unlabelledView post →an excellent game even for those who don’t like soulslike games very much (after all, WeMod is there for that), with interesting lore, a dark story involving vampires and post-apocalyptic monsters and many mysterious characters. for me it was one of those games that, after finishing it, made me want to research more to better understand the universe in which the game takes place and the details that weren’t clear during the campaign and I think that’s really cool!! I also really liked the…

Can't wait to see more of the game. Namco Bandai seems really excited for people to get their hands on it this week!

Lets start with the positives, shall we? -The story is clearly communicated, quests are too, no cryptic descriptions you try to figure out, in short: its easy to understand. -Level up system is very simple. Instead of leveling up different stats, to meet a certain ability or weapon requirement, you only level up your character, and the chosen…

unlabelledView post →Code Vein turned out to be a fun and interesting soulslike. I had my eye on it for a long time but never really got around to playing it. Now that I finally did, I had a good time with it. What I liked Character editor My huge respect. So many options, details and ways to customize your character. You can easily spend hours in it, and that's what I did. Controls Feel responsive and comfortable. They are a bit overloaded with functions, but everything works nicely once you get used to it.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you thought this was a hardcore soulslike.... relax. it's an anime waifu creator simulator with oversized weapons where an AI companion carries boss fights for you while you're lost in another identical corridor. the textures of the cathedral will haunt your nightmares but the character editor easily destroys even AAA games.

unlabelledView post →It's not bad, but it feels too much like a poor man's souls with an anime flair. I kept playing and finished everything, the gameplay and combat are definitely serviceable, and I was giving the story time to take me through its paces... But it ultimately didn't amount to much. Code Vein has no egregious flaws but it's just sub-par in everything it does, the execution and polish is below your commonly recommended souls likes and I'm surprised it's this popular. There's quite a lot of cutscenes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Code Vein is an odd game. With 100 hours and 4 playthroughs (I did not raise the difficulty for the NG+ runs because I'm a coward and was just achievement hunting) under my belt as of writing this review, I'd say that I can definitely share my thoughts on this game that I have grown surprisingly attached to. There are a lot of things I've heard about Code Vein, such as it being, "The Anime Dark Souls" and the like, and well, I can't really say much about that. The Souls inspiration is very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genuinly want to enjoy this, however there are too many issues that pile up. Pros: - Interesting character build system that offers a lot of playstyle options and is fun to experiment with - Relatively well modelled world and characters Cons: - Combat feels unbalanced and poorly thought out. - Enemies are too large for the camera, made worse when the game like sending multiple at once. - Enemies don't realistically gang up on you like in Dark Souls, surrounding you and kind of trying not…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genuinely feel kinda bad for the devs at Bandai Namco, they released Code Vein 2 the same week as Nioh 3 when it's pretty clear the game might've benefited from another 6 months to a year of dev time.
unlabelledView post →This is a low pressure soulslike game. It is carried by build freedom and a genuinely useful AI partner. The AI partner draws aggro and revives you, making bosses very easy but still fun. The flaws are still obvious. Weapons feel light, hit feedback and hitboxes are poor, and the maps are large, empty and easy to get lost in. Cathedral of the Sacred Blood is especially painful. All things considered, I recommend buying it on sale.

Absolutely not Whoever designed that maze owes me therapy Story wise, it leans full anime very dramatic, kinda cliche, very God Eater vibes. Which is a weird mix for a Souls like that’s usually more subtle and bleak. It’s experimental, and your mileage may vary. Some people will love it, others will cringe a bit Me? It grew on me This is 100% a guilty pleasure game, the longer you play, the more you start…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun character creator, ive heard rumors theres a full souls game in here somewhere too
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a Souls-like the combat feels pretty clunky, most of the bossfights come off as generic, and the gear designs don’t really stand out or look cool. That said, the story is absolutely fire, and honestly carries the whole game. All things considered, I still recommend it mainly because I got the game for around $3, and for that price the experience is more than worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although this game is a "Souls-like," it isn't quite as punishing or difficult as the classic titles in the genre. I say this as someone who isn't typically a fan of Souls games, yet managed to complete this one four times—earning the Platinum trophy—with very few issues (perhaps only a couple of bosses proved genuinely challenging). The game boasts a wonderful atmosphere and features companions who are both interesting and diverse. The overarching lore of the universe is a bit questionable…

unlabelledView post →A stylish action RPG that blends challenging combat with deep character customization and an engaging companion system. While it takes inspiration from Souls-like games, it builds its own identity through fast-paced gameplay, unique abilities, and a strong anime aesthetic. + Excellent character customization and flexible builds + Fast, rewarding combat with fun companion mechanics – Some level design can be confusing and repetitive – Story and dialogue don't always reach their full potential…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game if its on sale. I picked it up for $5. So it was well worth the $5. Code Vein doesn'ty do anything great. Its just all decent and not overly challenging. I like anime and I like souls games. Not a super fan of either but I enjoy them. So it was worth playing through the game once. I have no desire for new game plus or unlocking the other endings. Nor does this game make me want to go and buy Code Vein 2. Its a solid 2019 souls like that is showing its age with…

unlabelledView post →The last game I played for work in 2025 was Code Vein II, and it's the first game I'm writing about in 2026 for @shacknews.com. Its combat design is thoughtful and the bosses I played were stellar, but what stuck with me was how emotive the characters were, even when they didn't speak.

unlabelledView post →At first, the game feels promising, but the exploration quickly becomes frustrating. The map design is confusing, poorly made, and feels like random mazes stitched together with repetitive scenery.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is infinitely better than the sequel. I wanted to like Code Vein 2 but it feels dead and empty compared to this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got to review Code Vein 2 for PC Gamer! a game I basically like despite how much it babe ruth points to the stands only to swing a strike lol
unlabelledView post →Personal Rating: Very Positive (85%) I got this game while the 2025 Summer sale, and then shelved it for a year. But now I came back to it, so here are my thoughts. Story: It seems like another game where you have to survive the end of humanity, nothing really special in this genre. I still don't know if you can just free roam after getting on the surface, but I guess I will figure it out. Character creator is very good, and better than Code Vein 2's Character Creator Demo, it's much more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No. The combat is the backbone in a game like this and the devs did a poor job at attempting to copy Dark Souls. Combat really needs more polish, but it won't ever get it. Stun-lock. It's so bad. Enemies can stun lock you to death so easily, but you cannot do the same in return. Your special abilities can be canceled mid-animation and cause you to die in seconds. You have an awesome ability you unlocked? Who cares, enemies will knock you out of the wind up, knock you out of the attack…

unlabelledView post →This is a neutral review. This is my first-ever souls-like game. I'm a total newbie, so if you've never played games in this genre, don't worry. Your AI companion will help you with bosses and mobs. If you're a veteran of the genre, the game still offers a solid challenge - just ditch your partner and play solo. Mobs won't pose much of a threat (they weren't hard even for me), but the bosses... well, you do you. Pros: works well for both casual and experienced players the core gameplay is fun…

unlabelledView post →Code Vein is honestly a lot better than I expected. The combat feels challenging but not overwhelming, especially with companions helping you out, which makes it more approachable than other Souls-like games. Fights are intense and rewarding, and once you get the hang of dodging and timing your attacks, it feels really satisfying. One thing I really liked is how flexible the build system is. Being able to switch Blood Codes anytime means you’re never stuck with one playstyle, so experimenting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of the time of this review, at least 75% of the playing hours you see above were spent in the character creation screen.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →completely lost it because I saw someone say "Code Vein is like a PS2 game," when Code Vein owes its existence wholly to a few very specific PS3 games
unlabelledView post →This is one of the best dress-up games I've ever bought. I hear it has a Soulslike game mode built into it too, but I haven't messed around with it too much.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Me, seeing the sequel trailer: "Maybe I should check out Code Vein. I got it for free anyway." Me, actually playing Code Vein: "Wait... Is this a gooner game? Eh, still handles well."
unlabelledView post →okay so I've had time to actually think about this one, and the more I sit with it, the better it gets. The vibes are genuinely immaculate, post-apocalyptic anime vampire aesthetic goes crazy hard, and the memories is actually one of the smartest storytelling mechanics I've seen in the genre. Like they built the entire narrative delivery around amnesia as a theme. You piece together who these people were through blood codes and lost memories and it clicks in a way that most soulslikes never…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grade: B/B- Went through the trouble to 100% complete the title, so figured I would make a review now that my journey is over. Firstly, if you go in expecting a souls title, be aware that Code Vein is not that. Yes it is tagged as such, and it does have difficulty, but it controls and feel are quite different. Tsk...what to say... Before you even start, spend 3 hours in the character creator carefully recreating your favorite waifu- just to immediately cover their face with a gas mask. Want to…
