I haven't finished the game yet (I'm on day 5), but at this point I don't think it's going to get better, so here goes. I really wanted to like this game. In fact, I was so excited for it, because I loved the first two Coffee Talk games so much. Unfortunately, Tokyo fumbles the writing so badly it doesn't feel like a Coffee Talk game at all, and I can't honestly recommend it to anyone, especially if they liked the first two installments in the series like I did. Where its precursors did a…

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 632: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆☆ (6/10) Hmm, sometimes I wish Steam had a Mixed option, because Coffee Talk Tokyo deserves it imo. I quite enjoyed the previous two games in the series, so I was quite hopeful for Coffee Talk Tokyo. On the service, there's much to like! The art and music is delicious as ever, and there are a couple new additions to making drinks. The setting is also fresh and unique. It's not a bad game by any means, but it does…

IT'S LATE, THE WORLD IS LOUD, LET'S DRINK CAFFEINE In Coffee Talk Tokyo, you play as a barista who owns a cosy, late-night café in Tokyo. You're not the same character as previous games, though the barista in Seattle is mentioned several times 👀. As usual, you're here to serve drinks to customers and listen to them as they connect to you and to each other. Whether your patrons are humans or yōkai, you get to listen to all the small ways people try to survive modern life. Get the drinks…

I haven't finished the game yet (I'm on day 12 now), but unlike the first game, I don't think I can recommend CT Tokyo to anyone. (Warning there will be spoilers ahead.) Social Media Influence For starters, I get the feeling that this game was written by someone from the Twitter/X, social media loving, Gen Z+ generational group. While social media was present in the previous games (iirc), I don't remember it being anywhere near this pervasive. Checking the social media posts…

The first two games were great and were really grounded in being relatable in today's world. But this third installment was far different and I had to refund it. I think the premise is great, a change from the old cast, location and new barista but the execution was just half baked imo. One thing that I do not like especially it being the main purpose of this games is the cast, it felt like self inserts and that their problems and ideologies are just shoved towards your face like you as a…

I am a massive fan of the previous games, so I had to play this one, sadly already on day 1 on 2 something felt wrong. The more I played, the more I disliked the game. The characters instantly say what is bothering them, I ended this game after day 4 because some of the character became insufferable and preachy already. Barista, who used to be objective and say some hard truth and offer some path forwards became a yes man. Characters instead of slowly saying some story and leading certain way…

For fans of the original duology, Tokyo forgoes subtlety and finesse in favour of direct emotional impact, and for the most part it works. I always like to think the first game is meeting the best friends you've never had, and EP2 is a reunion with them. For Tokyo I am compelled by a lot of the emotions evoked by the cast, but I have to say I don't feel the same coziness that I found in the previous games. This is not to to say that it's worse, it's different, like the change of city…

After replaying the first Coffee Talk game and eagerly playing through the second one, I was optimistic and excited about playing Coffee Talk Tokyo. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed to find that this game almost completely made me lose interest, to the point where only one character's story made me stay until the end (Ayame's, I was pissed her ending made me cry because of how bad the rest of the stories were to me, personally). It pains me to leave this review because the first two games were solid. The new assistant person feels very forced and deliberate, and if I didn't know any better I'd say it was a self-insert. Characters feel less relatable and the dialogue gets very cringey at times. It feels like the devs are trying too many niche things to reach an audience that doesn't exist. I cannot recommend this game, but the first two are much better. The only constant is that the music is still very good.

This is more Coffee Talk, nothing more nothing less. It's a visual novel where you don't have any actual dialogue choices that change things, instead you influence the ending each character get depending on if you serve the correct drink or not. The mechanicsc has not changed much from the previous games but this time you have cold brew choices too, but apart from more choices, there isn't much different. If you liked the previous games, you will like this. If you didn't there is little here to…

Worst of the 3 by some way. I think it probably has the weakest characters, Annoying phone notifications every 3 seconds because of hashtags, stories etc and the dialogue is not great. Some slight issues with the fact that characters are Japanese folklore based and i'm a westerner with limited knowledge of that. The lore of the barista is also diminishing. Maybe it's because I don't relate to this game characters than the other two. A more serious twist on the Coffee Talk visual novel formula. Overall, where Coffee Talk 1 and 2 are funnier, even if still real, 3 is an overall more serious take on the genre, tackling harder and more nuanced topics, such as chronic disabilities. It's also more inclusive, has better art, and factors in whether you've read Tomodachill posts in the talks. Overall, a game about grieving. But in a cozy and safe atmosphere.
