It is an action-RPG in which players fight enemies as a batch of bread that has been brought to life named Loaf. The developers aimed to create a game evocative of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, creating a similar visual style that merges two and three dimensional graphics. This bear's name is Axel and he's a member of the saver's guild, a group of heroes. A brawn over brains kind of guy, perfect for a some hypno~

unlabelledView post →The core components are all there - quests, characters, writing, battle mechanics - but they are held together by glue and a ribbon. Navigating the menu's is incredibly clunky, switching between WASD and arrow keys seemingly at random. The inventory is small and every time you get an item while it is full, you are forced to throw something on the ground, instead of just being able to decline the new item. I have gone through at least three major sequence breaks in the story, simply…

unlabelledView post →I really wanted to like this game and at the start I actually did, unfortunately the further in you get the more frustrations pile on with annoying bugs and bland combat. The writing is pretty charming but that's just not enough for me. Maybe I'll still finish it and rethink my rating then but for now I'm just feeling really dejected and unsure of that. Also, I know that the Early Girl time challanges are entierly optional but dear god they're implemented in a way that makes me wanna tear my…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So this game is half baked(pun intended) and I would say its 5.5/10. Dont get me wrong the story, art, and writing are all nicely done and probably a 8/10 with just those in factor... However. After playing the game 3 years after its release it is still fiiiiiiiilled with bugs that just make playing it feel janky as hell. The bugs include invisible enemies, missing animations, getting stuck in objects, menus freezing up till you enter a new area and they reload, menu badges and weapons just not…

unlabelledView post →Like a lot of other people in the reviews I REALLY wanted to like the game and found myself having an incredible time the first couple of hours, but after you get the 2nd party member, the game basically goes to ♥♥♥♥ in the balancing. I was honestly in awe at how fast the game went from relatively polished and balanced to a buggy mess, like it feels like they stopped testing the game after the first major boss. The UI starts to implode on itself locking you out from healing, upgrading…

I hope your day is filled with joyful vibes, I send love and positivity your way 💛☺️
unlabelledView post →A game that starts off gorgeously whimsical and charming but unfortunately appears to be *ahem* half baked in it's implementation. Controls don't feel natural, the damage you deal and receive doesn't level well, and bugs. Not what you'd expect from something that's so visually pretty. I wish they could have done more with it, it's a shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Born of Bread is an adorable, quirky little RPG with a lot going for it and some very noticeable things working against it. I completed most everything in it, enjoyed my time with it but here and there I kept coming up against small annoyances or frustrations. Unfortunately what made them stand out was probably the great time I was having otherwis; so that when something popped up it'd be like taking a nice jog and then stubbing your toe before building back up to speed and whanging your knee…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Much like the protagonist the game feels half baked, the exploration, characters and dialogue are great but theres so many bugs that either annoying or gamebreaking and forces you to restart from your last save. it gets a 5/10 but if they ever come around to fix the bugs, its an easy 7 or 8 and worth it If you do get this game make sure you save every chance you get

unlabelledView post →I've realized that I enjoyed Born of Bread so much cuz it was exactly the game I've been looking for recently: a strange game that has an odd cast of characters that you come to love! I hope to play more games like this, it was so fun! Also, the fact that the baker loves his bread son is beautiful 🥹
unlabelledView post →I wanted to like this. I'm pretty sure everyone wanted to, at first. But it's clear this game wasn't sufficiently tested before launching due to the sheer number of bugs, inconsistencies, and balance issues. Tl;dr play Bug Fables. A list: -Action commands are extremely inconsistent with a keyboard. I had to switch to controller halfway through due to it having very precise spacebar timing and me having a mechanical keyboard. -There are, functionally, only ~4 enemy attacks that are reskinned…

unlabelledView post →This game should be so good! This is a polished paper mario that's good. So why can't you just fix your bugs. A year later and defend and switch are still broken. If you defend, you give the enemies an extra turn because they attack immediately upon selecting the action, they still attack when they normally do that round, it is broken and has been since launch. A core ability has been broken to the point of nonexistence since launch. switch merely makes you skip your turn. this has been this…

unlabelledView post →If I could give this a mixed review I would, the game has a lot of charm, the comedy is pretty solid and the music is great but the game really falls short in the combat department which realistically should be the part with the most focus and polish. At the time of writing the review I'm not terribly far into the game, but 6/7 hours in and I could go back to the first area and it would take just as long to beat the enemies as it did when I first started the game, levelling up doesn't really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Born of Bread is a game that ostensibly is Paper Mario, but unfortunately has far too many small cuts and blemishes here and there to make it a proper experience, and apparently will not be getting any more fixes anytime soon. While the first few hours were enjoyable, the game showed its hand too quickly and revealed that the leveling systems were not built to scale up at a proper rate. Preemptive enemy strikes can deal half of your health even when blocking perfectly, and later game encounters…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the life of me I can't understand how this game has Very Positive reviews, because while it does shine in the presentation and music, every other area ranges from just okay to bad. The combat is incredibly dull and easy even on hard mode. While it tries to be distinct from its inspiration it ends up just boiling down to spamming your strongest moves which will be effective against the most enemies based on damage types. There's no meaningful way to interact with defense which just makes…

unlabelledView post →For reference, I Played on Hard Mode on Patch 3.2.4 If I could sum up the entire experience of what I thought of this game, it would be someone offering you a raisin cookie when you thought it was a chocolate cookie. Looks nice and appetizing from the exterior, but once you take a bite, the flavors reveal themselves. Oh and the cookie was half baked too. Positives of the Game + From previous reviews and patch notes apparently the game was released in a buggy state. Thankfully, as of Build…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Due to recently being gifted this game, I felt somewhat obligated to write something up after finishing -- it's the least I can do. However, I also got to thinking that there really aren't that many Paper Mario-esque RPGs, and this is the first one I played. A few may know that Paper Mario was actually my first video game (along with Tarzan, but that's beside the point). It's a game that planted a seed in my brain at a very young age that would slowly grow before fully blossoming around my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 18 hours of gameplay, the game randomly decided to stop recognizing my save game (save game is in the proper folder and still exists). I can handle the minor bugs that plague the game. I can handle the unbalanced combat, making the game incredibly easy. Once a game bug causes me to lose my save game, it enters the category of wasting my time. I can't recommend a game that has the chance for such a big bug.

unlabelledView post →Born of Bread is a wrap! Took 25 hours to beat. This was a fun little adventure! The game is lighthearted and joyful, the combat is fun, and I enjoyed the OST! It takes inspiration from Paper Mario, but does more than enough to differentiate itself and stand on its own two feet, it's a good time!

Also, the OST 🥹 by goodness, I've heard so many beautiful OSTs this year, it's amazing 😭
unlabelledView post →Next game is Born of Bread! I believe this is a Paper Mario inspired game! ngl I'm not 100% sure since I saw it on the Best Buy website and was like "ah, that looks cool" and bought it lmao (this is my decision making process for buying games 🤣) I think it'll be fun tho!

(npc's, world design, etc.) -Although the target audience is for 10 year olds. I enjoy it as a 25 year old who rarely play kids games. -Side quests actually helps you on your journey with many equipments and upgrades. Cons -Frequent minor bugs (A button doesn't work to block about 1 in 15 times or attack about 1 in 100…

unlabelledView post →Man, I would love to recommend this game, but I feel that the flaws it has only show up halfway through or later in the game. I got to a point where I kinda just finished it out of obligation. A sort of sunk-cost fallacy. "I've come this far, might as well keep going." If there was something in between a simple yes or no for these reviews, I would select it, but I gotta try and think of the perspective of you, dear reader, and generally, I wouldn't recommend this game to a lot of people.…

unlabelledView post →Pro's lots of jokes and puns "think paper mario but as one big comedy skit" charming looks and character designs low price Con's combat system is clunky with some features outright not working later battles just devolved into spamming AOE's and recovering mana, repeat the timing on some of the blocks seems really out of sync with the animation and the badge that shows you the window appears out of sync as well it is really hard to take to story seriously, the comedy is so constant…

unlabelledView post →Like most of the other negative reviews, I really, really wanted to like this game-- however, I have to agree with all of the (better listed out) complaints below. I ran into my first hard-lock bug (example: using my controller, I pressed a button to read a statue/sign and was then trapped in a read-only bubble of text that I could not exit out of no matter what I tried. I closed the game, reloaded.) After I re-loaded from this bug, I realized that I hadn't saved for a hot second and lost over…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been craving for a paper mario like for so long and this one, THIS ONE, this is the one. It's got heart, it's got soul, it's got charm out the butt, it's got the writing, it's got fun battle mechanics, it's got exploration, it's got legit reasons why you can't fall into water (bread can't get soggy), I LOVE IT. If you like the golden ages of paper mario but want more bread puns, GET THIS GAME. if you don't like bread puns, STILL GET THIS GAME, but like skip the dialogue i guess?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly I have to not recommend this game Aside from the small bugs (animations being stuck, attacks that do not trigger the parry phase), big bugs (enemy attacks that do not end and have you reset the game and probably lose some progress), the game has poor design choices: - A combat system based on attack types and elements that increase or decrease the damage you take or make, but can make you end up on a combat where you can't make damage to enemies if you don't have the propper attacks…
