One of the all-time great movies, stuffed with an embarrassment of riches, from the writing to performances to production design, cinematography and direction. Savage, melancholy, brilliant.

unlabelledView post →Sunset Boulevard still feels like a dream no matter how many times you watch- a surreal fever dream about the death of silent film & the industry that left it behind. It clearly inspired Lynch's Mulholland Drive, & in retrospect the 2 feel like a conversation across decades about Hollywood #filmsky

I saw a screening on the lot of "Sunset Boulevard" for a friend's birthday, sitting in the SAME screening room that Gloria Swanson watches a movie projected in within the film. Very weirdly meta. #SunsetBoulevard #SummerOfDarkness #TCMParty

unlabelledView post →All right, folks. Sunset Boulevard is a fabulous film but it's not an example of "first person past tense narrator dies in the end" The movie tells you right up front that it's the dead man's story, plus "first person" in the context of film is more or less nonsensical. I mean, I love you all, just.
