60 of 189 · most liked firstRandom Screenshots of my Games #7 - Battlezone 98 Redux. For you older gamers out there, I'm gonna take you back a bit today. Back in 1980 (four years before even I was born!), Atari released an arcade game called *Battlezone* that was one of the original popular FPS games. It looked like this: Almost 2 decades later, in 1998, Activision published their own version of the game, also called *Battlezone*. This was…
unlabelledView post →Don't be fooled by my recommendation, this is a fantastic game, and I would recommend it immediately if it weren't for one thing: the DRM is fundamentally broken. Denuvo somehow sold Rebellion on their snake oil scheme, so the game loads quite slowly. This did not, and still doesn't need to happen. I've even heard that it runs because of the DRM's requirements, which involve bypassing the computer's security itself, though I haven't experienced this for myself at the time of writing. Denuvo is…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It got this game for roughly 4 bucks and it turns out this is a surprisingly fun tank game! I played this with a controller and in PC Mode (NOT VR) and on easy, because I am relatively sure any difficulty above is balanced for multiplayer, . Despite the Arcadey optics and base gameplay the cockpit view, weapon and sound design make this game a amazingly fun game! This game has everything you'd want within a tank game. Base canon, HE (heat shots) version of that canon, where the ammo splits…

Anyhoo, this game is great! Play it on classic mode for the Tron vibe. And as this game is currently on sale, it's an absolute steal - it's practically free. Highly, highly recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quest 2 buyers: Touch Controllers don't work at all. You have to use the MOUSE and Keyboard to get past the calibration screen. It doesn't like using ps4 or shield gamepads with virtual desktop. It might work with the Xbox 1 S controllers, idk. If you have a solution, let me know. Until then, I can't recommend this to anyone wanting to play wirelessly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this on sale. Will not start in WMR for VR. It starts and I can hear the audio, but just a blank screen. On the PC it shows the window and everything is there and functioning. I choose Start in SteamVR, I choose it from the library after already being in SteamVR, etc. Nothing will get it to launch the game in VR on the HMD. Reverb G2, Core i9, 32GB DDR5 RAM, Nvidia 2070. All other games launch fine. Can't recommend even on sale because I can't use it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →During one hour I was not able to perform key binding. There are no keys binded, you have to do all by your self before game starts. I could not save binding and without most important key in the game (pause) it did not let me further. I have Thrustmaster hotas joystick, predator gamepad , T300 racing wheel - nothing works. So I can not evaluate game because I could not run it. For me it was simulator of frustration. I Definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Things to keep in mind when you play this game... There is a lives system, and if you run out, your run is over and you have to restart. Things that you unlock in your arsenal however are for keeps, so it's your Dead Cells/Binding of Isaac gameplay all over again only you don't need to restart whenever you quit - only when you run out of lives. I only ever played single player and here's the deal about that... DO NOT PLAY CONQUEST LEVELS. Enemies respawn ad infinitum and you'll never be able…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to love this game and they've now destroyed it. It's no longer offered on the quest store, for whatever reason...and they no longer support motion controls. Sure, I can get the game to run with Steamlink on my Quest 3...but you now have to use a controller (ie Xbox), which absolutely kills any reasonable expectation of immersion that was there. I hate to say it, because this game was one of the best I played...but do NOT buy this game unless the Devs decide to fix it and restore it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm primarily a fan of Battlezone 98 Redux and Combat Commander, but back in my day we actually had an old 386 with the DOS version of the original Atari Battlezone. So I still appreciate what this game attempts to do here. Overall, its a good and fun game. Movement wise it doesn't hold a candle to Battlezone 98 or CC, but it does do a great job with the cockpit view feeling very immersive to pilot the tank. The animated interior, being able to see the cannons outside reloading and swapping is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- Have other controllers unplugged before starting this game. - If you get black screen in vr headset, turn off dx12 in config launcher - If still not working, download vrperfkit https://github.com/fholger/vrperfkit - If still not working, set fsr to false in vrperfkit config file. - If still not working, set fsr to true, set applymipmapbias to false - If using ds4 check Playstation 4 controller option in steamvr controller settings Got around to playing this years later with a friend and this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →another great VR game I wish there were more like this very simple to pick up on. Great retro graphics and spot on controls and a lengthy campagin make this a must have VR users. Even better with Co-op and to top it off the original classic mode in VR i thought it would be something I would play only a little of but I enjoyed it way more then I thought I would.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is merely an okay game. Fun game for those new to VR and just looking for experiences. Sadly Rebellion made this game and a HD remake of 1998's Battlezone at the same time. If they had remade Battlezone 1998 into a VR game with an emphasis on competitive squad/team play, it would have been one of the best games to come out for the VR platform. But, instead, we got this..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If Skynet was a big fan of arcade machines Unusual futuristic roguelike set in world where neon lights and polygons define fashion, and the wars are waged with tanks that look just like the ones from the old arcade games. Landscapes are big metal wastelans built from simple geometrical shapes with hexagons at the base, containing nothing but big, somewhat open ares with wildly variable elevation, randomly arranged corridors and towers or spires, creating pretty complex and dystopian…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very sold game with or without VR, runs great, looks great, sounds great, has unlocks without being obnoxious, everything is done in-game from your tank's cockpit. Some things might be a bit obtuse if you never played a Battlezone game before or are not used to this type of game mode with limited lives and unlocks. Only complaints I have are that binding a HOTAS was harder than expected, and each keybind can only have one key assigned to it instead of two. Some might not like the mouse…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a lot of fun to be had with this game. Even in single player I enjoyed the game. But I do feel like the rogue like elements gets old very fast. Also the upgrade system I am not a big fan of. Goes in to suply place to get better guns, can't afford it. Saves up credits for the next suply place and the prices have gone up so I still can't buy new stuff. But the game is very well made and I wish I could play it in vr to get the full experience.

Maybe follow our curator reviews? Maybe not? You do you is all I'm saying. If you're playing this without a VR headset you're doing it wrong. Without VR you have a very challenging rogue-lite tank shooter that's a bit repetitive. In…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, they tried to reboot an old school tank combat title from the 80's. To put it bluntly, they've sold the tank part short. You pilot a variety of advanced, tank-like vehicles while blasting inferior, more traditional enemy tanks, as well as turrets and aircraft. This is all fine, except that it's very heavily in your favor. I've always felt the funnest dynamic of tank vs. tank is the slower, tactical approach with big, heavy-hitting, slow-reloading cannons. This is, more or less, what the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT: There is a workaround, put a shortcut to the dx11 version of the game (check your install folder) in your steam and only run through that. For some reason it lets me keep my keybinds that way and having it as a Steam shortcut lets you add your friends. Sadly, a workaround is not the same as the game being fixed so the review stays negative for now. Fantastic game. Do not buy it hoping for HOTAS support, sadly they removed the support shortly after putting it in and several websites…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy for VR. Denuvo really hurts the performance of this game. Tried a version with denuvo and without. MASSIVE DIFFERENCE. I got banned from the forums for mentioning this so I guess devs think that their customers are as retarded as them. Avoid Rebellion cucks plz!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this game is fun the balance is absolutely terrible. If you want to invest a ton of time (think 90+ minutes ea) into even "short" matches just to lose at the end anyways even on easy mode be my guest. You can also manage to hack every terminal to have a chance at decreasing enemy strength and have it not help you enough to do well. Aesthetically pleasing & gameplay good; still manages in totality a bad game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arcade Game, but in the cockpit... This game is exceptionally fun and visually appealing, in the idea of the games that we grew up on in the arcade room playing as the tank. And in how they changed the view to look and appeal to the current visual appeal that we see today in the games that are coming out. This is super fun with friends to play with as you take out all of the enemies that come across your cross-hair in here. This is something that I can come back to playing to on having fun or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 Having played this back when I had a PSVR, I thought this was a descent early VR game. A simple roguelike reamagine of the original arcade game, and one of the few roguelikes I actually like. Most of the time you die, it is your fault, but there are some times were RNG will screw you, like the placement and stock of shops that can make or break a run. Thankfully there are multiple difficulty options and 3 different map sizes. And there's also a VR recreation of that original game. Worth…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game for co-op with friends. The level generation tech is actually really impressive. We have played many rounds of this and the variety of maps and missions is great. Plays best with a simple Xbox controller but don't let that put you off, there is an amazing amount of content and polish here. Wish I had bought this earlier, a very satisfying experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't support occulus touch controller. Oculus store version does. Quite a trashy move.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you play coop in team and die during a tile-fight without lifes left to spawn, your cockpit just closes and you can stare at the options screen for the rest of the game, while you actually ARE ingame and can HEAR your team shooting and driving around you .....it lasts looong looong time. Developers never played own game and should stop any game development, if they don't understand what is wrong in such situation. Game is in fullscreen mode locked down to 60 Hz. To get higher FPS REALLY…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible control setup. Only bought for the classic version which uses 5 keys. Thought I could use my Saitek P2900 with the Saitek software and a profile created for the 5 keyboard keys. Game detects the controller and insists I have to set up every control button for the game. It's made worse by the fact It doesn't seem to save the key bindings. If say, I press "A" on the keyboard it's fine but If I press "A" on the controller, I'm taken to the gamepad configuration screen, even though they…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What I found here was a silky smooth vehicle shooter which was a blast in co-op. It's relatively simplistic but the run is structured well, and you get a sense of power increase. A little overpriced normally, you can get it on a deep discount and have some fun with your friends.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GOOD OLD SCHOOL ATARI ARCADE IN NEW MULTIMEDIA TRON LIKE EDITION :-) WARNING: THIS GAME LOOKS AND FEELS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IN VR AND IS REALLY ADDICTIVE =)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battlezone! IN VR!!! One of my all time favourite arcade games is now playable on my Quest 3! I loved the arcade cabinet, with it's immersive (for the time) tank gunner's sight attachment and twin stick tank like controls , but this is a whole new level of immersion. Expanded gameplay over the original, but the best part? You can also play the ORIGINAL!! In VR!!! That alone is a good enough reason to buy for me. Excellent!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfair at normal difficulty or above. Devs should be flogged and whipped
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A surprisingly deep arcade-style tank game. If you can push past the initial difficulty curve, the game is both fun and challenging.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My friend I play with said that if I post a review about the game and it gets 200 likes and 100 rewards, he'll buy me a bag of chips and a RTX 4090. So I'll leave this here.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been wanting this game for a while. It looked like the regular price for it is 34.99. It went on sale today for 3.84$ so I had to buy it. The reason I wanted it was because I really liked the old arcade battlezone game with vector graphics. I also like tank battle games and mech games for the same reason. The controls feel pretty good for this game. The controls are like pretty typical first person shooter style controls. You can key-bind the game the way you want. The graphics for this…

I have been playing this title since I first purchased it on PlayStation network for PSVR... the Non VR mode is great too. Great with a controller. even better with mouse and keyboard. All in all I love playing this game.. Even better is the jump in and out of the Co op experience. Start a campaign play for a round or 2 jump off.. And come back to where you last were on the map. Aslo works great with steam deck ( though the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like Battlezone! The VR is great for battlefield awareness and immersion (playing with keyboard & mouse here), but the game can also be enjoyed without VR in a more casual way. The Tron-like visuals are nice and don't age the way graphics attemting to be realistic do. Soundtrack and audio effects are also appropriate to the style of the game. The generated campaings are very nice, with some variety of per battlezone mission types and special events in between. Also the aspect of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battlezone (2016) attempted to revive a classic franchise by reinterpreting it as a multiplayer tank shooter against a horde of AI enemies in a procedurally generated world. However, the attempt to make it both a VR game and a regular game means it doesn't quite work in both, and the play mechanics are a bit... off. So this is a weak recommendation rating at best. As the "Commander", your task is to defeat the AI by travelling across a procedurally generated hex map, eventually reaching the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not at all like the old arcade game of old i once remembered from the good ole 1980's if thats what your looking for shop elsewhere.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's alright, but absolutely not worth $35
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great game to play co-op with your friends. It's a fast paced battle against enemy tanks and aircraft. The game involves a campaign that consists of many short missions and you have some choice about what missions you want to take on. You can upgrade your tank and weapons/defence at certain points during the campaign. The game ramps up in intensity gradually and ends with a challenging boss battle. Each campaign consists of a randomised mission board that you traverse in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm being harsh, I know, but as a VR game I feel this has become a letdown over time. I'm a VR vet of 3 years and have never enjoyed using a gamepad while in VR. It is easily one of the most immersion-breaking things a game can ask of me. Out of the 80 or so VR games I have, only two require a gamepad, and this is one of them. The game itself is pretty good! I enjoy the graphics, the setup, the oldschool-meets-newschool gameplay, but there is an incredible potential to use motion controls here…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good but challenging even on normal modes. If you liked and of the tanks in the Trom movies, you will love this game. Classic mode also.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY THIS FOR VR TOO MANY CONTROL PROBLEMS
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NO VIVE CONTROLS? FORCED TO USE KEYBOARD worst controls for VR that i have ever seen!! This should be a simple thing, but there i am juggling 2 vive controllers, and xbox controlles, vive head set, sound headset. its bad enough that you force us to use an xbox controller, then you force us to have a keyboard there too....because i have to hold "tab" to center my seat!?! refund and bad review for a simple game that should be simple to play...bad dev

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun arcade tank game, really need more players though. Got it on a steep discount, did not realise it's original price was soo high. For 3 squid, it's a great deal.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aesthetically okay but doesn't hit the same as Tank Universal. Main gameplay mode is a really ill-considered "roguelike" thing with boring upgrades. "Boss" zones are absolutely awful and take forever. Classic mode feels rotten with two analog sticks. Just completely unappealing except for the 2000AD bobble heads and even those are just kind of depressing in their own way
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very bad controls.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played both VR and flat, good game for both although I would like the VR version to have a graphic upgrade.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honesty? Battlezone was never my thing. But this modern re-imagining? It's really fun, both flat and VR. Definitely give this one a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is simply amazing - the feel of piloting tank in VR with neon visuals is something unique. There is enough enemy types and different weapons / abilities to keep every run fresh and you can play coop with other players. For a bargain price, this one is definitelly hidden gem.
