Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a 2013 Western-themed first-person shooter for PlayStation 3, Windows, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Switch. What people are saying

Overwhelmingly positive, praised for fun arcade shooting and clever storytelling.

Players overwhelmingly praise Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for its satisfying arcade-style gunplay and unique unreliable narrator mechanic, which dynamically changes levels as the story is told. Many call it a hidden gem and one of the best western shooters, with a fast pace and high replayability. [2][4][11][13][16]

Criticism is rare but includes the short campaign length (around 4-6 hours) and some quick-time events. A few players find the story forgettable compared to earlier series entries, but overall the game is seen as a must-play for western and FPS fans. [22][30][34]

In Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (2013), the main character narrates the story, exaggerating and revising it as he goes. Fun game!

WHERE DID IT ALL GO SO WRONG??? This game is perfect. No two ways about it, pardner. The graphics. are more than enough. I don’t need hyperrealism to count every hair on the varmint I’m fixin’ to send to Boot Hill. what carries the game is the art style, pure Wild West glory. Set in the untamed frontier, pretty much the only real culture and history Americans got, complete with comic-book-style level intros and wanted posters. also, at the end of the review you'll find some code to increase…

I Call of Juarez: Gunslinger picked it up on a whim and it turned out to be one of the most memorable shooters I've played in years. The unreliable narrator mechanic is genuinely clever; watching the world reshape itself mid-level as Silas Greaves corrects his own story never gets old and gives the game a personality most AAA titles can only dream of. The gunplay is fast, arcadey, and satisfying in a way that kept me chaining kills just to see the score pop-ups keep climbing. My one real gripe…

Completed the campaign (On Hard and The West Difficulty), duels, arcade mode, and got all achievements. Time put the review. Positive: - Good Story - Good graphics - Level design is really good! - Amazing music during tense shooting - Game is heavily Optimized, if you have crap PC you can still play this game without any issues and no FPS drops. - Arcade is really fun and challenging! Negative: - Sometimes hit register can F you over, even you hit him. - Sometimes in Duels, enemy can still…

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is one of those underrated games. The storytelling gimmick, where the narrator changes the level as he talks, is a unique touch. The gunplay feels smooth, fast, and satisfying. If you like western vibes and FPS action, this is a must play. Full Game Walkthrough: https://youtu.be/Gah98trWZxk

Easiest recommend of my life with how cheap it goes for on sale. It's a straightforward shooter but it just does everything right. The graphics are totally solid for being nearly fifteen years old, the writing gets the job done (and if you look through the lore nuggets is very respectful of old west history), and the action is fast and relentless. I'm not huge on shooters normally but this one really clicked for me. One of the biggest complaints I see in negative reviews is the duel mode. I…

tl;dr underrated, straight-forward, simplistic, fun, and arcadey Wild West FPS - fans of "Dead Man's Hand (2004)" will get some nostalgic feelings Overview Call of Juarez: Gunslinger follows Silas Greaves, a former bounty hunter, as he recounts his past exploits in the American Wild West. I'm going on record as saying that Call of Juarez is my preferred Western game when compared to the Red Dead series. More interesting and nuanced writing. Better action setpieces. Better characters. And just more of a Western FEEL. Even if the Billy levels made me wince. Worth the playthrough.

An arcade shooter first. A western second. The final entry in this underrated Techland series is an arcade style first person shooter with a western theme that puts gameplay above story and style over substance, but in a good and original way. First of all, don't be like me and expect to play a mini Red Dead Redemption. Although its set in the Wild West, it merely acts as the backdrop to a linear fast paced FPS experience. Its not even similar to Call of Juarez's very own Bound in…

Boy, what a game! Been through plenty of Western games already, and somehow this one was just sitting in my library collecting dust. Finally gave it a go — and man, once it starts rolling, it really gets fun. The shooting’s crisp, the pacing hits just right, and that plot twist absolutely nailed it. Didn’t expect much at first, but this one’s got style, attitude, and that classic Western swagger that’s hard to beat. Easily one of the best Westerns out there — glad I got to experience it for…

Well of the most well crafted and intentionally designed first person shooters of the last 15 years. It hits all the Spaghetti western tropes and story beats, has a great arcade like pacing and feels satisfying to complete within just 4-7 hours of gameplay that has easy replayability. This is one of those games I pirated back in highschool and ended up buying twice between console and PC. With that being said I still boot this up every few years, it's that good.

CALL OF JUAREZ GUNSLINGER This game is the most recent title in the Call of Juarez series, a journey through the stories that shaped the myth of the Old West, told by someone who lived through every bullet… or at least claims he did. The character turns each memory into a legend, mixing facts, exaggerations, and pure imagination while the world around us shifts according to his narration. It’s a western where the truth matters less than the way it’s told. The visual style gives the…

This game is a hidden gem. I bought it without knowing anything about it, and it ended up being one of the best games I’ve ever played. The unique comic-style graphics mixed with a cowboy vibe are amazing. The gameplay gives you a constant dopamine rush, especially when you kill enemies back to back, and the XP points popping up in the middle of the screen just add to that feeling. What I really liked about the story is how they included real stories of actual criminals from history. I won’t…

The story takes a very different approach compared to the previous two games. Instead of following a conventional narrative like the first game or the character driven story of Bound in Blood, Gunslinger is presented as a collection of short stories told by Silas Greaves, an aging bounty hunter recounting his past adventures to patrons in a saloon. The stories are episodic, with some being connected while others are more standalone, and they revolve around Silas meeting and hunting some of the…

This game is such an underrated gem. The whole idea of the story being narrated by two guys talking in a saloon is the coolest idea ever to me, and I love when certain things are exaggerated or played twice, one the way Silas tells it and one the way Ben tells it. The combat is MUCH better on hard difficulty, and it is just so fun. There aren't too many tanky enemies except for bosses, and I love any game where a headshot is almost always a guaranteed kill. I'm not even finished with the story,…

The only Western shooter where the level design depends entirely on how much whiskey the narrator has consumed. You play as Silas Greaves, an old bounty hunter telling tall tales in a saloon in exchange for free drinks. The game features an "unreliable narrator" mechanic: if Silas says, "Actually, there was a ladder there," a ladder literally falls from the sky. If he says, "Wait, I didn't die there," the game rewinds time. You are basically playing through a drunk man's lies, killing every…

A Fistful of Hours Despite it's short length, this is a fun little Western game that slaps from beginning to end. You're a gunslinger turned bounty hunter searching for vengeance in Mexico, the Rocky Mountains and haunted swamps. Shoot, blast and blow your way through waves of enemies, take out gangs of outlaws and meet iconic cowboys from the ages. Even though this has nothing to do with the other Call of Juarez titles, it's a fun little spin-off that's worth playing for the gunplay and voice…

It's a solid 'alright' on the first playthrough, because as it is a late 2000's console game, it has some obligatory collectible hunting shoved into it, and while the environments look fine, they lack much interactivity, making the act of level exploration not particularly rewarding or enthralling. The good: The way the game is built around a dynamic story is unique and engaging. The graphics and the audio are fantastic, and the gameplay is fun and satisfying. The bad: The campaign is short, about 4 hours. It personally didn't bother me, but some others will mind. The ugly: Too many quick-time events. Since the campaign is built around checkpoints (more or less frequent), the QTE can become a frustrating chore.
