If you're curious about the series and want a solid, modern introduction, honestly - forget Ryza; go Sophie (and if you want to dive straight in at number 2, there is a convenient recap of the previous game available from the main menu). Happy crafting!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm like 20 hours into Atelier Sophie 2 and I think this is one of the most fun rpgs I've played. Everything about the systems of this game are really awesome and it feels like such a great culmination of all the mysterious games.
unlabelledView post →You get to hang out with hot, single grandma and get a degree in alchemy along the way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needless to say, Atelier Sophie 2 is pretty fun!! It's actually quite rare that my first boot of a game lasts more than 1.5 hours
unlabelledView post →Ultimately a not recommend from me. Though there is a lot of good in this game, it could not overcome the sheer feeling 'pointlessness' that permeates this entire game. So first, the pros: The game runs smoothly, the artstyle is beautiful, the character designs are great. Each of the maps that the game puts the player in are beautiful, and the changes in the weather using the tools introduced in this game highlighted that even further. The combat is fun and challenging on the Very Hard…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Games like this are why I love RPGs. I will never give up on my dreams. Atelier Sophie 2 is thus far, the highlight of the Atelier series to me and easily the best of all the mysterious games. Pretty much everything that was good about the first 3 games was combined in this game with pretty much none of the stuff that didn’t really work, along with the most fun combat and crafting system of the series. On top of that, the writing is top notch, with a lot of touching and meaningful character…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was my first Atelier game! It's colourful & sweet, with charming characters, and funny moments throughout. Story Unlike a lot of other JRPGs, you aren't a legendary god-hero on a grand quest to save the universe. You're just a girl who wants to craft stuff and help her friends. It's more low-key / gentle, while still very much fantasy. Despite the title, doesn't expect you to have played any earlier entries in the series. Gameplay Between the exploration, gathering, alchemy,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is unplayable on steam deck there's an issue where it freezes on loading screens and has to be force quit and restarted over and over losing progress again and again its a 3year old issue so unlikely to get fixed. im really super disappointed i wish id known this before purchasing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Atelier Sophie 2; the game has those "squeeze through gaps" moments, but most of them are placed in-front of areas that are so wide you could walk through them. It makes the visual of squeezing or shimming very funny when the mismatch is so dramatic.
unlabelledView post →If you plan to play this on the deck, you might want to reconsider it, the game seems to have a nasty habit of permafreezing on loading screens, potentially causing you to lose progress, about 50/50 chance usually, with some areas its even more likely Anyway, with that out of the way, it's a pretty good game, though the ingame info could use some polish, as it has a tendency to send you to the wrong places for certain materials, like saying a certain boss drops silver crystals, when it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →best atelier game that covers all possible QoL. you don’t run as fast as Ryza 3 but the puzzle board alchemy is the best thing in the whole franchise
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same satisfying gameplay loop of the other Atelier games. Atelier Sophie 1 was actually my first in the series, and it's crazy to see how much improvement they've made. Before characters barely animated, NPCs rarely had anything useful or interesting to say, voice acting was minimal (though that did allow for localization unlike this one), cut scenes were practically nonexistent, and the game didn't bother to teach you that making gear was more important than leveling up. Now their battle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having now finished Atelier Sophie 1 and 2 as well as Atelier Ryza 1, 2 and 3, there is a pattern in my impressions of the first and second games of both subseries. While Ryza and Sophie are quite different in both their alchemy mechanics and as well as their combat, in both Ryza 1 and Sophie 1 I felt like I overall enjoyed the experience, but felt like they were heavily lacking in some areas: In Ryza 1, I didn't like the bigger focus on plot as I felt it was at the expense of individual…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After being very disappointed with Atelier Sophie 1, I was hesitant to try this one, but I'm pleased to say that Sophie 2 eliminates almost all of what I disliked from Sophie 1 while keeping the same sort of cozy feel. This game bridges the time between the events of Sophie 1 (there's a nice video summary at the title screen if you didn't play it or it's been a long time) and Firis. It takes place in a dream world/dimension, so it is mostly separated from the main Mysterious storyline. The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been trying to play Atelier Sophie 2 on my Steam Deck and let me tell you it does NOT want to be played on the device. 😂 It forgets my graphical settings between sleeps and it freezes somewhat regularly forcing me to quit the game. But it’s great when it’s working lmao.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Replaying this gem again reaffirms that this game is a peak in the series. While Ryza was great in bringing in new fans and being a satisfying trilogy and I love Yumia with the story and respect experimenting with the formula. Sophie 2 is what I point to for the Atelier Series. A cozy, light-hearted and fun adventure with heart felt moments. Brimming with charm! Man I miss character comments with each item, little touches like that make Sophie 2 feel more polished and charming. The alchemy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My actual answer is Atelier Sophie 2, but I cry at maybe every single game that lets itself be even the slightest bit sincere. I used to go "ohhh I've cried at nothing except for Metal Gear Solid 3 because I'm a stoic" and now it's honestly be easier to list games I don't cry at.
unlabelledView post →Finished Atelier Sophie 2, was a great game. Ended up liking it a lot more than Ryza 1. I think the take on turn based combat here is pretty great. After I finish Rorona I will see what next Atelier it will be for me, more Ryza, Sophie or Arland. Definitely a series I what to check out more
unlabelledView post →I should probably finish Atelier Sophie 2 before i start the new Ys game 🤔🤔
unlabelledView post →3. Atelier Sophie 2, my favorite in the series, and love how Sophie's development is in her second game!
unlabelledView post →It's an amazing game! It was such an emotional yet joyful experience with Sophie on this Journey. The turn-based game-play and alchemy system were fun. And Sophie is just as cute as she was before! Always cherish your dreams...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a lot of doubts about this game and didn't expect to like it too much. Having a sequel to the first game after the trilogy completed? And in "it's just a dream" isekai setting? Also, I expected it to be mostly a reskin of Ryza 2, since it's the same engine. I din't like Ryza 2 so much I gave it thumbs down. I also didn't like the Mysterious Painting game, so I thought I got burn out on Mysterious formula. Well, I'm happy to report the game is actually very good. It FEELS and works like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite atelier I've played so far. A turn based combat system that was ahead of it's time and done better than expedition 33 if you ask me. Engaging story, great gameplay. Good music. Easy recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Atelier Sophie 2 is the 4th game I've played by gust and up until playing it I thought their games were overpriced and mediocre at best. Thankfully Sophie 2 has proven Gust are capable of making and writing a good game. Pros - - Sophie 2s graphics are immediately what made me fall in-love with this game. The scenery, character models, zones, weapon designs, all of it is so beautiful. - Music was nice here, but it usually is in JRPGs. Nothing groundbreaking but all nice to listen to. -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love her, grandma. And I also love her grandma.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend this. 80% of the "game" is spent watching cutscenes. There are seriously places where it's 30 seconds or less between cutscenes. You enter a building, and get a cutscene. You walk through a door and get another cutscene. Which might have been ok, except that the story has some of the worst writing I've ever seen in any medium, ever, game or otherwise. It's one contrivance and coincidence after another. Flashbacks to things that happened mere minutes ago, people suddenly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Open this game, take a bunch of muscle relaxers and make sure to keep a bucket of caramel next to you. You're about to get enlightened.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visual, combat, collecting, all great and all that. But for the love of... these girls won't stop talking for single minute! Whatever you do, whenever and even if you do nothing. The same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ repeating voice lines appear. It really gets on the nerves extremely fast. Sure, you can turn off the character voices, but this will do so even for combat and cutscenes... I would not recommend this unless you enjoy hearing these repetitive weeb-uwu-sounds on a constant repeat.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute sharkteeth girl gets isekai'd also you can talk with your hot young grandma 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sophie is cute. Plachta is cute. Granny is cute. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Atelier Sophie 2 - Every now and then you run into a game that makes you say, "yeah I am glad I was born so I could experience this". This is one of those games, a testament to why JRPGs mean everything to me. A flawless masterpiece, absolute cinema, peak fiction, GOAT, RAW, FIRE you know the drill.
unlabelledView post →I "beat" Atelier Sophie 2 but I really couldn't be assed to make the last thing to beat the game after the final boss. fuck that game was ok
unlabelledView post →Best cast, best alchemy system, potentially best combat. It makes sense, why this game is on the top of a lot of people list for favorite atelier game. Its on mine now as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard to believe this game was released in 2022, the graphics look at least 10 years old with a bit of modern post-processing. Animations look like recycled garbage and it seems the series is just turning to making more provocative character designs to sell copies.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite of the Atelier games, so good I played it twice and if they remaster it, I will play it a third time. Takes everything good from the series and slaps good boss battles into it which results in a very fun experience with reactive gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disregard my playtime; I've completed the game on another platform. By far the BEST Atelier game with a huge lead over the others. The alchemy system is an extremely satisfying puzzle, item collection and exploration is truly meaningful, and the combat is extremely well done. Everything is intertwined in such a way that you seamlessly transition between gameplay modes, and the game flows extremely well. One weak point might be the overall story, but honestly it's fine. If it were an anime i'd…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easily one of the best Atelier games. You don't have to play Sophie 1 in order to play this one; but you will be missing out a little bit on the relationship between Sophie and Plachta. At the time of this review, it's currently the last Atelier game that's properly turn-based. But thankfully it is the best iteration of proper turn-based combat in Atelier games, along with a really robust crafting system that improved upon the previous iterations within the Mysterious' sub-series.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A wise man once said, "We cannot become what we want by remaining who we are." If you go to fight a boss, and it defeats you, and then you go back and do the same thing, you didn't learn anything. If you keep doing the same thing to the boss, and you keep losing, then you have not learned, and you don't change or grow as a person. Initially, I had left a negative review because I was humbled by the boss fights. However, the thing which is making you better is the thing which is making you…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply said, I freakin' love this game. The 100% achievements that I got for this game proves just that. Coming from the Ryza trilogy, I find that the synthesis grid mechanic in this game is a lot more in-depth and not as trivial as Ryza's synthesis loop mechanic. You are encouraged to experiment with different traits in order to get a much stronger trait, unlike in Ryza where you can just throw in the same trait over and over to raise a specific trait to its max level. You are also going to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite game in the Atelier series -- if you haven't played Sophie 1 though, I highly suggest doing that first. There's a lot of references between character interactions and story that require some knowledge of the first Sophie game to really understand. For any newer fans who came to the series from the newer Ryza games, definitely suggest this game. I think Sophie is a much more fun and interesting character than Ryza, I think the plot and artwork are better, and I think overall the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I first played this game years ago on my Switch but, for one reason or another, never managed to finish it. It was actually my introduction to the Atelier series, and I’m genuinely glad it was. Even after all this time, I still find it hard to find any real fault with it. The crafting system remains one of my favourite aspects; it’s intricate, satisfying, and endlessly rewarding once you start understanding its layers. The story has a charm that’s both relaxing and engaging + The OST is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game has improved few functions compared to the first part and also I think it's easier than first part. Story was very great! I'll recommend this game! Graphics: 7/10 Soundtrack: 9/10 Gameplay: 8/10 Story: 10/10 (Absolute cinema) Overall: 8.5/10

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I initially want to Not Recommend this game due to the constant freezing problem while playing on Linux. But everything else is so great. Definitely the best game in the whole Atelier series so far that I've played.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you play on atelier game in your life it should be sophie 2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd call this the best Atelier game to date! This game is a decent entry point, despite being a direct sequel to a previous instalment. If you haven't played the first Atelier Sophie, you'll be missing context about why Sophie cares about Plachta so much, but it's easy enough to get a rough idea just from context and dialogue. There's a recap available if you need it. Graphics are okay, though a bit of a downgrade if you're coming from Atelier Ryza. The characters are well-designed and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crashes often on Steam Deck. Game freezes are fairly random, but pretty frequent while on loading screens. There are in game tutorials related to a gathering mini game. You have the option to skip - I recommend you do because the game freezes every time you try to view one of these tutorials. The game is otherwise great, just don't expect Nintendo Switch level of quality and stability.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dawg i wasnt expecting this game to be this addicting wtf
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sophie is the cutest, couldn't complain
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →9/10. I really really like it. My first Atelier, per the recommendation of my friend. I'm not exactly familiar with these genres, but I've always been open to new things. And man I'm glad I tried this one out. I'm very impressed. The alchemy system is probably the most intricated things I've ever seen. Easy to learn, hard to master. And the game rewards you squarely for the efforts you put into alchemy. It's a very satisfying experience once I took the time to learn it. And I guess that's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably w/e I spent on LoL over time for skins, it was a lot & more than I'd like to admit for lifetime spending on it before I quit forever ago. Though I mean if you a single purchase for a game then I suppose has to be Atelier Sophie 2 limited edition, it was sequel to my fav game ever so 😅.
unlabelledView post →A truly charming game. Sophie 2 is a perfect blend of the finest elements of the Atelier franchise, from past to present. It absolutely lives up to the wait and is well worth the time of fans of this 20+ years old franchise
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing games. If you’re wondering whether you should play Ryza or Sophie, here’s my conclusion. Sophie’s story revolves around dreams and memories, so it places more emphasis on the synthesis system. Ryza’s story is about saving the world, so it focuses more on the combat system. Both are amazing games with wonderful stories, especially Sophie’s ending, which genuinely made me tear up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the (if not the) best Atelier games. The story is good but the crafting is the real win. It's much more involved. There's few simple loops to be OP by mid game. It's a real puzzle at times. Perfectly balanced.
