Happy 25th birthday, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. A titan of AD&D CRPGing, a game that I was SO excited to play in 2000 and did not disappoint. Higher-level adventures that took us from the streets of Amn to the Underdark and across the Planes. You'll always have a special place in my heart.

This was my father's favorite game. He tried making me like it a few times, when I was around 6-7 years old. Obviously I was too young to enjoy or understand it, and I usually ended up asking if I could play Skyrim or Oblivion instead (my two favorite games at the time). Now I decided to buy it, it felt right, as opposed to cracking it like I usually do with my singleplayer games. I bought the game, read the whole manual, and played for 5 hours. I am instantly sucked in. It is only now I…

BioWare's Baldur's Gate II had a series of ads in 2000 featuring key characters from the RPG's main story from the villainous Jon Irenicus (voiced by David Warner) to the mysterious figure seen here with deep, painful ties to his past that players will discover during the course of the adventure.

you just need to look at how long I played this game for, even being a latecomer to Baldur's Gate. It won't hold up to current gamers who are used to the plushy graphics and smooth control systems of most new titles and CRPG's aren't exactly mainstream anymore, but if there's a king of the genre this is it.

It's 'post a random game of your collection' Saturday! Big Box Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. Kind of an unbalanced mess gameplay-wise and storywise it's basically just "all the Bhaalspawn get together and play Highlander" but nevertheless, it concludes the original trilogy.

Baldur's Gate II, an RPG for PC platforms by BioWare, had several different ads run for it in 2000; one two-pager featuring the main villain (voiced in the game by the late, great, David Warner) and this one featuring another key character lurking in the shadows with a taste for blood.

It is often the case that media that gets labeled "the best" fails to live up to that designation. It's hard to approach a work that is supposedly "the best" without a degree of skepticism. "Citizen Kane is the best movie ever? All right, prove it, bub." -- that sort of thing. With video games, I've found this phenomenon ever more pronounced. Only oldheads with nostalgia goggles on would think that a creaky old game is better than the shiny and new game. The best rpg is the newest critically…

Dated but still worth every penny. Bg1, its expansion, siege of dragon spear and then bg2 with its expansion essentially play as one unbroken game/storyline. Amazing story but the gameplay/combat does have a learning curve if you're unfamiliar with dnd. Game has hours and hours of content that has serious replayability. This game was ahead of its time and I cannot recommend this classic title enough.

what can I say about the game that made me fall in love with the gaming world? I used to watch my big brother play it when i was a little girl, drawn towards the beautiful art and soundtrack - which even today, after more than 20 years still gives me chills. Such nostalgia. A dark, personal opening that set it apart as a timeless masterpiece, and maybe the greatest RPG ever.

Sure, but they are not a direct sequel like the first 2 games. Baldur's Gate + Tales of the Sword Coast, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, and Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhall were kind of like 3 different acts of the same game. BG3 is a new story set in the same world rather than a continuation.

Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition The past year or so I've been finding that I revisit old RPGs a lot. There's just some charm and magic that isn't there in newer titles. Obviously we still get a smash hit here and there, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 being a prime example, but there's a certain lack of Western-style RPGs that really nail it as of late. I replayed Baldur's Gate: EE earlier this year and took my character through Baldur's Gate II: EE as well now. I've yet to do Throne of…

Irenicus is gone and the Throne of Bhaal is silent, but the victory feels more like a funeral than a triumph. My party has scattered to the winds, and now I’m just a mortal again, haunted by the echoes of Minsc’s laugh and the weight of a soul I fought so hard to keep. To finish this game is to lose a piece of yourself to the weave—10/10, I’ve never felt so hollowed out by a masterpiece.

Gives her an opportunity to change Mage specialization to Diviner and regardless of the choice adds very useful Diviner spells to the game. The level 6 one stacks if you put it in a Spell Trigger, just sayin.

tl;dr: This is the game that made me fall in love with RPGs, D&D and tabletop gaming, and it holds up to this day. Higher level cap, more spells, far more banter (with fewer companions) and a much more epic story that wraps up the original Bhaalspawn saga. Works well, didn't have any technical issues. Same baldur's gate formula. It has it's own old school charm despite some clunkyness and difficulty that forces you to cheese your way through certain fights. Main issue is with the plot, it's one of those games that sets up a highly urgent plotline and then gives you a whole open world to explore at your leisure and when you're finally done exploring you have no idea what was happening in the story.

Stands among some of the best wRPGs ever made in my opinion. Lots of replayability due to some branching choices, great music, competent writing(for the most part), and just great gameplay overall. Some of the character writing is hit and miss, but mostly it's pretty good. The series was good enough to spawn baldur's gate 3 if you had any doubts about buying this. Hell in my opinion it plays better than baldurs' gate 3 as well.

I think the biggest issue with BG1&2+expansions are uneven difficulty curves - they start challenging, you do side content and outpace the enemies, only for the game suddenly to catch up and start throwing some sadistic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at you. This doesn't mean they're bad - you might be into designing game-breaking parties and abusing game logic, but it's a real battle if you just want something mildly more challenging than baby-friendly story mode. Other than that, lots of content (sometimes too…

There's not much to say that hasn't been already. BG2 is a true classic that has stood the test of time. The only real barrier to having fun is learning the old D+D rules, and how this game engine interprets them. The new characters that came with the Enhanced Edition range from obnoxious to just ok. Even so, you may not care if you've never played the original. And if you've played it to death over the years, they're at least something new to do. Overall, BG2 is easily in the top 10…

Baldur's Gate 2 is one of the best roleplaying games I have ever played and massively improves on the foundation that the first game laid out and expands on the Bhaalspawn story excellently. The environments are really pretty and the writing is great. The companions as well are mega dope. Only thing that pisses me off is they got rid of the "Toime for a bit of the old rough tumble" voice pack, which is really jarring as that was the voice of my character in the first game.
