Developer Square Enix, D4Enterprise Co.,Ltd.
Chrono Cross is a 1999 role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the PlayStation video game console. Have you played it, peeps?

A follow-up to the RPG classic Chrono Trigger that builds upon characters first envisioned in the Sattelaview game, Radical Dreamers - players traverse parallel worlds while recruiting an eclectic cast of characters on their journey to save time.

unlabelledView post →I remain a staunch defender of Chrono Cross. Gorgeous game, with more little strings connecting it to Trigger than people give credit for, especially once you've played Radical Dreamers. The whole connective tissue all the way through all three is what makes it feel deeper and more important.

unlabelledView post →Chrono Cross is 25 years old today which means we've been waiting 25 years for a new Chrono game
unlabelledView post →My import of Chrono Cross arrived yesterday! Ive been level grinding in FF6 to make the endgame more manageable so I can finish and start these.
unlabelledView post →Chrono Cross' battle system is very underutilized because the game never actually makes you struggle at any point aside from a single battle with a guy named Miguel who looks like this. He is somehow harder than the final boss and is only topped by a superboss you can avoid combat with entirely

unlabelledView post →Usually I chip away at retro games, but Vagrant Story has completely consumed me and I’ve set aside everything else. I haven’t been this obsessed with a PS1 game since 2000 when Chrono Cross was released.
unlabelledView post →honestly 90s/early 2000s game output was so insane, someone asked if Chrono Cross was the worst drop off a sequel ever had and like, you gotta keep in mind Chrono Cross is still a 90s era Squaresoft RPG
unlabelledView post →Happy 30th anniversary to my favorite game of all time. I’ll never forget the day I rented Chrono Trigger. No other game has ever compared to the wonder I felt that day, and I still cry at the end even after all this time. Sneaky Chrono Cross music box wanted to be included.
unlabelledView post →As consoles try to end physical games, this is my most emotionally important physical game. The re-release of Chrono Cross included Radical Dreamers, previously never released internationally, & only on Satellaview. The SEA Switch release is the ONLY official physical release. I LOVE that it exists.
unlabelledView post →Final thoughts on Chrono Cross I have upgraded my opinion of this game from "I hate it" to "I think it's VERY messy and I'm not sure the ambition shines through the mess a lot of the time"
unlabelledView post →Chrono Cross might not be perfect, but it is worth playing just to see the Chrono Trigger world expand. Plus, it has what is easily one of the best soundtracks ever made. However, this PC port is in an unacceptable state. I managed to stop the crashes by following the guide titled “Performance guide 2025 – No crashes” here on Steam. If your monitor supports G-SYNC, you also need to turn it off before you play. If Square bothers to fix the flaws of this port, I will update my review.

unlabelledView post →The game crashes every 10-15 minutes on Steamdeck, and every 30 minutes or so on PC. Given that it's a manual save system, this essentially makes the game unplayable unless you want to frequently repeat content and throw the dice in hopes that it doesn't crash before the next save point. This quality of port is completely unacceptable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Will always love that Chrono Cross went from "what if we made a jrpg with 45 party members" to "what if we made the horniest video game known to man that appealed to every possible hyperspecific kink imaginable"

unlabelledView post →I loved Chrono Cross on PS1, as a huge fan of Chrono Trigger, like probably most of us did. Seeing the mixed reviews held me off buying it for a very long time. Eventually, after seeing a post informing the game was patched I decided to give it a try - and it was a total lagfest. I uninstalled it right away and requested a refund (which I received) I love Chrono Cross - and I was so disappointed it was not available on PC but the reviews and my first experienced kept me from buying it a second…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is unplayable. Its the only game currently on my list of games that I cannot complete reasonably due to constant freezing and crashing. I've done all the patches and tweaks I know to do other than modding the game but when you pay money for a game you don't want to have to mod a game to make your money worth it. I will be glad to change my review if this mess gets sorted but I doubt it ever will. If I can emulate this game on my cell phone this PC port should of been a walk in the…

unlabelledView post →Still don't recommend this. Tons of crashes and they will vary from freezing touching an enemy on the field maps to the game just straight up crashing to desktop after touching enemies in the Viper Manor. Viper Manor is one of the most unstable regions in the game and you return to it multiple times as well. My playtime reflects the one time the game worked for whatever reason, and I suffered through this. Many attempts including only a week ago still yield the same crashes as before. Do not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game completely froze during a battle within the first 15 mins. We've had emulator technology for decades that work fine, why can't big companies figure this ♥♥♥♥ out?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A poorly done port with frequent crashes. Look for other options if you want to play this game

unlabelledView post →This is a classic game, but in usual Square fashion the port is a mess. Expect constant crashing in certain parts of the game unless you patch the game EXE with a third party app (the NTCore 4GB Patch utility). The game was stable for me after I did that, but there's no reason why Square couldn't do something like that themselves. If you don't mind fixing up the game yourself with a third party utility, then I'd give this a tentative thumbs up just because it's nice that it's finally on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just go to nexus mods, download one of the grafics revamps, install it (it is easy!!), and come back here to thank me!!! aaah, the problem with the fps is already solved.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately, the game crashes mentioned are still there on the steam deck as of this review. It's a shame as I was looking forward to reliving some old-school jrpg goodness. As it stands you're better off looking elsewhere until the issues that plague this version are dealt with.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Many reviews are upvoting the core game but downvoting the port, but if I had downvoted it, I would have downvoted the core game. I'm upvoting it because we asked SE for this and they succeeded in giving it to us. I can't attest to the technical problems other players have experienced; the framerates are fine and in 50 hours of playtime I experienced no crashes and only 2 or 3 minor graphical glitches. A small handful of upscales could have used some further tuning but it's definitely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, but this version of it keeps freezing up, no matter what I try. Save your money and play via emulator or something.

unlabelledView post →While Not Chrono Trigger 2, It's A Sequel Worth Playing No issues on Steam after doing a few minor things, listed below For better and worse, Chrono Cross stands on it's own as a sequel to the JRPG-classic - Chrono Trigger. It does things better, it does things worse. It's best to see this as a continuation of the world, rather than a direct sequel that expands and polishes the systems that came before it. These games flow and play differently. Steam Issues Seeing the mixed reviews, it…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a recent Chrono Cross enjoyer I could smell the amount of rage created by my guy Miguel here Truly the game saying in the 11th hour "Aight time to filter anyone who didn't bother learn how to play the game."

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What can I say about the Chrono Games that hasn’t already been said? They are masterpieces! The only reason this game does not have an “Overwhelmingly Positive” reputation is that it is a bad port; there, I said it! No real surprise here when you think about it: this reflects the same disrespect AAA studios have for turn-based RPGs, retro IPs and PC-gamers (thank the gods for stuff like Baldur’s Gate and Clair Obscur), but since I have complained about that elsewhere and the base game is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game is broken, and not in a good way, don't buy this till its fixed.... like, i thought it wouldn't be too bad...... i was wrong, its bad, its very very bad ... its april 2026, and it needs more stability patches, i wasn't able to reach the first save point , it was so bad UPDATE !!! : i was able to get it working, but it still needs fixes and patches, as i did encounter some freezing recently , thankfully, i was able to soft-exit, and didn't have to forcefully shut down my steam…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I waited a few years after release to play this game, and it ran really well without any notable gltiches and crashes. I'm already 20 hours+ through the game and have not encountered any technical issue so far (maybe I'm lucky). To be frank, this is one of my all time favourite JRPG and replaying it today - it still holds up well. One huge drawback is that the game graphics has been barely been remastered/ updated at all, so it looks really outdated. To fix this - I highly suggest players try…
