60 of 160 · most liked firstI'm reviewing the beta - and I think this might be the first proper review I've ever given, so hopefully I won't miss anything! Saw this game, was instantly reminded of the time i was a child and figured out how lobotomies worked in Creatures 2, impulse purchased immediately. Game overcame my severe adhd and my first time playing it lasted for several hours, fascinated and able to focus on it even though I don't have anything more than a layman's education in genetics/genome sequencing/etc.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game. I have two degrees in biology and I work with animals in behavior. I've always loved life simulation games, both for their entertainment value and for their ability to help us predict health and behaviors in animals and plants. A lot of games fell super short, either because they were made more layman friendly and were basically dumbed down, or because they were too early to have the tech to really do it right. Creatura comes as close as I have ever seen to being as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I could write more, but in short I feel cheated. What I expected: an evolution sandbox What I got: a complicated game of cryptogram OR a terrarium sandbox. If you WANT a terrarium sim, this is fine and you can make pretty little landscapes. That's just not what I was looking for. "From single cell organisms to complex ecosystems. Evolve every part of your own unique aquarium / terrarium by applying scientifically accurate principles of natural and artificial selection" 1. ***There is no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning: This game is very early alpha! My review and opinions may chage as the game is updated. Personally I LOVE the concept. As someone who played the Creatures series (another genetics based life sim) I am super excited to see where this goes! The execution right now is a little rough. The camera felt wonky to me with the side to side buttons not always taking you where you think you should be going. Also, I don't know if this was just me or if it haven't been implimentd yet, but the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do not understand why this game is running my GPU at 100% the entire time I play, bringing up my temperatures up to 60c on my GPU. Nothing bad is going to happen at those temps, but jeez. This game is less than a gig. Optimization is terrible.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cute game, however it clearly has a long way to go before it's fully playable. I was unable to complete the tutorial because multiple times it would ask me to click on something and what I needed to click on wasn't indicated clearly enough. For instance, it asked me to apply a mutagen to a seed, but didn't highlight or otherwise indicate the seed so I didn't know what I was looking for. Later it asked me to click a button to register a new species, but there was no such button anywhere…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/600480/Megaquarium/] Megaquarium , but it is an aquarium tycoon sim with polygon-like graphics that leave a lot to be desired visually. I also tried similar games in this niche category like [url= https://store.steampowered.com/app/809730/FISHERY/] FISHERY and [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/549040/Biotope/] Biotope (both in early access) while keeping my eye on [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/1430760/Aquarist/] Aquarist and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very detailed virtual evolution vivarium simulator! Sandbox meets laboratory! Labcoat: ON! Creatura is a vivarium (liferoom, can be both an aquarium and a terrarium) simulator, in which you try to evolve basic specimens. You start with algae, which spawns Flatworms. From these you evolve every other plant or animal. Plants Plants can evolve naturally, via chemicals or via DNA manipulation. They can evolve many different aspects, such as size, branches, leaves, flowers, fruit, colour, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The tutorials spend more time with the writers cracking jokes on each other than any actual teaching of basic mechanics. Once completed and during the first scenario, the game crashed repeatedly. Really not worth the money I spent on it. I had really high hopes for this title, it looked amazing but the playability is simply not there.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was at first unsure what to rate this game, but given how quickly and fiercely it overheated my nice gaming PC, it's now a solid no, cannot recommend. Pros: Fascinating concept. Truly neat seeing everything evolve. Would have thoroughly enjoyed digging into it more, except for the cons getting in the way. Cons: Very clunky controls. Tutorial had terrible, terrible dialog with relentlessly unfunny jokes rather than any focus on being a tutorial. Frustrating trying to find a balance between…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As an entomology and biology student with a fascination in evolution and invertebrate husbandry, I bought this game the second I discovered it and I was not disappointed. For an indie game, Creatura introduces concepts I have never seen before to the criminally underdeveloped evolution sim genre and certainly delivers on them. I watched as, just as in reality, every little change in my environments prompted new and exciting adaptations in plants and animals. Flatworms grew legs and antennae,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is absolutely riddled with game breaking bugs. If they were fixed, it would make the game a hell of a lot better than it currently is. In the state it's currently in, avoid buying it like the plague.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Devs need to hire someone to make the tutorials more user friendly. They barely explain anything, and the dialogue of the two "scientist" characters doesn't read like a human wrote it. I don't know if it's because they used AI or English isn't their first language, but it doesn't flow naturally at all. I'm just glad I got it for a dollar.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only game game I have found that lets me discover and edit specific genes, as well as evolve. 20/10

unlabelledView post →Unfortunately pretty unsatisfying game. Doesn't seem like the developer really took it seriously and rushed through it. Controls are rough, visuals are dull, game play is tedious....I'm even bored trying to write a thorough review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would love to give a good review but I can't get the past the mutagen tutorial. I followed directions, took the cutting, grew the cutting, poured on the stuff, then the plant vanished. It keeps telling me to pour the mutagen on a seed, but there is no seed. There is a stick/stem but it is not doing anything, just keeps telling me to put it on the seed instead. An earlier tutorial got stuck on "wait" for a few minutes and I had to quit and go back in. If I can figure out the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls are VERY clunky and it got so many small bugs that I couldn't even continue the tutorial.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Creatura (Update: It's $14.99 right now, full price - 22 Aug 2025. I have 200 hours in the game/simulator? I like to just play around with it randomly, after I have added notes to the genetics tabs that I have learned something about. There's also cheats, if I remember right. I just don't use them. I like watching the creatures play ball. Albeit I'm on a newer system now than I was on when I began this review. I recommend this one on sale as it is today. I'm not trying to be mean when I say…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kept it hoping it would add more but it never really did.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far, even though it's in alpha testing, it's an interesting game. The developer takes an active interest in it, and responds promptly to bug reports, along with pinpointing (most of the time) exactly where the problem is...or at least the general area, narrowing down what will come next. I encourage other people to playtest it as well - the music is there, if somewhat muted, and it fits the environment of the vivarium the player creates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good idea, but just generally a pretty tedious game. I play mainly on highest speed because I have ADHD and I can't sit still with nothing to do for longer than a few minutes (which is in part why I play waaayy too much video games) but that results in me having to stay 100% focused (which I obviously also have issues with) in case a cutting pops up somewhere and I have 0.82 seconds to take a cutting before it disappears. I guess this game is more fun if you're better at pacing yourself and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I know bugs can be expected with Early Access, but I had three crashes in less than 5 minutes of actual place. Moving the camera is very difficult to see things from the angle desired. Further more, the text/directions are very small font, white on a pale background and pretty much impossible to read. I would like to see this game improved so its playable, but right now, I can't keep it running long enough to get any enjoyment from it, or provide feedback for the developers any more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game sounds exactly like something I would like to play. Unfortunately I have yet to be able to progress beyond the menu screen as none of the buttons seem to register clicks. Seemingly entirely on its own the game did finally open up but I was still unable to click anything or interact in any way. I did initially request a refund but I really do want to play the game so may cancel that request in the hopes that it is fixed and playable for me in the future. Had it been full price when at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel like enjoying this game requires two things: a concrete understanding of genetics, and patience. Lots of patience. As I have neither of these, I found it to be confusing and boring. If you're a big biology nerd, you might love this game, but if you're looking for a cute casual experience, hard pass, definitely. As far as semi-objective critique goes, the graphics do what they need to and the tutorial seems well-constructed; however, the camera controls are quite finicky and the UI, while…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very EA! But is interesting. Wait for a sale and get it, it could be a good purchase.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game which is so perfect for me its literally what i would make if i could. it is still a little rough round the edges but the potential is mind blowing very enjoyable to play even as alpha cannot wait to see where this goes
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried out this game on a whim. I usually play city builder, adventure, and puzzle games, with lots of indie horror sprinkled in... That said I just spent 3 hours playing this game without realizing the time was going by. At first I ignored the tutorial but that was a mistake lol once I got the premise of what I am supposed to do I cannot believe how much fun I am having. Time flew by and now I am upset I have to log and go to bed, but it's 4:30AM and I have to get some sleep! I can't wait to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To the dear game developer: Hello, I really like the content of this game, it's a very good science game of genetic engineering. However, during my actual playthrough, I encountered text dyslexia - I think the in-game text needs to be better translated to facilitate the gaming experience. I'm not posting this comment to point the finger at you guys, but I'm wondering if there are any Chinese translators within the production team that are working on this right now? If not, I think I'd like to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First i wasnt sure if i should buy this game due to the mixed rewievs, but looking back now, i think i made the right choise. I definietly wouldnt recommend it, if youre not interested in the more scientific side of evolution and biology. On the other hand, if youre interested in biology i would definietly recommend, I was impressed by how great it mimics real evolution and how accurate it is from modifying DNA to manipulating populations. Its amazing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Waste of $. The interface is poorly made - so much so that it lags and freezes. The Wiki has nothing on it. I wish there was a way to get a refund!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my hubris, I decided to start with only algae & basic fauna. It has taken me 7 hours of play to figure out how to make what can technically be called 'clover'.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started the game. I was confused at first. I went to the Discord server and the dev is straight up answering all the stupid questions I have- great game, a bit slow but if you like science and plants and stuff like I do it's definitely worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Evil Creatura. From concept art to in game model. #gamedev
unlabelledView post →I think the germ of a good idea is here (pun not intended, but accepted) but the tutorial and interface are just... Painfully unintuitive. I don't think there is anything "wrong" with this game per say or anything fundamentally broken, but it's still VERY rough around the edges and needs some further refining to make it at all compelling, because you can't comfortably intuit the layout, controls or underlying mechanics of the game on your own, and to say the tutorial dialogue is...Obtuse would…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genetics/life/evolution simulators are my cup of tea. I had to spend some time learning how things work (I don't mind + there's a tutorial) but discovering which gene controls which trait can be very rewarding. I think I'm going to have many hours of play time since after 7 h most of the genome is still a mystery to me and I want to keep researching 🌱
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lovely little game that can be as deep as you'd like it. The genetic systems are deep but not overly intricate, with the long-term gameplay focusing on a mastermind like discovery/investigation game of identifying which genes make which changes across different species. It's a relaxing, aesthetically pleasing almost-idle experience that gives you the ability to enjoy how you'd like: Get super involved with individual plant and animal placement and breeding, customizing the layout and looks of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game needs a bit more attention, it's really interesting. Clearly a lot of care was put into the biology side of it, it actually gets technical enough to be interesting without swamping you with info or mechanics. People mentioned the tutorials - they were a little clunky, I had to restart a couple of the lessons, but overall they worked fine, definitely nothing gamebreaking, and it stepped through all of the mechanics well. Cleaning algae off rocks was the only thing that flat out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doing a review on this game is difficult for a number of reasons: 1) It is very much still a work in progress. 2) It has a "play" style that will only appeal to a limited set of people but will appeal to that set. First, it is very much a work in progress. When I purchased it the other day, I couldn't even get through the 3rd tutorial. And I had a fair amount of difficulty getting through the 2nd tutorial without it crashing. When I checked the tutorials this morning, both worked just fine.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this with one of the Aquarist bundles going around, ended up refunding because my PC is slow and rendering in that many objects makes it go REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE because it's closer to "potato" than "high end". I *really* wanted to keep playing, though, this level of genetics is something I've *really* been looking for! Try the demo to make sure you have the horsepower, and best hopes to the devs!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kind of hard to choose a recommend or not for this one. I'd rather have a middle "maybe" option. It's a good concept and seems to offer a lot of freedom in making your tank, but the objectives mode, essentially it's tutorial, is a bit janky. I played it twice just because it kept bugging out by losing track of my objective in the middle of something. The first time, it just got rid of the story guy and I couldn't get it back to continue. The second time, I accidentally dropped a plant piece to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cool concept, but the interface is simply atrocious. The game is incredibly confusing, and a more simplified, solid UI would help tremendously. Also very buggy and crashes a lot, but I guess it's Early Access. I really hope dev considers streamlining and beautifying the UI.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh dear... I was looking for a relaxing game related to nature, and while it did serve the "relaxing" purpose, it was way too confusing imo. The tutorial was almost next to none, because it does not teach you the part about editing DNA, which I came to a realization that this game is actually catering to career biologists in real life only. Or people who closely work with the acids or different science fields that would know them, at the very least. If you are catering to only a niche market,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My original review is below for context, all the issues mentioned in it have been corrected. The developer of this is amazing and responds quickly to issues. This is an odd game, in a good way. It scratches an itch Spore couldn't, even though the gameplay is totally different. I get to tinker with genetics, ruthlessly irradiate creatures until I see traits I want and decorate a tank. This is "For Science!: The Game". I probably have no idea what I'm doing, but that's part of the fun. I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The idea of this game is something I would have loved, I am a big sucker for evolution simulations. However, as with many other evolution simulators (due to their niche amount) it never reached its full potential. If this game reached its full potential it would become a favourite of mine! Unfortunate that it does not seem so. Buy it on sale! It goes ridiculously cheap. (90% off)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is hot garbage it dosent explain anything right if your looking for a better evolution game get the sapling
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun game. I spent hours just trying to isolate a few codon functions. Seriously, it wasn't as boring as it sounds. Downside, some things aren't balanced well, an incredible lack of information/support/tutorials/codex etc. You'll literally have to look up fan youtubes to do a lot things. Almost impossible to figure out yourself except through dumb luck. The camera is weird too. For some reason closer things don't focus. It does nothing for the "ambiance" or whatever reason its…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game should cost $3 at the maximum. Everything about it feels exceptionally cheap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game early on when there was just some plants, worms, and fish. Even then I enjoyed it very much as a relaxing game to play, and I really got into the DNA editing aspect of the game. (I made a short video guide to help others *shameless plug*) Since then, the developer has been very quick to fix bugs, and has added many new features. The best part about the developer is how reachable they are through their discord channel. They have been very helpful, and are always quick to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you get this thing on sale, it's a cute little virtual aquarium with a surprising amount of depth to the vegetation you can grow (at least, visually). The developer seems to care about this project and it's gotten consistent updates over time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →kind of boring honestly, and probably abandoned now that they are working on other simulator games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks like an interesting concept, but poorly executed basic features demand fully online gameplay and only capable of doing autosave, instead of actually saving the game settings after you change them.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this turned into a eugenics simulator much quicker than im willing to admit
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Life sim games are experiencing a renaissance recently! First Wobbledogs, then Ecosystem, and now this?? Life is good! This game has an insane amount of depth put in to it, and I never thought that genetic engineering could be gamified so elegantly, but here we are :D If you're someone who enjoyed the more in-depth genetics side of games like the Creatures trilogy of the past, be sure to check this one out. My only peeves so far is the music is kind of repetitive and a bit too up beat for a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a fantastic sandbox! I lost track of time playing it lol. My only complaint is that maybe some more tooltips in the UI, some icons are a little hard to understand, like what each filter type is and whatnot. But I 100% recommend this. <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love evolution and this ticks all the right boxes. Love to see more games like this that advance toward land. There was a great old game from the early Windows 95 era that was just incredible. You had an entire world of evoltion going on with weather and global warming or cooling affection species. The game was simply called Evolution. I still play it today. Great tool if your interested in seeing the effects of mass die offs due to global weather changes or just one species over dominating…
