60 of 177 · most liked first10000 YEAR OLD ENGINE BUT YOU GOTTA PAY $60 FOR IT BECAUSE NONE ELSE WILL MAKE GAMES LIKE THIS
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Insanely outdated. The games UI only has 4 settings, which are either wildly low resolutions that games haven't ran on in decades, or your native resolution which makes the in game menu impossibly small. There's no escape button pause menu, which I hate. The graphics are from a bygone age despite the game being from the last 5 years. Oh yeah and if you wanna adjust your resolution you have to restart the entire game like games didn't figure out a solution that problem 15 years ago. The settings…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like all the rest of the Combat series of games, this is a great addition to the series. HOWEVER, it's time to update the engine guys, it runs like ass and while, we pretty much all enjoy the game, there's no excuse for producing 9 out of 10 games on (What the development team calls new) an Engine that has the same piss poor performance with ZERO updates... Great series, horrendous business practices.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is more of a review of the Combat Mission series as a whole, but although I've enjoyed playing the Combat Mission series (not just this specific title) I cannot justify buying more games and content. The series is all but abandoned with the only update in 3 years being an tournament feature after what appeared to be a monumental struggle just to bring it to Steam. No improvements to visuals have been made, and what hammered this home was in a recent room tidy I found my boxed retail…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly scummy pricing driven by the fact that they know they’re the only show in town.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i have no idea whats going on, 11/10 edit: after 68 hours i beat task force thunder in a total victory; now i can confidently say this game fulfills my incredible autism
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great small to medium sized combat sim with laughably outdated graphics and unresponsive UI, and ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS pricing. I wonder if there is a parallel universe where the developers are not such lazy and greedy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and actually update the game to something like the Unreal Engine?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →overall nice, but it's ridiculously overpriced and the engine desperately need an overhaul.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →im gonna play it sure but im not enjoying it, the price tag is EVIL and for the gameplay I mean this looks like the game was made in the year it takes place in and its still subpar the moment someone else does this im hopping
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →idk what they're smoking but this near 20 year old game isn't worth 60 dollars, the key resellers have given it a much fairer price of 10-15 dollars, its crazy that this game is so old that it's game design predates the widespread use of MRAPs by the US Army, so they're not in the game, LOL, UI is also made for 4:3 monitors and the UI does not scale, so text is literally unreadable at 4k since the UI seems to have been made for 768x768 res or maybe even lower. Its a good game, just comically…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its ABSURDLY over-priced. The second another group takes this very straight-forward concept & runs with it, I'm abandoning CM; they're arrogant & greedy... I'm not fans of the people there, but I get the strong sense they could care less. They kind of have some us by the "Short hairs", extortion-wise, as currently NO ONE makes games like this (Close Combat is a distant 20-year second), PROS - 75% of the game works as advertised. Its got good replay-ability & adequate, not great AI. Combat is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredible concept bogged down by luddite devs. I love this game series, it is unique and there is nothing quite like it on the market. Unfortunately, from what I could gather, it is being developped by a handfull of oldschool devs who either refuse or lack the sense to bring this series into the modern age. The gameplay is hard to describe if not experienced for yourself, and boy should you experience it before paying 60 (!!) bucks for it. The price tag is inexcusable, especially if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I blew up a civilian hospital.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is actually fun, but the technical issues make it incredibly hard to enjoy. For a game that costs $60, it is asking way too much for something running on an infrastructure that is more than two decades old. The engine is just completely unoptimized, old, and clunky. The camera system is absolutely ♥♥♥♥, and trying to move around feels incredibly weird. It is not natural at all- it feels like you are trying to control some remote Mars rover where every single turn and movement is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if it were made on a new engine, with new graphics, with better player introduction, an improved unit command ability with better keybinds, and with a genre appropriate price, this game would probably be alot more popular. I find it hard to believe this game was actually released in 20 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 20 like this, looks and feels like it was made during the actual start of the war on terror. Theres a reason this game has zero popularity (and zero players) and coverage on YT aside from a single…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NO, Combat Mission is not worth $80. There is no universe in which this ancient piece of software that is held together with scotch tape and prayers is worth a AAA premium price. MAYBE $15 to $30 at most. The price isn't even the worst of it though..... If you plan on playing Multiplayer, I can't in good faith recommend Combat Mission (any game in the series) given how TCP/IP Multiplayer is STILL undermined by game breaking bugs (chiefly weapons teams losing their deployables) that have been…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth the £50, barely even worth the £10 on CDkeys, awful UI, awful controls. You could tell me this game was released in 2010 and I'd believe you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →goodbye assad lmaooo
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, but needs updating. Playing in 1280x960 resolution is not it. You can try some of the options in the discussion boards to run the game in your desktop resolution (i.e. 4k for me). But the graphics of the UI are not optimized and unreadable in 4k rez. Over priced for this reason. Like others have said, it's like playing a 20 year old game (i.e. Falcon 4.0, etc.) graphics-wise. Combat sim is good though, just wish someone would update this game to 4k UI resolutions and reduce the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Woke up at 5 for no reason, decided to take Combat Mission: Shock Force 2 for a spin
unlabelledView post →this game is old. very old. but its really fun. its like if arma 3 was turned in to an r.t.s game. this game is not for everyone. its based off real combat. you cant just rush in your units. unless you want them all to go home in body bags. the combat is slow and brutal at times. you really need to take your time. urban war is hard. you have to go slow and fight street by street one building and house at a time. not worth the full price but 60% off its worth it. there is really no combat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible game with an elitist fanbase. They ban people with constructive criticism of which there cannot be enough of from their forums. Antiquated play by email multiplayer with a jank real-time option in which all the flaws of this game only get exponentially worse. Units will have their weapons deleted. Deploy-able weapons systems will be unable to deploy ~70% of the time. The worst mechanic of this game is the line of sight. Units will not see a tank 100 meters in front of them yet see…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the military industrial complex
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the concept of combat mission games is so good, but the execution is so poor and its a shame there's no proper competitor for modern tactical wargames. the developers are exceedingly incompetent and rarely (if ever) update their games to address a long list of bugs and longstanding issues, this game has literally never received any updates since its release on steam, and is still filled with bugs since before its steam launch (Like the Dutch Gill ATGM rarely ever hits anything and always…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you have a AMD graphics card, these titles will not work on your system unless you roll back.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe the price would've been worth it last decade, but i wouldn't buy this for above $25
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wish Steam gave the option for a mixed review. Honestly, there is fun to be had; but that is overshadowed by weird bugs and lack of optimization. Some issues seem like the developers forgot or didn’t think through how their systems work; In a quick battle my buddy had DLCs activated that I didn’t have, instead of an error message saying there was incompatible versions, we were able to pick units and place them meticulously for the fight... Crashed every time until my friend realized he was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat Mission is a series I discovered on accident around 2020. I stumbled across UsuallyHapless, SirGunsalot and DoubleVision on youtube. I was immediately awestruck with their cinematic after action reports on their multiplayer battles. The engine is not the prettiest, but she chug along nonetheless. Here's my review of CMSF2: Price (7/10): Very expensive when you factor in all the expansions. Modern gaming usually finds us at 60 USD for brand new games, so that's usually the highest we…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A modern version of this game would be great but this game is unique and provides a true tactical experience like no other
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got and played Shock Force 1 back in 09 which this game is entirely a retexture of and while I played CM obsessively for years the games and the engine they're built on have aged rapidly. The good and the bad i'll be highlighting will largely be endemic to the entirety of CMx2 engine games from Battle for Normandy to Black Sea. The gist of it is the engine these games are built on is very bad and uses everything from cheating to jerry rigging to construct a vaguely functional tactical…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hyper realistic, purchased at the recommendation of the Canadian Army Command and Staff College to get some wargaming experience, and this has been a really good challenge. The realism comes from the lethality caused by improper tactics, rushing your approaches, not using recce forces sufficiently. It rewards proper doctrinal strategy. Highly recommend for any army officers and strategy game fanatics looking for a real challenge
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →$60 for the same game over and over is just ridiculous.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd say it's a mixed review. I really like the framework, and all the movement/combat options are there; it's just that the UI and controls are so unbelievably clunky. Also, why can my troops see people but I can't? 5/10. Reworked UI and controls would easily make this a 10/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battlefront games are the best tactical combat simulators on the market.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wayyyy overpriced. you only get two campaigns without dlc and each dlc is 15$ on top of the 60$ price point. It is a very cool game but no reason it should cost so much to be playable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mean, I don't think that Steam sells any physical media either. Granted, Steam isn't the only place to buy PC games, but I went looking in an earlier thread that was talking about the PS5 physical disc shutdown. I could think of one retailer, Matrix Games --- they specialize in milsims --- that still sold physical media. It looks like they shut that down last year, had a "last call" for orders for games on physical media.…
unlabelledView post →The game is fun when it works. But sometimes when I'm moving the camra around my game frezes with no way to fix it. So unless that can be fixed I don't think people should buy this
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mine mechanics in this game are seriously broken and frustrating. Trying to mark them for 15 minutes since minefield is leading trough the only way to engage the enemy. I know that is realistic. What is not realistic is that you cant really do anything about it than let your troops drive over it and take unnecessary casualties. You cant tell me that this is american docrin on how to handle a mine threat. If troops would at least go where i tell them it wouldnt be that bad but like this its…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game but not worth the 60 euro price tag
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't know what resolution the devs were using during development, but absolute pain to see or read anything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1. ARMA3, HQ version 2. Outdated graphics. 3. Awkward UI. 4. Enemy ATGMs are just annoying. 5. Less realistic than expected. 6. Micromanagement. 7. Overall, feels like a relic. 8. But I keep playing. Don’t know why. 9. Other strategy games felt like toys. 10. .... Enemy ATGMs are just annoying. -------------------- 1. 10.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game and others very much like it is for a very specific and good community that very much likes these kinds of games. This may not fit your type of playstyle or price range but its entirely up to you to choose if you want to buy it, the community has been very helpful and kind and times and has helped me many times if i was confused, had problems with the game, etc. Once again, this may not be your type of game but I would recommend you buy it since in my opinion this game and other…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Combat Mission games are excellent representations of actual battlefield conditions. There's really nothing else like it (Graviteam Tactics comes close, but...) Unfortunately the client suffers from two main issues: Inexplicably clunky UI controls Horrible performance I will give this a thumbs up because I do like the game, but it really deserves a thumbs down because the whole interface is so bad. I'm not the type of person to try to "bully" a company into making changes with low…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fighting the Syrian Army just isn't fun. Insurgents are even more boring IMO. And fighting the Western alliance as either of those factions? Meh. Better off with Black sea or better yet Normandy. If you want a game with good Ai better to ignore these and go for Graviteam. Oh also performance is quite poor on laptops without some tweaks to the options.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is one of those games i want to like, and it is a great concept, but so horribly executed. First campaign mission is a great example, they tell you there are mines in a bottleneck that you have to cross, but no readily available way to mark and/or destroy them (even though you have 3 engineer squads). Same mission I had a stryker/APC get "stuck" in the starting zone. it is immobilized and there is no way to tow it out, that unit is gone for the whole campaign. like what person would ever…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"ARMA: Commander" could be another title for this game. If you care about what each guy in every squad of every platoon and company in your battalion is carrying, down the the clips and rounds, this is the game for you. This is not a casual RTS game and actions per minute do not matter here. Nothing is as sad as seeing your pixeltroopers massacred executing what seemed to be a solid plan when a hidden machine gun opens up. Every game in this series is gold, and they all run on the exact same…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a really fun turn-based strategy game without a current parallel. There's a lot of content to be played with mods, many of the campaigns are really fun and intense. It's just not worth the $60 as the game looks and feels super dated. Get it on G2A or on sale and you'll have a lot of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little aged in graphics but I still find I come back to this game more than other realistic RTS. I enjoy the detail of the weapons and the realistic feel of the combat. Once you get an idea on proper tactics the game is an absolute joy. Highly recommend when on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Modern combat circa 2008 or so that largely features the Stryker IFV in a fictional fight with Syria. It is about mechanized infantry and modern weapon systems. Spotting and using distance weapons (artillery, air strikes) is very important, so a big part of each fight is locating and damaging targets from afar. It is a somewhat complicated game which you can learn by reading the manual and watching some Youtube vids. What isn't really spoken is that the game has a pace. You need to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it 50% off and still not worth it. I requested a refund after only 10 minutes. Some of my issues: - For a 2K monitor, if you don't have eagle eyes good luck, your eyes would get tired really fast with how small the UI is, I can't imagine on a 4K. - Ancient engine and because of it performance is abysmal. (I have a good PC) - Camera felt very weird to me. - Many others that are linked to the engine probably.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Deep tactical simulation of a hypothetical war in Syria. Not an RTS, though can be played in real time. If you're serious about your tactical level, company to regiment scale battle simulations, then look no further than this title, and many others by Battlefront.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →that was pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ninja
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is completely broken and unplayable. Will not load your troops and is a such a mess.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first Combat Mission game i've played. It's the kind of game you will either instantly love and become deeply, hopelessly obsessed with, or find supremely tedious and immediately drop. There isn't much of an in between. You can easily spend 60+ hours on the US Army campaign *alone* and by the end of it have a newfound appreciation for the Stryker AFV. The Combat Mission worms burrowed far enough into my brain that I was compelled to assemble & paint a 1/35 scale M1126 Stryker model…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game but get it on sale
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay is awesome, with literally nothing analogous around. UI is outdated, but manageable. Performance is unexpectedly subpar, but is somewhat fixed by community guides.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat Mission: Shock Force 2 is an excellent concept abysmally executed. In the first mission of the main campaign, the only route into your objective is mined. The game provides you with Combat Engineers. The Combat Engineers cannot clear the mines, they can only (very unreliably) mark them. This has no effect on the behaviour of your units and they will still happily drive right over them. The only unmined route is a tiny strip of ground which you must manoeuvre at least a dozen vehicles…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game, unfortunately it doesnt support 4k monitors without a bit of tweaking and work, and on top of that, the UI scaling just makes the UI too small for those ive seen get it into 4k. Wish i could play this but the screen and visuals are just too blurry and hurt my eyes otherwise. Came back for the first time in awhile, still no support for 4k monitors. Yes i know its an old game, but why are we releasing old games/remakes without building them for modern rigs.
