Combat is more arcade-like than in modern war FPS; enemies dodge and strafe quite a lot, and if they're wearing body armor it takes several bullet hits to break their armor before you can kill them. Levels can be quite large, with many open outdoor areas, although moving through levels…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is really hard to actually Recommend the game which was fairly mediocre even 10 years back. On the other hand, we live in the world where even mediocre titles from year 2005 are looking more original, than so many "new" releases... This review is not an invintation to buy the game - even on the sale it may not worth the sport. Yet I think that Bet on Soldier is worth to be remembered, if not for gameplay, then at least for amount of catchy features, that actually worked in the game. While…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good old school FPS, I found it entertaining and original. The gameplay with the idea of the exoskull armor is cool and allows the player to play with different styles from the hardcore killer rushing everywhere and killing as much opponents as possible to earn money and repair the armor to the complete tactitian playing with support from an ingenior and progressing in the game while being repaired by him. The good variety of weapons and the old school graphics make this FPS a must play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old school, brutal, and manly all of these describe this game. One of my favorite games from back in the day. Was hoping for Steam to get this game and it did to bad its not the most up to date version. BOS had a very unique take on the FPS genre and honestly as a game dev I plan to 1 day make a game very similar to this on a new engine with better graphics. Anyways buy this game its lots of fun if you like innovative game play and lots of manly man testosterone, and battle mechs don't forget…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An attempt at FPS with a twist, but ultimately a boring failure. Yet another take on "war as entertainment", yet another take on "family man's family gets murdered and man drafted as gladiator". What I enjoyed Customise your loadout before every mission, with a not-bad variety of weapons from SMGs to assault rifles and shotguns and miniguns, rocket launchers and flamethrowers, and an optional riot shield. Gain money from kills and spend it at field stations on ammo and repair for your…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Initial impressions - sound design is meh. Animations and graphics are dated, as to be expected since the game was released in 2005. Controls are weird; if you've been running and let off the W key, you will sometimes stop immediately and other times you will slide about 5 feet. This seems to happen no matter what terrain you are on. some of the special powers are also stupid. Guns that blind you whenever you get hit seem like a cool idea right when you start, but in order to get your vision…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty solid Indie FPS ! Bet on Soldier is throw back to FPS games of the 90s.The plot is,think Running Man with guns and -Arnold Schwarzenegger lol As you kill peeps you get cash to spend on Ammo,Armor,Grenades and so on and so on.I also like that to even save you need to spend $400 just to save your game !! The AI is pretty ok but your troops can be a pain in the buttz at times getting in your way...As for the controls its your standard FPS set up so if you are familiar with that genre then…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The voice acting is even worse than Men of War, but the gameplay is quick, crazy, and there is a fair share of customization to be done when it comes to your inventory. The story is cheesy but the setting is interesting. It is worth mentioning that this is actually a sequel of sorts to Iron Storm as well. Graphics were pretty good for the time and overall the game is great entertainment for its price. Despite its age the game works very well, which is an interesting point given that when it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You know, it's a great game if you can look past moments where you feel like it's incomplete. Definitely worth the money. Underrated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game, great story, deff worth the price. the game play is great
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. And works flawlessly on WIndows 8.1.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a tragic mismatch between idea and gameplay. The whole "Bet on Soldier" concept and money for kills idea would have been fun with arcade-style, DOOM type shooting. Unfortunately, they opted for a more realistic style of gun handling and movement.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BoT... a game that released so long ago... back in 2005 with the likes of FEAR, Half Life 2, DOOM 3... This was a game I was quite interested in but unfortunately, it had nasty anti-piracy protections which messed up my PC back then. I decided to pass on it but I did played the demo and I recall having a good time with this game. Now, jump 13 years later (2018), this game truly haven't aged well. The fun factor is still there though if you can look past the dated visuals. The music is fairly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a near perfect masterpiece of FPS action with a new twist! Betting! I'm happy to say betting works, and works well, and adds a whole new level of detail to a tired genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like Iron Storm alot despite its flaws so i bought this. Technically its way more accomplished than its spiritual predecessor, looks quite nice. However amazingly the gameplay is way less fun. The main reason being that the shooting just doesnt feel...right. Theres a lack of weight and feedback thats hard to describe. In Iron Storm even the default assault rifle was a bulky loud monstrosity that pushed you and the enemies around when being shot, likewise with most of the other weapons. Here…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If it weren't for the rediculous difficulty spikes, this would be an okay game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perhaps the most hardcore shooter of my childhood. Now I understand why I couldn't beat it as a kid. Bet On Soldier. The first encounter with a huge walking mech (exoskeleton in the game) against an automatic weapon is scary at first, but then shooting down three enemies? Easy. Bet On Soldier. Paid rare saves on the map. Sometimes you have to save them, meaning you have to go a little further, then come back and save. Bet On Soldier. During a shootout, you run out of ammo and have to search…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been waiting for this game to come to Steam for a long, long time. It's one of my guilty pleasures, as the game itself isn't very polished. Expect laughably bad voice acting, a kinda dumb story explained in cutscenes, and less-than-tight controls on the bad side. But underneath the thin layer of grime shines one of the most interesting shooters out there. Everything in the game costs the player money (in-game currency, not real). Bullets, armor repairs, grenades, and even saving the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot to like, the cheesy setting makes no sense but is just the perfect setting for a video game. The economy based warfare changes how you approach battles, every shot you fire and take costs you money so you have to think about the long game. the BOS fights are a cool concept, but unfortunately they don't work with the movement and shooting this game has. Missions start to get incredibly frustrating and the BOS fights even more so with horrible 'confusion' effects and blindness or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game had so much potential and it is sad to see it wasted. Graphics may not be too appealing at first glance, but this can be forgiven - after all this game is over ten years old and I would dare to say it aged quite well. Story is flat and we all know it from American action movies - ex soldier, loses family, needs to have his revenge. Does it sound familiar? However, this also can be forgiven. Mechanics are often choppy, this can be forgiven too. However, I stopped playing after nearly 3…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad game this one. It might have gone down in history books as a mediocre game but it's ambition is quite obvious as soon as you start playing it some more. You play the role of a soldier in a all-out war on planet Earth. There is a twist to this though and that is that war has been made into a sport with bets and thus there are components such as making bets against mid to end level-boss opponents - and then trying to win those bets - while doing actual missions that are mostly 'go…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clearly not the best FPS ever, but it was fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pleasingly surprised, didn't expect such a unique concept. Got that fun early 2000s fps gameplay. One issue is that the stairs are really slow to go up. Other than that, quite fun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not particularly enjoyable with the stiff controls and seemingly unfair difficulty spikes.

The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over either Eurasia or East Asia, but to keep the very structure of society intact." - George Orwell - 1984. This is basically what this game is all about. You live in the world where first world war never ended. Even more so, there is a Running Man-like tv show that allows people to watch the battles and bet on their favourite…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perfect old school game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not even worth the dollar and change I paid for it, this game is hot garbage. I can't fault the game graphics for being old, but the whole game is ugly and muddy looking. The weapon and character models and animations are all barf. The sound effects are grating and the ambient noises frustratingly repetitive. The player character pants non stop from regular walking around (there is no sprint). The only positive for the sound is the laughably horrible voice acting. In spite of the whole betting…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I enjoy the game for it's faults, it's not really worth playing unless you want a few laughs. And I do mean a few. Fun's over after the first level. Anyway, now to the real review. *ahem*... this game's ####ing broken Countless times, the game has soft locked for me. And those who have played the game know exactly what the hell I'm talking about. I'll give an example for those looking to get this: So, you have what I'll refer to as "Special Characters". These special characters…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like the concept and the gameplay kinda feels like Halo 1, but the later BoS aren't fun at all. They flashbang all the time and there is no throwing animation so you also don't see the grenade flying, but still get flashed all the time so I have to fire blind at them ALL THE TIME. Also the hitboxes are terrible especially with the mech, you basically have to stand right in front of the enemy to hit or your bullets will hit the wall.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting idea, poor compability and gameplay. So, what's special about BoS? That you earn money and can choose weapons, helpers, armor etc. All that is because people are paying (betting) on soldiers - who will win the fight. Interesting. However, game's flaws are way too big to recommend it... here's some game features: - voice act is just average - annoyingly constructed cutscenes - text (subtitles) sometimes not matching voiceact - average graphics... seems kind of poor - also there are…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fair, it does make me think of Ship Breaker, or this older game called Bet On Soldier, it was on the PS2 I think and it was was one where you were an imprisoned solider force to fight and pay off a debt with your winnings.
unlabelledView post →In Bet on Soldier, you fight in a 80 years old war and participate in the B.O.S., a league for soldiers for deathmatches, which people can follow through the television. You chose to do this, because your wife got murdered by 3 people, 2 of them are part of the B.O.S, and you want to revenge her. However, your past is also catching up to you through out the missions, and the battlefield also holds secrets. I really like the idea of this game. You get a basic shooter, with simple missions,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I must have gotten this in some bundle, and as ancient (read Half-Life 2 era) first-person shooters go, it's honestly not the worst. That said: 1) The shooting is not all that fun. Is there some way to zoom in with my sniper rifle? Because honestly, what's the point otherwise. Not nearly enough weapon variety either. 2) The story makes no sense. Am I performing missions to fight against some shady paramilitary organization? Or am I participating in some dystopian death match TV show? I can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game might seem interesting and casually fun in the first two hours but just you wait... some missions 60-70% into the game will make you suffer, even on the lowest difficulty. So it's a hard game, that ain't too bad. No it isn't, but the way it's made makes it feel cheap and unfair. The tanks in this game are crazy, they can shoot at you every 2 seconds and deal massive damage. You can only defeat them with a mech, so ok, once you know and look up fast routes to the mech or copy a…

It is what I like to call my "1 Hour Playtime Reviews Because My Steam Library Has Gotten Stupid Big and I Don't Want to Regret How I Spend My Money Challenge." Oh no... I'm starting to regret the decision on how much time I'm dedicating to a game. I know, some have said an hour is not enough time to judge a game. I say nay, my friends, an hour is more than enough time to realize the folly of your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is horrible, the fact you have to spend in game currency to save is obsurd. On top of that you can only save once at a save point. The AI is dumb, especially on escort mission. I had an engineer run outside a building and get killed only for me to restart back to last save point which are far between. The whole premise is supposed to be about a game show, but it is a campaign with the boss battles. These boss battles are where it turns into a games show. The worst part about it is you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An original concept, a mediocre plot, lack of good gameplay mechanics and poor technical design make for a very bland and frustrating shooter. What IS really fun: - idea about a world in which wars are televised and you can bet your buck on some soldier-murderer that fights other of its kind - some weapon and vehicle designs (this game takes place in the same universe as the horrible Iron Storm game) - power armors What sucks really bad here: - you reload weapons not on ammo basis but on a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A shooter that is functional. The Running Man like story sounds appealing but in the end is thin as paper. The technique aged pretty bad. I can´t say anything bad about the gameplay but it´s old. And it looks and plays that way. It far less a triple A game when it came out and today it got even worse. I would definetely not pay the 7,99 for it. On a sale you get it under 2 bucks. For that price you might consider buying it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WORTH BUYING! Old but Gold. Worth being played if you like this kind of games!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly haven't played it, but it cost me forty cents so i'm not really complaining.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bet On Soldier could have been a good game, but terrible design choices destroyed any potential this game had. The issues range from insane difficulty spikes due to rocket launcher enemy spam, dumb friendly AI that needs to be babysitted, bad boss fights to weak and unsatisfying gunplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think this game aged so well. Mouse movement is very floaty, Graphics - too hard to see things clearly. The gameplay doesn't feel satisfying at all. FoV is very small, makes my head hurt instantly.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game, old but good, worth buying during steam sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda on the fence with this one, the main idea of the game is to complete the 25 missions which takes about 20-30mintues each and you get money for kills and there are mini boss fights or BOS battles that are timed and earn you a large cash bonus and increase your BOS ranking if you kill them within the time otherwise you lose the cash from your current balance then you also get a large bonus after completeing a mission. The combat is semi good, the aim does not really work and is perma stuck…
