60 of 105 · most liked firstMy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 review of COLD MOUNTAIN boxd.it/grJ8qH Sweeping Civil War epic of survival & perseverance. Incisive anti-war commentary mixes with palpable romantic yearning to create brutal, emotional journey. Gorgeously shot, ambitious, morally complex, with cast that wows! Gut-wrenching. #filmsky 📽

Fine adaptation of Charles Frazier's great novel about Civil War soldier trying to make it home. Yes, Oscar-winner Renee Zellweger goes big...but Law & young Natalie Portman stand out! Rewatch. #filmsky 📽

There is a man, & his hateful minions, who have done everything they can to divide US and bring us to the brink of another sciagura! There is a woman who can stop it! flip.it/InxnmR

unlabelledView post →Cold Mountain is low key one of the best civil war movies. It starts out glorifying the confederates some but deconstructs that as the movie goes on and they become the main villains.
unlabelledView post →Book 2 of 2026 is this classic, Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier—another book I’ve had on my shelves for almost 20 years! I’ve seen the movie, but it’s time to enjoy this incredible prose! 😊 I’m halfway through and can honestly say I’ve never read writing quite like it. Stunning! #BookSky📚
unlabelledView post →Cold Mountain - dir. Anthony Minghella (2003). Excellent cast, beautiful photography and OST, make a basic love story a delight to this sap’s eyes. It won a few awards at the time and is on Prime video for the next few days. Might watch The English Patient now

unlabelledView post →I haven't been to the (American) South proper, but maybe it's because I finished reading "Cold Mountain" and am now watching the movie that, when I stepped foot outside into the cool morning, I muttered in some terrible Southern drawl, "Tha' a righ' fall chill ou' 'ere."

unlabelledView post →Unpopular opinion perhaps but COLD MOUNTAIN counts as a horror movie (a period drama set in the civil war featuring women trying to SURVIVE) and I will celebrate it as such on my 50th rewatch. Also highly recommend the book it's BEAUTIFUL

A lot was disposed of post prod so we have lovely curtains f/ Cold Mountain & side chests from a Navy movie & all our kids & nibs got to ride the Keanu Reeves memorial bike til it finally bit the dust.
unlabelledView post →Watched Cold Mountain last Night. Questionable accents aside, I thought it was a decent film with a pretty much all-star cast. But why did nobody tell me it would break my little heart
unlabelledView post →1: “Cold Mountain,” Civil War soldier Jude Law deserts the army to journey back to Nicole Kidman, the girl he left behind. A movie centered on that would have been great, but the film (based on an unread book, so maybe this was unavoidable) gets bogged down with too many subplots along the way

unlabelledView post →On some level, it's tough to tell a morally complex story well in a 3-hour movie. But it's possible. Cold Mountain does it pretty well, for instance. There were atrocities. People should understand that. But the British weren't as evil, and the Rebels weren't as virtuous, as the film says.
unlabelledView post →(why does this remind me of "Cold Mountain," the movie, not the book that I never read - whose main thesis seemed to be that slavery was bad because white people didn't learn to take care of themselves?)
unlabelledView post →Bram Stoker's Dracula- Tom Waits is Renfield. He's in Jim Jarmusch's Down By Law, too. Henry Rollins plays a cop in the 1994 movie The Chase. Jack White plays a traveling musician in Cold Mountain, & the story goes the director made his role bigger because he acted and fit the story so well.

unlabelledView post →Not so sure about Train Dreams. Pretty movie. Love Felicity and William H. Macy. Tree of Life meets Cold Mountain vibes. But the first half felt like trad wife porn and if we’re doing grief movies with trees and ferns and men going away too long for work, the ending of Hamnet hits harder.
unlabelledView post →Cold Mountain. Went with a friend and because we don’t talk during the film, it wasn’t until the end we realised we both hated it and could have left after half an hour and gone to do something more fun instead. Fuming at our own politeness and manners.
unlabelledView post →It's how I felt about Cold Mountain. Trailers showed lots of gunfire, explosions, general civil war combat. Go see the movie. All of that was in first 5 mins. Rest of it was a slow, plodding drama fest of boredom. Left halfway through.

unlabelledView post →Agreed (yes, that was hard for me to say). Ever since the 2004 awards that left great, relevant-to-the-story songs from Triplets of Belleville, A Mighty Wind (heart of that movie) and Cold Mountain for the credit scroll tune of Return Of The King, it’s been obvious they ditched the rubric.
