unlabelledView post →I've got no idea why this thing has a negative rating. It's definitely not amazing, but it's far from being bad. This is a cutesy story that lasts 3 or 4 hours, as it blatantly says on the store page, where you try to save your parents from an evil construction company. You recruit other characters by meeting them in the game world and they've all got their own abilities. It's got shooting, melee and more defensive characters. Visuals are appealing, performance is smooth enough only thing is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I first saw the reveal trailer, I thought, "WOW. This is a game I'm really going to be digging--i mean, look at that ART THO." Alas, here we are. Make no mistake, though it may have seem like I booted AWAY up and wrote a review straight away, I bought the switch version several days before the PC version launched because I was just so excited, and this is what I want to say: I really wanted to like this game. It's visually stunning, but the combat--which is pretty much the entire…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok, so after playing more of Away I have to change my rating to Not Recommended, and I'll say why. The melee combat in this game is literally the worst first person melee combat I've ever played. Even Breakdown on the OG Xbox was much better. Even the First Person FMV game Supreme Warrior had better melee combat than this. This game is not bad when you get a "friend" with a ranged weapon (all of whoms energy drains quite fast), but your main who has melee only is nigh unplayable. The game is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish steam had a "It's okay" not just a binary yes or no answer, I only give this a yes because it's right up my alley, I can't get enough of games with this kind of charm to it. However, until it gets more updates or something, it's just not $16.99 nice. If you can pick this up for about $5 I say absolutely go for it because it isn't a bad game in the slightest, but you'll complete this game in under 4 hours. I like it, I like the charm and personality it has, I like the wholesome writing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really cute, really charming, well made, hour and a half long game padded and bloated with tedium and bad gameplay. I hate to tear into this game, I really wanted to like it. And I can tell that a ton of effort went into this game. But oh my god. This game has a semi permadeath mechanic which typically I don't really mind, but this game really doesn't feel good for it because... The gameplay itself is kinda lame, beyond a pretty unique "team-based" mechanic you don't do much else besides…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really sad case of excellent assets and characters full of graphical personality locked behind an utter mess of gameplay and a completely irrelevant story. The gameplay would be done in 15 minutes if not due to artificial length caused by gating progress behind several repetitions of the same zones. Can't reccomend in any way.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Picked this game up on PSN to pass around with my kids. I played for about 3 hours on my first playthrough. That time is what this review is based on. Although, I did play for about 20 minutes here on Steam so I could make sure everything was the same. I plan on keeping it here on Steam, even though I'll most likely be playing it on the PS4. It's worth a double purchase. So yeah, the review. Away is a pretty simple game with a simple gameplay loop. Make friends, get gold and bombs, then kill…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been looking forward to Away for a while now, after first seeing the game at PAX a year or two ago. And I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in ages. The game is short. It's a total of about 3 hours. At this point I've done more or less everything there is to do, and have all but 2 achievements. Each of the four areas in the game has about 3 different enemies, and of those, there are really only 3 enemies with different behaviors. Finally, the bosses. There are 3 of them total.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No save game option kills this game, sadly because graphics are kinda cute...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The art style is absolutely adorable. Controls are straightforward and easy to understand. The game play is a little repetitive, though. Combat is a little bit more difficult than anticipated, leading to a lot of running the same section of the game over and over again(I'm watching the developer stream right now, and they are doing the same thing over and over and over again). All together, not a bad game. I'm enjoying it thus far.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The sprites are good The gameplay feels sluggish and frustrating. Switching characters makes your screen go dark for a half second for no conceivable reason. The game is extremely repetitive. All of the enemies do the same thing. You cannot rebind controls. Dont do this to yourself.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The dislikes here are unreal. I encourage you to look though the reviews and see the trivial reasons why people are disliking this game. I personally really enjoyed playing and will continue to do so. a few minor bugs mainly with the interface but nothing that effected game play. Definatly worth the cash given that its so cheap and the art style is spot on.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another case where a neutral option would be perfect. Love the art style and character designs. Gameplay is decent, though hit detection could be better. Wish it was a more fully realized action RPG rather than a quick little rogue-lite. Definitely could have used more content. Not as bad as the current average of "mostly negative" would lead you to believe, but I feel that there isn't enough content for $15. Worth picking on sale though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. It's clear the developers are very creative and imaginative! However, the combat just sucks. Enemies can peel away at your health from behind or glitch into you without warning. Multiple times, enemies just straight up glitched through the floors while I was trying to fight them. Also, the filters over the friends' vision made them a lot harder to use to the point that they felt like a power down in some regards. TL;DR Great design and concept spoiled by…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimer: played with an Xbox One gamepad. This is the moment, when I'm sad that Steam still doesn't have Informational (not good, not bad) reviews. But since they still do not exist I have to use what I can. And I'd rather not recommend this game, than recommend it, to be honest. So, there's that. I wishlisted and started to look after that game pretty long time ago. I really liked the visual style, so that was basically the main thing that peaked my interest in it. And now I finally…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I truly wanted to give this game a positive review when I first saw and bought AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected, I really do. But sadly, I can't due to the lack of content for such a price. :( There isn't that much dungeons, allies, bosses, and areas to explore, thus making the game-play quite weak. What makes it even weaker are the keys you get for certain areas which instantaneously unlocks the boss areas ( e.g. Labiworks ) via levelling up. If you happen to be a skilled player, then…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks gorgeous while providing incredibly shallow and monotonous gameplay. This is the kind of gameplay and artstyle that could lend itself to a fascinating open world game with differently themed areas and characters, using different characters' abilities to gain access to new areas or getting certain advantages against certain bosses/enemies or traversal in the world. Unfortunately every ally ends up being used to spam attacks on bosses without worrying about death and that's about…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is neither really good nor bad. It is very repetitive after 1-2 runs. To get to the final "boss" you have to collect all 8 stars. You get stars by collecting companions. You only get them if you choose the correct dialog option and if you choose the wrong one you have to start the run from the beginning. The final boss fight is very easy and anticlimactic. Overall, the beginning is quite good and entertaining and the rest is bad. For 17€ it is not recommendable as it has neither real…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really needs some polish + clean-up work. The title screen n opening is hype af, but the combat fails to follow through. Hitboxes aren't where you'd expect them to be, and while you can adjust, it varies by mob so you're forced to memorize attack ranges for ea mob type, because you can't trust your eyes. Idk if it gets better later, but you take rather a lot of damage compared to what you dish out, so this sort of punishing "restart in your bedroom when you run out of hearts"…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As people said this game sucks. Super repetitive, as all you do is spam attack with a stick against the same few enemies. To fight bosses you need to unlock switches and if you die you have to repeat all that stuff again which is just boring and pointless. The combat is deadful as you get hurt from distances away and can never tell if someone will be in this imaginary range where your stick will reach or they will reach you. IF youre going to be a first person melee fighter u need to actually…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a lot better than most reviews say when it comes to game-play, it's priced a little high for it's length and replay value however, but it is definitely worth buying when it's on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a review, just a recommendation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+cool anime opening +art style +move speed +nice clean jumping -You can get stuck inside enemies, ends with the death of you or the enemy -things move during cutscenes but wont damage you, how i keep getting stuck inside them -the screen gets weird when you swap to other allies, most of them make it much harder to see or tell what's going on - things are 2d and turn with you but take up a 3d amount of space -most of the combat in the game is waiting for things to hop at you so you can wack…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright, the game isn't bad...it's just weird. Gameplay makes me thinks of Vermintide, since you can only attack with a melee weapon, but the combat is not very good because your weapon range is really short and often you will take a hit trying to hit the enemy. Other attacks comes from friends you can party, up to 3 per run, and they have their own weapons. The part that really makes this a bad game is the fact that you need stars to open doors to new areas. That's ok. BUT... To get those…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just started this on PC hence the low game time. I've completed it 100% on Switch a couple of times and love the game. It's simple, cute, and super fun. It was made almost entirely by one guy. No one should be hating on this thing. It's awesome. It is oozing with care and attention to detail.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly underrated game, yes it's simple but the gameplay loop is flawless! Earthbound mood meets first person dungeoneering is an interesting mix that feels weird at first but ramps up pretty fast and in the end works really well! My only nitpick is that the game feels very barren for the first hour or so but after that it's smooth sailing. Pick this up, though!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short and sweet game that took just over 3 hours to beat! Really good art style, though the gameplay isn't the most exciting, A bit too easy for me as I'm used to more difficult games, so I ended up having to die over and over again to get the last few achieves! Beat the game on my 3rd full run! Overall an enjoyable time, but once you've played the game through 1 time, there's no need to play it again!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This doesn't feel a game that is finished with any polish, this feels like a slightly improved game jam project or capstone project. It has charming characters and music but game-play isn't great. the extremely low health means you lose to the many enemies in the room you accidentally walked into since the 2d in 3d world makes it impossible to gauge hurt box distance. Past the basic moment and attack nothing is explained so so thing are happening, journal updated, etc without knowing how to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is a wonderful rogue-like that felt challenging to learn but relatively easy to master, by the end making you feel very powerful just through improvements at the combat. Pros: Amazing art style Satisfying skill curve Characters are pretty fun and unique Cons: Combat is a little simplistic though fun Game is probably worth <£5 since the experience is 3-4hrs long Story is quite simplistic
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I'll start by saying this, I got this in the Jingle Jam bundle (so technically not free, but I didn't buy it individually) I've played just over an hour as of writing this, so I may update this as I go on... TLDR, cute game, great aesthetic, nice change from a regular rogue-lite if you're looking for a slower pace. Gameplay was semi-challenging (so far) BUT there are definitely fixes and quality of life changes needed... - Make the 'hub' worlds smaller/get rid of them, far too big and empty…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks nice for an indie title made by a very small dev team, it plays well enough, but...it's just boring. Enemies are dumb and their attack patterns are predictable so the combat, which makes up 90% of the game, is super boring. There isn't anything exciting you can find in the game world and the story isn't great either. Didn't find a reason to keep playing. If you are desperate for a new game to play you can probably give it a try anyway, but in this day and age where most people…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth the price(not worth more than 99 cents) and the artstyle is not great, not funny, just weird. Might be fun for a few minutes but not more than that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fps roguelite (barony, delver, city of brass etc) with the cutest, charmingest, most amazingest graphic I've ever seen. It's so charming it can rot your teeth off. The gameplay is simple but solid, and the gimmick you recruit party member as your "weapon" but you also change into their pov when you change into them, for example someone might only see in monochrome, or someone have broken glasses ruining their pov. The length seems to be short and sweet, which is the kind of game I like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected gives you a stick and sends you off to an artistically gorgeous but unengaging world with a gameplay that leaves a lot to desire and causes the game to lose its charm. The gameplay doesn't feel as special as the art style does and it's not particularly memorable in anything it tries to do. Most of the core mechanics used are well-known, but the game twists them in weird ways for no reason and turns it hard to make things out. Besides, despite claiming to be a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just can't recommend this game. The visuals are amazing, but the gameplay itself is just meh at best. If you die, you have to do EVERYTHING again. yeah, everything. it doesnt matter how far along you've made it, you gotta do it all again. the combat mechanisms are repetitive, and enemies can hurt you in odd ways and from large distances. also kinda laggy and jumpy in general.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I beat the game. Took longer than it should've because I was looping back to the start many times and didn't know where to go. I'm not a big fan of looping games. It's a little bit lazy in terms of game design. This game is gorgeous to look at and the combat is fun. Level designs are random and can be kind of fun. But the looping and short length of the game make it a no buy. Only get this if you're really attracted to the look and awant to spend some time in an anime style world like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →has a really interesting art design but the game itself is boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a difficult game to recommend to just anyone, but is also not a bad game to not recommend. While the game's design can seem rather basic, it is a rather unique take on the roguelike genre. There is not much hand holding, not much of a tutorial and it relies more on the player trying things out. discovering and figuring out what to do on their own with minimal help. There is not much complexity and it is also rather short once you find your way around and how to play it to reach…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a pretty cute game. The graphics were cute and unique, and the whole battle system was interesting (as anyone in your party was pretty much used as a "skill" with a limit on how much you can use their attacks, so in that way, they weren't really a normal team member). The in-game volume controls were a bit wonky and didn't work as it should (when you adjust them, they do work, but not all the time, for example, loading up a new area had them "reset" even though the bars never actually…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've pretty much done everything in 4 hrs, and could have done it a bit sooner. It's fine for what it is, you got through a few different bigger areas, recruit a max of 3 characters per run, fight through some uninspired dungeons with a bit of procedural generation and have to restart every time you reach the last door without having recuited everyone, and level up a bit to get some more moves for the main character and some fast travel ability. The outside areas are too big for what they are,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice artstyle can't save this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I want to like this game, its flaws are just too big and drag the rest of the game down with it. The graphics, other than an overuse of post processing filters is all very nice and charming. The music varies from good to great. The writing is often quite funny. But the gameplay just isn't there to support it. Your melee attacks feel very inconsistent in their reach depending on what enemy you're facing. Some you can hit from a mile away while other you gotta get right up in their…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's nice. Feels good to run around in a pretty environment. I like that it's short. Definitely not worth the price they're asking, but it was worth picking up in a bundle. I wish it was a proper collect-athon, because it doesn't allow itself to be a shooter, and the doom/quake style combat really doesn't work well for melee, and I love exploring the world. Wish the devs would have capitalized on that rather than "rogue-lite". It's extremely light on the rogue-lite. More character…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely gorgeous designs can't distract from the fact that there's just not enough game here for the price. I got all the way to the final boss and was told to go back and grind "stars" to get in. Srsly?!? If you find it for $3 or less, give it a shot for 3 hours of fun, but otherwise give it a pass.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphics are nice, hitting the enemies feels a bit weird since they are flat 2d and it's sometimes a little hard to tell if they are in your hit-range or not... but technically it's fine. The thing is... it's super tedious. You walk through partially empty maps over and over again as it tries to be a roguelite, but it just makes everything slower. The bosses so far were super weird, the first boss is a spider and I did nothing but stand infront of it and click several times. There are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Run it with your integrated card if it crashes on start Looks great, gameplay is passable. A fun quick game, but not worth it at full price Melee combat feels unfinished, since the enemies attack you by simply touching you while your weapon has super low reach and a too long recovery phase Recruiting the companions, which you all need to finish the game, can get tedious since in the dialogues you dont really have an indicator on what will progress the game Overall a 7/10 at best, deserves…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected is a lighthearted game that looks quite nice visually and has fine music along the side giving good spice to the game, though looping sometimes can cut off. You can get total of three friendship boxes that you can fill with friends from four different regions in game. In one walkthrough you visit two of the regions that are forest/desert and arctic/beach. Regions have flipping lever task to open gate to the boss dungeon where you meet more of the enemies and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected is one of the cutest first-person indie titles ever made. It's an anime-inspired rogue-lite where the power of friendship aids you in your journey (no really) by befriending a set of weird and wonderful characters with a wide range of wacky attacks. It's a feel-good FPS but for all of the wholesome reasons. RIP & TEAR? NOT IN THIS SHOOTER. LOVE & CHERISH! You also consume Burgers to gain health. Instant GOTY.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yep, this game is short. But it's also really cute and has really nice artstyle. I think the only problem is that devs put in rouge-like elements, I guess they should've better concentrate on making maybe quite longer game but without all these elements. There are really only three of four parts of level combining with each other randomly. And from a rouge-like genre you usually expect a hundreds of hours of content.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed this game. I enjoyed the art style, the soundtrack and the difficult is challenging enough it will keep me engaged till I complete the game. I don't get to play many games, but this was one I could put on for an hour or so while the kids watched. They enjoyed it too. If your in for something fun, interesting and different your will really like this. At one point I even caught myself comparing favourably to the old days of Doom and Duke Nukem. Mostly because the game felt…

It forces you to experience most of the game to beat it since it is so tiny and the last boss is a minigame unrelated to the type of combat you did before, i like the style but it is completely wasted on a game like this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun game. I beat it in about 3 hours. Simple, but entertaining.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had to insert the following start up parameters to get the game to stop crashing at the boot-up (thanks to Bing AI for the quick solution): -force-d3d11 -force-feature-level-10-0 A developer can set stuff on the programming side so that it can automatically switch to functional settings in case the game requires specific DirectX 10 shader settings. This should not be a user side issue. The error log output is completely worthless because it only says that an error occurred in UnityPlayer dll…
