Code 8 is X-Men minus the budget and the A-list cast, and that's the good news. Unfortunately, the movie suffers more, not when it deviates from, but when it copies Marvel's mutants. Code 8 is set in a world where 4% of the population are born with various supernatural abilities, but instead of being rich and famous, they face discrimination, live in poverty, and often turn to crime. As far as I can tell, Code 8 is …

Just watched #Code8 on #Netflix and, for what it is (#action #flick with a fresh take) it's pretty good. A more realistic "powered humans in a distrustful, antagonist world" #movie than any other such movie or tv show I can think of. For a moment, I thought they were going to disappoint me and cheapen the ending, but they did the right thing, which is more than the vast majority of movies and shows can claim. Funded …

I watched the first Code 8 and you could say that about the low budget B roots. The film punches above its weight. Not quite a killer B, but certainly... a Dangerous B? I was impressed with what they did considering what they had, tbh

Code 8 is X-Men minus the budget and the A-list cast, and that’s the good news. It is a very imaginative movie, but it has absolutely zero curiosity about its own characters. #Code8 #MovieReview #SciFi #ScienceFiction https://ninetypercentcrapmoviereviews.wordpress.com/2022/11/15/code-8/

#AzAbsorbs: Code 8 (2019): letterboxd.com/film/code-8-... A modern reboot of the ideas behind X-Men, a lot of interesting angles left unexplored to chase a bog standard plot.
How this was made: an AI model (deepseek-v4-flash) read 34 of the 44 public posts we collected about this film and wrote the summary, likes and dislikes, citing the posts behind each point ([n] opens the post). A second AI pass checked every statement against the posts it cites; anything it could not match was removed, and code removed any statement with quotation marks, numbers that are not in the posts, or unattributed claims about people. The split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Generated Oct 13, 2026. Method

unlabelledView post →Last night I watched Code 8: Part 2. I think I’m the only person who saw the first film. It was tense, had a decent metaphor running through it and had a good heist scene. This second one was a more generic dystopian sci-fi action film. Maybe even I should have given it a miss

Another wonderful movie by the Amells (great action), although that beard on Robbie threw me off until he started speaking. I couldn't figure out which Amell it was for a few minutes. If you haven't seen it and love action do it! #Code8PartII

unlabelledView post →Wow. I've never had such an emotional reaction to what's ultimately a #horror flick, and I don't mean fear or anything like that, but empathy and sympathy. Another movie (like #Code8 last night) where the ending is as it should be, and the final shot is devastatingly poignant. #Cerdita (#Piggy) is bloody at times, but not gory, and suggests much more than it shows, letting our minds fill in the horror. An excellent addition to, and expansion of, the genre. Who are the real monsters in life?

negative · AI labelView post →Robbie Amell is undoubtedly a good-looking man, but that really does not forgive the fact that as an actor, he is really dead behind the eyes. The concept here is quite interesting - ordinary people have superpowers and are all still pretty much persecuted by the authorities. Amell is down on his luck and has a sick mother so, to pay for her extortionately expensive treatment, he seeks work casually - and soon falls in with the wrong company where he uses his powers (he can generate and focus…
neutral · AI labelView post →Code 8 never really grabbed me, though I managed to watch it all the way through. Perhaps I am an outlier viewer, but I would have liked to see more time spent on why society lowered the status of the super-powered people to practically second class citizens. To me that might have been more compelling viewing than the details of Connor’s descent into crime or his mother’s rather stereotypical declining health. But within its narrow plot and limited number of interesting characters, it may have…
neutral · AI labelView post →I thought the trailer made Code 8 look like it was gonna be pretty bad, but I liked the premise, and I wanted to see what Stephen Amell could do in a 2019 feature film, so I gave it a chance, and while I don't think it was great, it was better than I had been expecting. There were some bits that sort of reminded me of last year's Darkest Minds, and that's definitely a bad thing, but overall it was actually pretty decent. It goes for both the social commentary, and a pew pew splodey zap zap…
