In the class-obsessed and religiously divided UK of the early 1920s, two determined young runners train for the 1924 Paris Olympics. Eric Liddell, a devout Christian born to Scottish missionaries in China, sees running as part of his worship of God's glory and refuses to train or compete on the Sabbath. Vangelis called it the greatest synthesizer ever made and used it extensively on both the *Blade Runner* and *Chariots of Fire* sound tracks - the latter winning him an Oscar. The irony of McCartney making the abominable *Wonderful Christmastime* with it is not lost to synth lovers.

unlabelledView post →1492: Conquest of Paradise. Very few people remember the movie (I still do and rewatch it regularly), but the soundtrack by Vangelis is an absolute banger. In general, his soundtracks tend to be better than the movies. Alexander is another great example. Chariots of Fire and Bounty are fine movies, but still greatly enhanced by his soundtracks. Perhaps the only movie that stood on its own against a soundtrack by Vangelis was Blade Runner.
