For me that has to do with the general lack of a core idea of what the game and the story wants to be. There is time traveling/looping of agents of a mysterious organisation that sends individual back in time to do their…

I’ve always had a complicated relationship with Bloober Team games. Usually, I notice the quality of their form, interesting visual design, strong art direction and good presentation. But when it comes to the substance, things get more complicated. Perhaps I have the fewest complaints about Observer, but this game was released eight years ago. The strongest element is atmosphere. The ruined vision of communist-era Poland twisted by “The Change” is consistently unsettling. Bloober’s environmental artists deliver decayed apartment blocks, industrial complexes, and impossible time-fractured spaces that feel oppressive without relying exclusively on jump scares. Lighting, sound design, and environmental storytelling carry enormous weight here. Combat is more divisive. The headline mechanic — enemies merging with corpses to evolve into…

I rarely feel the compulsion to write reviews, but I just finished this game and came straight here to write one. Cronos: The New Dawn is the kind of game that makes you fall in love with games as a narrative story telling device. It lets you live in a horrifying, distorted world that is both in the past, present and future. In essence, it's a pretty standard survival horror game. First 1/3 of this game was great, as you approach the 3/4 mark of the game you are met by the same kind of enemy again and again and again and again. What makes it worse is that they just make waves of those same enemies appear again and again. Again, the story was great for the first 1/3 but then it went in a completely different direction and ended on a low. I wouldn't pay full price for this game, if you are thinking of picking it up I would definitely wait for a sale.

Cronos initially seems a lot like Dead Space, and that’s clearly one of its inspirations. But the moment you actually play it, it feels a lot more like Dead Space didn’t just take inspiration from RE4, but also mixed it with the classic Resident Evil formula. It feels like a blend between RE1 and RE4 more than the ladder. The director describes the gameplay and combat as “more Resident Evil and less Silent Hill,” which fits perfectly with how I feel about this game. The entire gameplay loop is…

Cronos: The New Dawn Merge and purge Video games often wrestle with the delicate balance between spectacle and substance. This rings even more true when it comes to survival horror. Dip too much to the left and you start to move closer towards a power fantasy and too much to the right and you move away from horror towards action. Cronos: The New Dawn enters a crowded landscape with a very clear ambition: to fuse survival horror tension with the improvisational creativity of immersive sims. In…

I think people leaving negative reviews expected too much based on OTHER games. This game is challenging your first playthrough, I died 50 times. You have to decide if fighting is worth it most of the time, and it's okay to avoid conflict, nobody is gonna take away your big boy gamer pin. This isn't Resident Evil, and you have to use resources sparingly. And that's what a NG+ is for, you get a much smoother run. If you like the Evil Within, SH 2, Dead Space, you will probably like it.
