Castlevania is a video game series created and published by Konami. The series debuted in Japan on September 26, 1986, with Akumajō Dracula (悪魔城ドラキュラ, Akumajō Dorakyura; lit. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely the most bare-bones PC release they could get away with. Can't change audio volume, and can't even exit the game collection properly. Have to use your OS to terminate it (i.e. Alt-F4 or whatever). The one positive surprise is that unlike previous such collections, the emulation latency is actually pretty good. So no button presses that see a result in 3 to 5 business days.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda lazy port but still some of my Favorite Metroidvania games. Also please give us Symphony of the Night!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The short version: Aria of Sorrow is worth the price of admission alone, and Harmony of Dissonance is a solid game worth playing through as well. Super grateful for this collection making these games available on modern platforms, even if half the included games aren't ones I personally care for at all. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be preserved, and I'm glad to see that here. My only real nitpick with this collection is that it never remembers my window size settings, and I wish the…

Overall Rating - High Quality ★★★★☆ First Impressions In my younger years, I was an ardent fan of the NES, but only when it came to their home consoles. Due to this preference, I missed out on some stand-out handheld titles, such as releases that come in the Castlevania Advance Collection (CAC). Thanks to this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The save state function crashed my game, losing my progress. I looked it up and it's a known issue that will not be fixed, making it worthless. Does not pass the bare minimum quality control.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would say that I'm reliving my childhood, but since I was in my 20's when these great games came out. So I guess I am reliving the days when I had a full head of hair. Good collection. Also, I finally collected all the souls in Aria of Sorrow. Never did that back in the day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just finished Aria of Sorrow and god this game might be one of my favorite games of all time. The way the whole castle is connected and the music omg . I like how you can use the abilities you get later in the game in some areas from the beginning. The combat is great for a game released in 2003. The variety of weapons is really good. Some are long range and some are short range. Some use ice fire or darkness. Some have great damage but are close range so you might take damage while trying to…

unlabelledView post →If you're unlucky like me, there's a chance your controller will not work with this game on your PC. Even the Steam Deck doesn't work unless you connect a different controller. I can't recommend buying this game in good faith when unofficial emulators work so much better.

Over the past 22 years, I've revisited these four titles countless times on my GBA and PCE, and experiencing the PC version for the first time still feels fresh. These four titles are exceptionally representative because Dracula X stands as…

Like genuinely, what the ♥♥♥♥ happened? To make a long story short for anyone interested, these ports are basically in-house made (hopefully not stolen) Konami emulators of the original games. Thats fine and dandy 'n all, even has emulation features such as a sub…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love playing 2D metroidvania games on keyboard, sadly this game does not let me rebind keyboard controls and enforces a weird controls schemes that forces movement on arrow keys and A-B to Z-X but my layout is QWERTZ so I essentially have to claw-hand my lefthand to make it work. There isn't even an .ini file to be found to custom remap controls, you'd have to rely on external tools and software to completely synthesize your own virtual keyboard that emulate how you would want to play. I…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Circle of the Moon I still really like this one, although nostalgia is probably doing some of the heavy lifting. The castle is fun to explore, the level design holds up well, and finding secrets always feels rewarding. Grinding for cards can become tedious, but experimenting with different combinations is a lot of fun. Boss fights are also consistently enjoyable. Harmony of Dissonance This was my first time playing it. It follows Symphony of the Night very closely but never reaches the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →aria of sorrow is incredible and you get two other somewhat flawed but still really good games. dracula x is there too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: - General Progression - Exploration - Excellent pixel art - Difficulty curve (mostly) - QoL Enhancements added in the collection Cons: - Endgame Difficulty (CotM) - DSS System and Card Drop Rates (CotM) - Weak OST (HoD) - Guide is needed to beat the game (HoD) - Soul drop rates (AoS) - Hidden endings that require a guide - Dracula X Each of the games in this collection are good in their own right and do standout to me as timeless. Circle of the moon is a great…

However, if you haven't played these as a child chances are, you'd not like some of them very much... Especially that Juste Belmont's game with all its trippy colours which did NOT age well. What makes this collection truly shine is its…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An outstanding way to play some retro Castlevania classics. Let me start off by saying this collection as a whole is MORE than worth the money, especially if you see the prices on ebay for some of these games, so that alone, makes this worth the money, as well as the extras such as artwork, music and the inclusion of Dracula X for SNES, love it or hate it, I enjoyed it! The games themselves aren't exactly terrible but are a product of their age, each one is the Metroidvania style, each with…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve spent some time this morning remembering the Castlevania Advance Collection, a package containing the 3 GBA Castlevania games, an art gallery, music player, save states, a rewind feature, and a bonus SNES game thrown in for fun. This package is $25, on sale right now for $12.50. Anyway
unlabelledView post →Look, although I had a lot of fun with these when I was younger... man, is it ever very outdated and just plain bad game design today. There is good, of course. A lot of the art, especially sprite work, is nice. Some banger tunes (Circle of the Moon has some pretty cool remixes of classic tunes), although HoD and AoS are all original tracks (and while many are good, very few made me nod my head and really get into it). However, the sound quality is complete trash (specifically the music…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely more put together than the original Castlevania Anniversary Collection. The emulation is actually perfect as opposed to sloppy and flawed like the NES/SNES/Genesis/Gameboy counterpart. It's a shame because the Anniversary Collection contains the original retro set of games before everything went all SotN clone. Honestly none of the games in this collection hold a candle to SotN, the closest one is Portrait of Ruin but that's in the Dominus Collection. I was never a fan of Soma Cruz…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Circle of the Moon has not held up. Not enough healing items, healing magic takes forever, regenerating magic takes forever. Not enough teleporters, not enough save locations, leveling takes forever. Card drops are extremely low percentage. It simply does not respect your time. I could overlook all of this, if it was fun to play, or the game was shorter, but the level design is pretty awful, leaving you no way to travel quickly through the rooms, even later on, since there aren't enough…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Placeholder review: This collection consists of 4 games of which i finished 2. Dracula X: Gfx look crazy good but this game isn't a metroidvania. I'm aware that this is preSOTN and that's why I dislike the control scheme(climbing stairs urgh) and movement in general. Didnt finish and wont finish it 5/10 Circle of the Moon: Decent enough game. Card system wasn't for me. Poison sewer part was the most annoying part in any castlevania game i've ever played. Some Bosses are very hard. 6,5/10…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aria of Sorrow definitely better than sex. Harmony of Dissonance slightly better than sex. No opinion on Circle of the Moon.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished playing through all of these with 100% achievements. I grew up with these games, and still love them to this day, even if some have flaws. Circle of the Moon: I appreciate this title more than I used to. The card skill system is fairly fun, and some of the bosses can be a nice challenge. It's combat can feel the most janky out of all three of the GBA titles though, so it can take some getting used to. For a metroidvania, the map design isn't fantastic, but it's not bad either.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing the Castlevanias on NES. I remember renting Simon’s Quest and having absolutely no idea what I was supposed to do. I did finish Castlevania 1 and 3 though, so I have some love for the classic style. This collection has the Castlevania name, but most of the games here play very differently from the NES titles. These are more in line with Symphony of the Night, with exploration, RPG elements, equipment, upgrades, and all that good stuff. With one exception. Circle of the Moon…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Castlevania has castles. Many castles, many rooms. Very vertical.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#Platinum 206: Castlevania Advance Collection. All in all, I had fun. I can't say much other than two bad games (Circle of the Moon, Dracula X), one decent game (Harmony of Dissonance), and one good (Aria of Sorrow). I'm sure there's differing opinions but this is how I feel after playing them all.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing through Circle of the Moon in Castlevania Advance Collection on my Steam Deck. I'm running ReShade with it, which has allowed me to apply a LUT to run the game in the muted original GBA hardware colors instead of the raw washed out colors. Just as God intended.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An Improvement over the previous Castlevania collection. It is just the GBA Trilogy as-is, with the only 'exclusive' feature being the 'Gadgets' for each game which are just tool tips, Circle of the Moon and Aria of Sorrow get simple enemy and DSS/Soul info to show if you have collected them or not. Harmony of Dissonance shows a list of collectibles per area if you haven't collected them yet. The 'Bonus' game here is Dracula X on the SNES, which feels like they just threw this in because…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best part of the collection is "Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow" Then "Castlevania: Circle of the Moon", The most difficult of them all is "Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance" And the last one, "Castlevania: Dracula X", is a complete failure; it doesn't even have a map, and the gameplay is terrible. I wish "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" was on Steam.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →---------------------------------------- *This review will be updated for each game after I complete them.* ---------------------------------------- - Circle of the Moon - A great little gem that made Castlevania much more accessible to the overall public compared to the older games that had quite a lot of cheapness due to limitations. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never played any of the games in the collection so I was in unfamiliar territory compared to the first Castlevania collection (where at least I played a few of the titles). Aria of Sorrows was really good, I enjoyed it the most... aside from the horrendous collect-a-thon of enemy souls. Circle of the Moon had great music and tremendous challenge that forced me to think outside of the box to pull through and the DSS cards were an interesting touch, but boy getting the cards was just a…

unlabelledView post →I bought this for Aria of Sorrow, but surprisingly found that Circle of the Moon was actually quite fun. I did spend the entire game with only a few DSS cards but found that bosses are still doable, though you may need to rely on the cross for that extra oomph. There's definitely more backtracking than I'm used to, but after getting used to the backtracking and the low drop rate of cards, there is a really solid game here. Also a surprise, I quite enjoyed Dracula X. I really thought i would…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A collection of the 3 GBA Castlevanias as well as Dracula X for the SNES. An interesting collection particularly because the first two GBA titles are so different despite both being metroidvanias. Here's my thoughts: Circle of the Moon: The most difficult of the metroidvania style Castlevanias due to some harrowing save point placement, a spiteful vertical platforming section, a couple of challenging bosses and its tricky movement: You walk very slow, and so are compelled to sprint everywhere…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lazy port. You cannot rebind keyboard keys and controls are only shown on screen with controller buttons. If your going to port something to PC, properly support the keyboard.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It sucks on Steam Deck. Very low res UI, uneven pixels even on Pixel Perfect option and no in game options to change the resolution? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ collection
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not great but serviceable. Get it on a special so konami stops making Pachinko machines. Maybe.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all I would like to emphasize that I am replaying most of those games because I previously emulated them when I was a kid. I also tried doing my first playthrough of all of those games in the way that they were intended by not using the quick save function and with no guides. Another crucial point is that I don't grind in any game and I just simply face the challenge which might be a different playstyle from some players. Circle of the Moon: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! This game is ballbustingly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Certainly better than the Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which doesn't even manage to emulate a Gameboy without struggling. You get three "Symphony of the Night"-likes, "Circle of the Moon" being the first among the Gameboy Advance Castlevanias, and it shows. But it gets better with "Harmony of Dissonance" (I especially like the freedom it grants you to mix and match equipment beyond armour) and reaches the pinnacle with "Aria of Sorrow", the one among these most similar to SotN,…
