unlabelledView post →this morning i dreamed about a low poly 3d game adjacent to Spectre, which is a compelling solid shaded, very 1991 shareware reimagining of Atari's Battlezone. the game in my dream was more of an ecosystem game, however. i worked out the design and drew some notes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectre...
unlabelledView post →If the name sounds familiar....the game is based on the popular 1980 arcade game Battlezone! It was also remade from the ground up for modern consoles in 2016!
unlabelledView post →Don't like my chances but is there like a good meaty history of 3D modelling production processes anyone knows about? Something like 'here's how they did it in Battlezone and then here's how they did it in Mario 64 and here's how you do it on a 2026 triple-a game'.
unlabelledView post →Set Phasers for Fun! I got the Sega Star Trek machine at Pinball Hall of Fame (mostly) working. The audio is out, but the game is otherwise playable. It plays like a fast moving Battlezone, with more stuff to do.
unlabelledView post →The @l0pht.bsky.social got a Battlezone machine in 1995 when it was 15 years old. It was the first FPS arcade game! Now it's pushing 45 and needs repair. It got new resistors and a cleaning. Still work to be done however as it gets to the gameplay screen and no tanks show up including yours!

unlabelledView post →I’m a sucker for two stick tank controls and view port vector graphics. Battlezone arcade (1980) was epic. I played a lot of hours on the Atari 2600 version of Battlezone (1983) at home too. It didn't have the awesome vector graphics, instead using standard raster graphics, but still a fun game.

unlabelledView post →My mom had an early Mac all-in-one, that I would use for word processing. I'd also play Battlezone on the computers at Duke Labs where she worked - not the 98 remake, this was circa 1994, but what i'm guessing was the original Atari game ported by hand.

unlabelledView post →This game was ahead of it's time. Even now, it offers superior game play to some current games. There needs to be a battlezone series using the game engines of today.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is another one of those times I wish there was a neutral option. Battlezone II is a completely functional, competently designed game. The fusion of FPS and RTS works well, the interface is useful once you get used to it, the campaign is lengthy and there's a multiplayer suite, and it's generally stable and bug free. What the game lacks is soul. I grew up playing Rise of the Black Dogs on N64, unaware there was a PC version out there. I was able to snag a copy of the Gold Pack years later,…

unlabelledView post →35 years ago, Ocean was THE licensed game company. However, it did very, very occasionally publish an original title - like this 16-bit first-person shooter in which you drove a tank into combat, Battlezone-style. It was pretty fun - but not the sort of game Ocean was known for!

unlabelledView post →Although this game is has been around a long time, it still remains one of the few unique ones that blends FPS and RTS the way it does. This is truly enjoyable when playing in multiplayer in teams, where one commander can manage the RTS and team-mates handle battle on the ground.

unlabelledView post →As far as I can tell there was only one significant thing done to this game, better models/graphics. All the major complaints about the old version are still here. Bad AI, horrible pathfinding, sluggish controls, broken missions, etc. They didn't bother re-rendering the intro to a higher resolution. It just seems lazy. I can't recommend a game like this. It's the same clunker with a fresh coat of paint. Disappointing. Even after release, we were promised fixes and improvements. Where are they?…

unlabelledView post →Gameplay wise the game is fine, but the campaign missions are not well put together. What I've repeatedly ran into is the missions breaking on me because of something stupid. for example: Mission 6: You're suppose to keep your units back for a few attack waves before taking them to a location to destroy a building. If one of your units dies, the mission doesn't continue to the next phase and you're forced to restart. It fails you if you lose a builder unit you get later, but not for losing…

unlabelledView post →I will never stop being excited by Battlezone whenever I see it. This game felt like the future back in the 1980s!
unlabelledView post →I just came here to say I played BattleZone 1980 on PC with CGA 3 colour graphics back in the day, and it was the best and one of the first in the world first person shooter games out there. BattleZone Combat Commander carries on that legacy and does a pretty good job. Sure, it lacks that triple A polish that big studios have, but its fun for what it is. Nice story, nice graphics, nice gameplay too. Worth a go!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can be a single person snipping to running the whole campaign. One of the best core games ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not only is this a faithful recreation of an unusual, classic game, but I'd say it stands as a decent title by today's standards. The biggest problems are a lack of autosave and the janky pathing (same as the original), but the story, voice acting, music, and visual design of this game are all top notch. I'd recommend it even to people who don't have the Nostalgia Factor of having played the original. There are so few RTS+FPS hybrids out there, and while this is firmly a Jack of All Trades…

unlabelledView post →I've played both of the original games in the late 90's. I am grateful that they did the remakes. It's amazing how modern and outdated they are at the same time. The experience is definitely worth your 20 bucks. I wish they'd make a new game. With better missions (more base building and more synergy between base building and fighting.) The one mission where this game really shines is "fanning the fire". You have to build a base, but you also have to get outside and fight. Most of the other…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the old games on PC when I was a kid in the 90's. This game updates a lot of stuff so it is still functional. The graphics are decent, and the resolution has been updated to support newer monitors. If you want to try an unique experience blending RTS and FPS this is it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BZCC is a pretty good PvP game part of a series i grew up on and enjoyed through my childhood. a great mix of FPS/RTS not seen in modern games but sadly it has died off. a lost gem
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot emphasize enough how any version of Battlezone felt like stepping into virtual reality in the early 1980s. (The actual VR Battlezone Gold game by Rebellion is also worth trying!) I always loved playing it, especially once I mastered it on a home computer!
unlabelledView post →One of my childhood favorites, but this time i managed to beat it, since i didn't understand english at the time, just played casually...this game was one of the reasons i understand it now... Unique RTS/FPS Hybrid, if your young give it a try...just know that getting all achievements is brutal... Buy it, 10/10 Obviously runs great on modern systems...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TURNING POINT GAMES 8. Battlezone (1980) Before virtual reality was consumer-grade, Battlezone's 3D vector graphics felt like video games were already getting awfully close. Along with the lesser-known SPASIM, It's one of the foundational games for the first person perspective + was widely copied.

unlabelledView post →This Oldie was a goodie. If you are looking for a RTS combined with a FPS then this game is for you. The revamp has improved the AI and allowed it to be played on modern computers. Great game, wish more of these are produced.
