Christine
Nerdy high schooler Arnie Cunningham falls for Christine, a rusty 1958 Plymouth Fury, and becomes obsessed with restoring the classic automobile to her former glory. As the car changes, so does Arnie, whose newfound confidence turns to arrogance behind the wheel of his exotic beauty. Arnie's girlfriend Leigh and best friend Dennis reach out to him, only to be met by a Fury like no other. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →Thinking again about how much I love John Carpenter's CHRISTINE, an easy top 3 entry in his filmography. What a weirdly prescient and insightful film about homosociality, masculinity, and the paradoxical violent power and extreme fragility of the self. www.patreon.com/posts/68801401
unlabelledView post →Christine is such a sad movie. You get a cool car that unlocks your true power as a rockabilly and rather than be happy for you, everyone is terrified of what you’ve become.
unlabelledView post →Call me a cynic, but I’m not sure that Rodney Dangerfield actually performed the Triple Lindy high dive in that one movie with the kid from Christine.

unlabelledView post →Just watched Christine. Good movie, still holds up. Curious about the car, so I googled it. One genuine 1958 Plymouth Fury, the other cars were dressed up to resemble it. I found the actual Fury for sale. Pristine condition, $275,000. Sold! #Christine #1958PlymouthFury

His films were "Christine" (1983), A Soldier's Story" (1984), "Die Hard 2" (1990), "National Lampoon's Class Reunion" (1982), "School Daze" (1988). So long, Art. #RIP

In a new animated short film (narrated by @vancityreynolds.bsky.social), the depth of feeling is clear. Sinclair didn't figure it out until the end, but she played for her mom. www.thestar.com/sports/socce...

It won’t be on PBS until 2026, so I recommend the virtual screener being offered this weekend via the BlackStar Film Festival. Here's a quick piece I wrote for WRTI, based on conversation with director Christine Turner.

God I hate the mainstream.

The straightforward script focuses on her quest for success and her frustrations. Despite its simplicity, it powerfully addresses mental health and disillusionment.
