60 of 169 · most liked firstTL;DR: This could have been a great game, except it turned into a series of shameful cash grabs. If you're looking for a great, complete city builder, go for Cities Skylines. A bit of history here... Back when EA disappointed hardcore Sim City fans with Sim City Societies in 2007 (yes, that was even before the SimCity 2013 debacle), a little-known French developer called Monte Cristo stepped forward, claiming that they were listening to the community and developing the city builder that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So you remember how City Skylines 2 got backlash for rendering everything at full detail no matter zoom distance, leading to the game lagging out and crashing out due to resource overload? This game does it too while also looking much worse and never fixing it!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never ever delete City Hall. You'll never get to build it again. Your city will crash. :))))))))
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just buy Cities: Skylines.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just buy Cities:skyline instead
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game I played before City Skylines! This game was the best city builder I ever played, then came City Skylines. You should definitely buy City Skylines now instead of this, but just remember this was original bae.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game lives in Cities Skylines shadow. SO many broken mechanics, runs poorly, and just looks so dated at times even with the graphics at max. If it was optimized better and the bugs and mechanics were fixed, this game would be amazing. Just buy Cities Skylines.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Broken game. Don't waste your money. Some many of the mechanics are broken. If you want to play a city builder get Cities: Skylines. That game is by a better developer, works properly and actually has ongoing support.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game for 2019 get cities skylines instead much gooder haha yes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game doesn't work anymore unfortunately. Tried replaying it today (2020) and tried a lot of ways that could be affecting this game. My computer is beefy with enough RAM and good gpu. This game is also dead. Has been since the game released. It was a good city builder to replace the disastrous Sim City 5. Unfortunately, Cities: Skylines came around 2015 and satisfied the city building games. I had fun for the 6 hours I played this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me fix the title for you: Glitches XL Buggy, low effort and terrible user interface
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There was a real city-building simulators trend back in the day and plenty of competition on this field. But now we have basically Cities Skylines series only. Games like Anno or Frostpunk are something else, and I wouldn't count them proper them city building simulators. And the original series that started it all, SimCity, are now dead. It's kind of shame but it indicates changes in tastes of mass auditory, I guess. So, this particular game was not bad for its time. Hard to say if it's worth…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-Very rough looking, very outdated -UI looks terrible, and some parts of it are very hard to see (even when i put the UI size on maximum) -Movement feels very outdated Etc.... And to top it all, i managed to launch the game once. After my first play trough i couldn't get it to launch again. I liked some elements of it (Individual building placements, ways to fill up empty areas...), but generally, it's a bad game. Honestly, I couldn't see anyone playing this considering Cities: Skylines…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I checked out Skylines before I played this... big mistake. Just stick to Skylines, even without the murderously expensive DLCs, the vanilla is excellent.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As I remember from playing this game many years back, it always fell apart once your city grew a little. Honestly, I think mechanically it was a great city sim and could give cities skylines a run for its money if only they solved their size issue. Once your city gets large enough your performance will tank. It'll become a slide show. I still think its one of the better games for how it handled parks and your ability to fill the void spaces between buildings.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seemed good at first, but as others have said, it is poorly optimized and lags a few hours into any given game as your city gets bigger.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ladies and gentlemen, fellow city builders, gather 'round as Mayor McDisappointment addresses the citizens of Cities XL Platinum! Now, when I stumbled upon Cities XL, I thought I had found the golden ticket to a city simulation utopia. You see, I'd heard some not-so-great things about a certain other city-building game that shall not be named (cough, SimCity), and I thought, "Hey, maybe this game's got the secret sauce!" At first glance, it's like buying a skyscraper at a bargain price. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nothing in this game worked for me, no progress or anything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worst city game I have ever played. It looks cheap, it is cheap. Gameplay is unnecessarily tedious. There's no reason you should have a road stretching to the map border when the city hasn't even been built yet. There's no reason why you should have 5 different types of zones for residential that are only separated by their literacy rate. The functionality of this game made me immediately quit, uninstall, and refund. The only redeeming quality this game has is the Earth view.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cities XL is a buggy, yet addictive city-building game. The main draw is the modding community - there are hundreds of mods available on xlnation to allow you to build your own city. Avoid Cities XXL, btw. Stick with 2011, 2012, or Platinum
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Waste of money and that was before Cities: Skylines
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If your plan was to play this for $10, just buy a good city builder like Cities: Skylines. C:S is better in every way, do not waste your time with this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad Controls and Layouts
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for Christmas in 2021 from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account and get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this game gifted by a friend who thought they were gifting me Cities Skylines. This is not that game and is inferior in nearly every way. Save your money and time and go with Cities Skylines.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I knew I was in for a wild ride the moment I started the tutorial. The characters are blocky and janky, there are typos in the text, and the tutorial assumes the player is a man. Because girls don't play games or something, right? Then I saw the screenshots on the community page. One in particular caught my eye . . . a guy in a suit dancing next to three women in bikinis on his front lawn? What? I had so many questions. Were those Playboy bunnies? Why would someone mod this game to get some…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eeeehhhhhh... get Cities Skylines, this one ain't good. Not horrible, but there's better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played this one quite a lot in the day ... until CITIES:SKYLINES appeared and stole the show. The WHOLE show.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even though I saw mixed reviews on this game I risked buying it and i don't regret it at all. I personally think that the game isn't bad at all.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad attempt at making a Simcity clone. There's some bugs and the game crashes. There's a better or enhanced version out there which is also said to be broken so there's that. Disappointing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poorly optimized.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've had this game for years. I had the CD game long before I gave in and bought it on Steam. As city builders go, I've always liked being able to create multiple cities around the world and then have them essentially trade with each other. But in all the years I've played it, I've never succeeded without cheating. Take that as you want. The game is visually pretty, has a decent series of tutorials, and doesn't tax my mid-to-low-grade computer. If you like city builders, get this one. It's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is honestly amazing. for me it's everything i could want in a city builder because i prefer just being able to build whatever i want and grow my city as opposed to have to like spend hours grinding to be able to grow. it also runs pretty nice on my pc (which isn't the greatest) but it does lag a bit since i have a TON of buildings. 10/10 game, worth it for 2 bucks ngl
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The ripoff We all know this was a ripoff and a bad one of sim city. Overly complex controls and awful UI can't be hidden by a polish which is what they tried to do, prettier graphics attempting to hide rush job mechanics.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cities XL Platinum (2013) I have been watching a Youtuber called Call Me Kevin who plays City Skylines in the most bizarre and funny ways. I wanted to try my own approach, the problem being I do not own City Skylines on Steam, but I do have this game - Cities XL. To give you an idea of how this game played out in the tutorial - I sold everything for giggles and the game kinda just stopped responding. I gave this game a go, it's terrible compared to City Skylines, rather get that game instead.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very laggy after a few hours. Like, playing on 5fps kinda lag. Placing zones is also very buggy the 2nd time you do it, let's say, if you're replacing low-density with medium density. You may find that, on the second pass, you can't fit even half the buildings in that you used to; despite them being the same size.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buggy and reimplemented better in follow ups. Even at the time, I would say there's better coming and better that had been released so just play something a few years older. Now? don't bother.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's terrible. Don't buy it. Get Cities Skylines instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a bit dated, and lacks complexity compared to Skylines; but its great as a laid back couch experience (with a Steam Controller, of course!) Graphics are reasonable, the sim is realistically frustrating and the price is right without having to play the "which DLC" game before you press play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me start out with saying if you are looking for the best city builder simulation game then you want City Skylines. The game is okay. My biggest complaint is that the developer/publisher has just doing anything with this game. I have purchased every single DLC for City Skyline. I like my city games to keep expanding. I wish I would have purchased the game on some kind of super sale. If you can get this game for around 10 USD then I would say it is worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed in the past(played the OG one), but go buy C:Skylines instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thanks for the 85% discount, the game really playable on my laptop. 60fps at low setting. I will play the game for the rest of the week❤❤stay focus edit: I really love the game❤❤
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My gateway city builder to Cities: Skylines. Beware the traffic and debt monsters, as they will stop at nothing to ruin your sprawling metropolis. There's just something special about dropping down a bunch of building zones and watching your city grow before your eyes and trying to prevent the mayhem that ensues shortly after.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cities XL Platinum™ might be re-release of the outdated version of a bugged-out computer-overheating game from 2010 filled with from the original game is woefully flawed with terrible screen tearing and CPU issues... some people like it... others don't like it... Overall it's still playable after all...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its good for a cheap city building game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10. A good, optimized city building game. I don't know if it's my PC or not, but sometime when I play long enough, the game began to slow down to the point it touches 3-5 FPS. At first, it's a good 20 FPS, but after some hours it's dipped. But still, good alternatives for Cities: Skyline.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was a decent city builder when it came out, but it has unfortunately aged badly and there are much better alternatives to this now. Go get Cities Skylines instead https://store.steampowered.com/app/255710/Cities_Skylines/ __________________ [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45534557/]Follow my Curator for more!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyable game. No Sim City but honestly Sim City isn't Sim City anymore so a dream lost I suppose. Cities is great and probably better for hardcore or more hardcore city designer types. For me I like to mess around and it's a fun game to do that. Easy to load easy to learn easy to play. Just a nice relaxing city builder.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, this game is not nearly as bad as many reviews may say. If you're looking for a dollar-store cities skylines that can run on a potato, this is your game (although it may lack many features you'd find in cities skylines and even SC4 to a certain degree). The gameplay is pretty solid; it has all the main features you'd come to expect from a game like this. Graphics are great (especially for its age) and run pretty well on low-end devices, but they will start to get choppy as your city…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →None of the other reviews on this game have been completely honest. They mostly say this game is comparable to SimCity and better than. That is simply not true. It is a numbers grinding game where you have a ton of city stats that don't relate to anything and there's little real time responses to them. Also its very unclear what anything does and/or their relationships. For example you can have high tech industry with no education prerequisites and there is no way to track how educated…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its an okay game that is not as hardcore as SC4 and yet not as beautiful and engrossing as Skylines. It suffers from lagging in both areas appealing to a far smaller audience. It is also horribly optimized and just runs like a dog when it starts getting interesting. It has potential, but that potential was wasted being mired as below average is most categories for a city builder.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've enjoyed playing this game off and on for years. It allows great creativity to design layouts with different flows with fair enough realistic results. Still fun to just play for fun and goof off and enjoy causing mayhem or taking more time to be diligent in planning every detail that is needed for a vibrant and profitable city that is desirable to live in.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game with a lot of unique aspects that make this one of a kind. Easy to get into and sink hours playing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Performance Issues when your city starts to become big
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basicaly Buget version of city skylines
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5/10 - if you like these types of simulator games this one is probably decent, but there is a lack of action. I built a small town and had to move to something that did not make me fall asleep.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cities XL Platinum is the Platinum version of Cities XL, which is a ripoff of Sim City. Where the Maxis/EA people did a pretty poor job of modernising Sim City, a couple of games slipped into the vaccuum. While Cities XL Platinum looks good, it's buggy, and was superseded pretty quickly by Cities XXL. That in turn was blindsided by the much better, but unrelated Cities Skylines. When Cities XXL came out, they should have removed this from Steam, but it lingers, with an inexplicable $12.95…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why are you even looking at this game, just play cities skylines.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game when it first came out, dumped her for simcity who I dumped for cites skylines. Well I found her walking the streets of steamcity selling herself cheap. so she's back in my life and I'm sorry I left her. The Graphics are better (in some ways) than skylines and it has trading like simcity (you can build more than 1 city or trade with the AI). It dosen't have the charm of skylines but the cities you can build can look impressive and you should get some fun from building up…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An attempt at integrating world economics and the typical city building formula results in a game with good ideas, but little functionality. Originality isnt always a guarentee for success.
