Titles like Elf Princess Rane, Shinesman, FF: Legend of the Crystals, and Birdy the Mighty (OVA) were delightful, bite-sized experiences that made for a fun movie night.

neutral · AI labelView post →Film fave: BIRDY (1984) Alan Parker adapts William Wharton's novel (also stunning) about friendship & isolation. Matthew Modine & Nicholas Cage are brilliant as boyhood pals. Reunited as two damaged souls, one believes he's bird, one scarred by war. Powerful, emotional, must see! #filmsky 📽🎥🎬🎞
positive · AI labelView post →Not sure if the picture issue has been fixed... Test... Test... *taps mic*. Birdy Num-Num. Anyways, this is a great film by Renoir; definitely not talked about enough. It was pretty dark and gritty for the time, but he was often ahead of the curve... #filmsky #physicalmedia #criterion #jeanrenoir

Netflix's remake of Jane Austen's "Persuasion" was polarising, to say the least. People hated it & people loved it. But EVERYBODY loved this fucking song. I ADORE it.

neutral · AI labelView post →Today's recommendation is "Birdy", starring Matthew Modine and Nicholas Cage. This 1984 movie about two friends, one of which was obsessed with birds, and then loses his mind in Viet Nam and thinks he's a bird. It's really heartfelt, moving, and unique. I loved it. Stayed with me for years. #Movies

positive · AI labelView post →Tonight we watched Catherine Called Birdy. The cast really sold this one, it was maybe the best thing I've seen Bella Ramsey in. A good mix of funny and dramatic moments highlighted by a modern soundtrack. A solid coming of age movie.

Cage allegedly had teeth removed for his role, and extras include rare items from Modine's scrapbook. powerhousefilms.co.uk/products/birdy-bd

neutral · AI labelView post →BIRDY (1984) was Cage’s first big dramatic lead role and damn. he killed it. the movie was too long and kind of dragged at parts and the whole anti vietnam war message was kind of undercut by the main plot which is (i kid you not) about a boy who fucks a bird

positive · AI labelView post →What recent-ish film or television adaptation of a book pissed you off the most? Mine was probably Catherine, Called Birdy, mostly because the changed ending really showed how little the director actually understood the story and its historical context.
