Developer Stress Level Zero
Boneworks is a 2019 first-person shooter virtual reality game developed and published by Stress Level Zero. The game is designed to be entirely physics-based, with the player controlling a full virtual body that responds not just to the player's real-world input but also to obstructions in the game world. In Boneworks, players take on the role of Arthur Ford, a rogue cybersecurity director who escapes into an… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

60 of 63 · most liked firstone of the more impactful moments in VR for me was realizing I could shoot myself near the end of Boneworks. I'd spent so long in the game that I genuinely hesitated, usually if the immersion isn't right you get bored and try things sooner.
unlabelledView post →When I think of my memories of other games they feel like memories of playing a game. When I think of my memories of Boneworks and other VR titles they feel like memories of being in a place.
unlabelledView post →Oh my gosh yeeees. The only other game I can remember that has done that is Boneworks
unlabelledView post →I'm still having trouble picking a VR game to give a 5/5 review score. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about going back to HL Alyx or Boneworks.
unlabelledView post →I still feel my favorite VR game is Boneworks, and nothing has topped it for me. Not even Alyx. But the real killer app of VR is VRChat and the weird denialism of this fact doesn't sit well for me. I'm sure a big percentage of VR users bought a headset and it's basically "$1000 VRChat machine."
unlabelledView post →Anyone that enjoyed Half-Life Alyx and hasn't played Boneworks owes it to themselves to give it a try. To me, that game was the real "Half-Life 2 of VR." I adored that weird first playthrough. #blutoid
unlabelledView post →finally, Boneworks has a challenger for "VR game most likely to make you throw up" I'm so excited about putting my VR legs to the ultimate test
unlabelledView post →The HL VR game was good and Boneworks too but there hasn't been a game with wide appeal since, just niche stuff like sims.
unlabelledView post →I am live right now playing my favorite VR Game of all Time: Boneworks!! Please come on by! It will be a great time! youtube.com/live/S6qsFsO...
unlabelledView post →So it’s a VR game about being in VR software, I’m sure nothing will go wrong and everything will be fine! Playing Boneworks! #Gaming #Twitch #Furry #Vtuber #Vsky twitch.tv/ShadeFawks
unlabelledView post →Still holding out hope for a good VR sandbox mode in S&Box... it'd be nice to have "VR Gmod" but without the limitations of being as small as Bonelab/Boneworks, or a 20 year old game engine.
unlabelledView post →I'm still pissed that Jacksepticeye called Boneworks the best VR game and then made a 20 minute video of him messing around in what's basically the hub and DIDN'T PLAY A SINGLE LEVEL OF THE CAMPAIGN
unlabelledView post →Favourite games list so people people 1. Ocarina of time 2. Boneworks 3. Beat saber 4. Ultrakill 5. Dark souls 1 Others: Btd6, A hat in time, SM64, Mario odissey, generally any zelda game, yokai watch games, clone hero
unlabelledView post →There’s nothing like the first time you're about to fall off something high up in Bonelabs/Boneworks. You just look for the nearest thing to grip on to for dear life. Gives me fucking heart attack, no other game gives me that feeling honestly
unlabelledView post →tbh i feel like big publishers dont realize just how tight VR ports of old can be. Like Crysis VR is not far off from being on the same tier as games like Half-Life Alyx or Boneworks. Call of Duty 2 would be a good budget VR game
unlabelledView post →I wonder what the creators of that game think of Persona 3, or Boneworks, or Red dead redemption 2, or lisa the painful, or darkest dungeon, or fear and hunger, or omori, or any other game with themes of self sacrifice or losing control over ones own body, and or themes of self harm in media at all.
unlabelledView post →Boneworks is officially the first VR game I've completed! Great game and I got to climb this ladder from hell at end!
unlabelledView post →Video series idea for my channel: "Syrsly Kinda Knows [topic discussed]" I discuss things I'm knowledgeable about and don't mind sharing. I could cover things like the history of VR, how game physics work (including Boneworks), and how to make stuff like 3D print molds, responsive websites, etc.
unlabelledView post →I’ve been loving listening to the Boneworks and Bonelabs OSTs again, it’s been a long time since I’ve played either of those games but imo they’re still incredible and haven’t been topped by another VR game since. Turn Around, Don’t Fence Me In and Opera De Ossium being some of my fav tracks. :D
unlabelledView post →You guys should come on by to the stream today ! I'm playing my favorite VR game of all time, which is Boneworks!! It's got insane sandbox physics and overall just an amazing game! youtube.com/live/HOebStP...
unlabelledView post →FINALLY found a VR game that can instill the same fear of heights and sense of vertigo as Boneworks did for me during its "HUGE GEAR CLIMB" section Surprisingly, it's a racer. It's called GRIP: Combat Racing, and the way the speed combines with the verticality and quick gravity switching hurts GOOD
unlabelledView post →HL Alyx is a great game. Boneworks is a VR staple.
unlabelledView post →I appreciate what Boneworks did but, I really, really don't like it as a game. I still think Alyx feels like the pinnacle of VR although it does feel like that competition is finally beginning to heat up.
unlabelledView post →Boneworks probably still has the best soundtrack in any VR game, they did not need to go that hard but damn
unlabelledView post →3. Boneworks is I think probably the quintessential VR game, and has a standard that even Bonelab couldn't hold up to. Still waiting for something to come along and replace it, although I'm not sure if anything ever will.
unlabelledView post →I don't even think HL:A v Boneworks is really a case of AAA v indie here, it's more about a difference in design goals. HL:A is deeply interested in making the experience feel smooth and immersive. Physics-based melee feels so janky that they used a "VR game" framing device to justify that feeling.
unlabelledView post →From my Linux VR experience: If the game is in Unity, it tends to run pretty well. If it isn’, oof ouch my eyes. This affects Alyx, but also the Steam Home. Bonelab and Boneworks run pretty fuckin smooth tho. Anyways I hope that they address it cuz I prefer to have a Windows free househol.
unlabelledView post →I still very much consider Half Life to be a banger. Especially the Black Mesa remake. I think my main issue with Alyx is that it came out after Boneworks. A game that, if you don't get sick playing it, is superior in all aspects of physics and immersion.
unlabelledView post →We got HLAlex, Boneworks (fumbled the sequel), and Beatsaber (easily my favourite game of all time) and, uhhhhhhh, one million piles of bullshit
unlabelledView post →its BONEWORKS the first game
unlabelledView post →Any FMV game, of course... but aside from those, I really like Boneworks' use of footage. It was really well done for the VR medium at the time and holds up well so far. Yes, I know you mentioned the game already, but that's the main game I noticed real people in recently without it being a FMV game
unlabelledView post →Why do people find it hard to define what an immersive sim is? Its just a game built around having multiple solutions to a problem typically using dynamic systems. Boneworks Gloomwood Dishonored And the like all fit very nicely into this box and people try to over complicate it so much.
unlabelledView post →if there's a game I'd wish I played again for the first time it's Boneworks. I wish I was able to play it with the setup I have now
unlabelledView post →I nerded it up for you 😁 Bonelab is a 2022 video game developed and published by American studio Stress Level Zero. It is a sequel to the 2019 game Boneworks. The player controls an outcast that escapes death and explores experimental worlds in a research lab in MythOS.
unlabelledView post →Y'all didn't know there was a contest for Best Song for a VR Game, but there was, and this dude Michael Wyckoff won with this banger for the Boneworks handgun trial: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uarj...
unlabelledView post →I played so much of this thing last night. Half Life Alyx might be like a top 3 coolest game experience I've ever had. Been playing flawlessly through steam link. Also grabbed Boneworks and downloaded Prey, Hitman, and Tetris effect connected.
unlabelledView post →Just played #Boneworks for the first time and HOLY FUCK This has immediately cemented itself next to HLA as a "must play #VR game" I spent like 20 min in the main menu room messing around It took me another half hour to get through the tutorial bc I was too busy giggling while messing around
unlabelledView post →Man for a game that as far as I can tell heavily marketed its mod support the mods, mod tools, what modders can do with the tools is incredible basic simple and boring in Bonelab. Barely anything looks all that intresting to try imo. #blutoid #mods #gamemods #VRgames #bonelab #boneworks
unlabelledView post →Boneworks and obviously half life alex, also Pavlov is also really fun if you like multiplayer shooters. And if you like extraction survival games, try out into the radius. The 2nd game came out as well but it's still in early Access and very buggy but the 1st game is still great.
unlabelledView post →Steam(continued) Vive: Boneworks Meta: Oculus quest 2: Arizona Sunshine 2 Sony PS4: Titanfall 2 PS5: Dead Island 2(it IS awful, but I had a lot of fun, sorry) Board game(I said loose rules): Zombicide
unlabelledView post →✧ω✧🕺🕺🕺 I really loved that part of the game from the thumbnail in Boneworks (idk if there's any minute differences in LabWorks, but I could jive in that room for longer if the ravers didn't aggro)
unlabelledView post →Well Neon Revolt was a game that came to me in a dream, its gonna be inspired by games like Dying Light 1 and 2, Detroit Become Human, Stray, Cyberpunk 2077, SIGNALIS, Boneworks/Lab etc, its not gonna be a vr game though.
unlabelledView post →Boneworks VR ep 8! I love this game, still my number 1 favourite VR experience! youtu.be/7CxdvXONg5M #youtube #boneworks #vr #boneworksVR
unlabelledView post →It’s hard to think that would happen. I guess Unrecord is same thing as Kane & Lynch 2. Which is “Nice aesthetic, shame about game” scenario I’m sure that VR shooters (HL: Alyx, Boneworks) are the choice makes more sense
unlabelledView post →Oh my god #boneworks the #VR game is already amazing, and I haven't even pressed "New Game" yet, I've just been screwing around playing with the physics in the start-game menu-rooom for 20 minutes. You can put a coffee cup on the end of a crowbar and kinda jiggle it around like spinning plates. Too much for Quest users, but I can see me wasting all weekend on this now. Easily. And I haven't even pressed start.
unlabelledView post →Well Boneworks I’m told is the vomiting simulator specifically. It’s not the headset for that game.
unlabelledView post →Boneworks is legitimately very good, as is half-life alyx. There was a Walking Dead game I didn't finish only because it had weird issues with the Quest controls uh... Oh! No Mans Sky (minus flying, grab a controller for that) was AMAZING, the sense of scale is incredible
unlabelledView post →Half life alyx is probably the better game, but playing Boneworks for the first time whilst only 13 remains as one of the most mindblowing / important gaming experiences I've ever had in my life. Nothing has given me that same feeling since and it's the main reason I still prefer it over HLA.
unlabelledView post →still thinking about boneworks all these years later. what a game. what a vibe. #boneworks
unlabelledView post →Just saw someone say Boneworks isn't very impressive and it's just normal video game physics. Are the video games in the room with us right now bc I'd love to play them.
unlabelledView post →That game was so good and the modding scene was crazy. HLA and Boneworks alone made getting a VR headset worth it
unlabelledView post →Stream tonight at 9pm EST!!!! Not exactly sure yet! Torn between Deadlock or Phasmophobia with friends or might revisit a VR game like Boneworks or finally play Half Life Alyx. Dunno yet
unlabelledView post →Boneworks is another game with big trespasser vibes imo
unlabelledView post →Forgot to post the poll here on Bluesky, but I forgot to plan a game for spooky month, so I'm letting y'all pick a VR game for me to play. It won't be super spooky, but it will get us in the mindset! 1) Boneworks 2) Arizona Sunshine 3) Metro Awakening Reply your choice below! o7
unlabelledView post →The more I look at videos about MiSide the more I'm convinced the whole game is just Boneworks for horny weaboos.
unlabelledView post →example recently, Bonelab, a VR sibling game to Boneworks (a bit like GMod is to Half-Life) absolutely awful to play seated
unlabelledView post →Alright, since my first choice of game can't run on Linux, I'm getting stuff set up to try and stream in VR. I've been meaning to actually get through Boneworks, I enjoy the half life esque vibe it has. And why not stream it so I will actually finish it. Now to just get stuff set up to see chat
unlabelledView post →Assuming "second life 2" is slang for VRChat, there's other apps like Resonite, same vain as VRChat... and then some more game-like stuff, like HL Alyx, Rec Room, Blade & Sorcery, other rhythm games, and video players like BigScreen. You also have great puzzle games and Boneworks mods and VR mods.
unlabelledView post →idk how to think about the upcoming updates for BONEWORKS and BONELAB, BONEWORKS is becoming a $40 game with new content, MarrowSDK 2 (including compat for BONELAB mods) meanwhile we don't know about any new BONELAB features, i just hope that theres a "DLC" or mounting system that
unlabelledView post →I missed this yesterday, but there's also a VR bundle from Cloudwalkin Games 70% off for 2 more hours alongside RPG Creation Kit. This bundle is one of my favorite physics frameworks for Boneworks style physics in Unity and rivals the best Unreal framework I've tried.
