It includes my favorite workshop song, with some of the best character designs, and a time limit that isn't so stressful. The assignments are really easy. Make a bunch of bombs and barrels? It's a pass! Make tons of food with alchemy, or simply buy it all from your childhood friend who is a chef? Pass! Hunt down eagles at the forest? Another pass! Once you complete each assignment, you can take…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So the game has issues where menus cause a massive drop in fps resulting in a 2 second or so delay. This is with a 5800x3d cpu & RTX 4070. There's forum posts about this going back to the games launch. Now 2 seconds may not seem like a lot but the premise of the game is managing resources and crafting potions etc as you run an alchemy lab. This is all done via menus, you can't avoid the menus as they are a fundamental part of game-play. Can't recommend a game reliant on community fixes.

unlabelledView post →This isn't so much a "negative" review as it is middling, but Steam doesn't allow for nuance so here we are. So, this is my first outing with a game in the Atelier series. From the descriptions I'd read and the screenshots/videos/etc. I was expecting a fairly cosy, relaxing experience along the lines of maybe a Recettear, with a mix of the atelier and some combat and exploration underpinned by some story deadlines to give structure to it. Instead, the time constraints thread through pretty…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A relatively short jrpg that centers itself around a young girl thrust into the position of business owner due to her master's lack of care. I've finished this game about 5 times now across pretty much every platform it's available on, so I feel like I can confidently say that it is pretty good. future Atelier games are better for sure, but there is just something special about Rorona that makes me feel that you'd be doing a disservice to yourself if you don't experience it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first ever Atelier game of the franchise. For me, this game is really for anime fans like me that enjoys watching cozy genres. Then adding the Alchemy gameplay into a catchy story is a huge plus and let's you feel like the real Rorona, hehe. Gameplay wise, this game has time limits so it's a warning for those who just wants to chill because you are bounded by it for a game that is heavily focused on crafting and gathering materials. It's fair to say that it will force you to do tasks…

unlabelledView post →Illya isekai'd to Arland!? (Rorona has the same voice actor as Illya!) It's such a cozy slice-of-life game! The gameplay and Alchemy was fun! You will be completing assignments before the deadline to ensure your Atelier is not closed down. The time limit is not too hard as long as you know what you are doing. You will encounter many great characters throughout your adventure. There are so many cute and funny moments with Rorona!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall Rating: 7/10 Gameplay: 7/10 • Atelier Rorona is the first game of the Arland series. It opens the Arland trilogy with a great story that could have been dark but lightens it with character and game designs. The game includes multiple endings depending on character interactions and story progression. It also includes characters from the second and third game, Atelier Totori and Atelier Meruru, into it's post-game. • Compared to other Atelier series, Atelier Rorona has a simplistic yet…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →( full review with screenshots: https://gaming-parrot.com/post/atelier-rorona-review-flawed-craft/ ) Note: Despite being marked Unsupported for Deck, the game runs flawlessly other than needing mouse controls to launch. The menu lag you'll encounter is present on Windows as well. Atelier Rorona is the first game in the Arland sub-trilogy of the massive Atelier series. Like all of the trilogies, it's entirely self-contained, so you don't need to have played any of the older games to start…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction As a fan of the series, I decided to write reviews for the Atelier games. I tried to make them in a way that newcomers and maybe even fellow fans who're looking for the next installment find out something about it. About Atelier This is a classic JRPG franchise, meaning it has turn based battles where you have to select from a list what will your characters do in their turn. Atelier's charm however lies in the alchemy system. This system is about gathering materials in around…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very overpriced (bought the PS3 version many years ago for half the price), PC port has some technical issues (rare crashes and animation glitches) and English translation is quite bad (inaccurate and has errors). Combat and Synthesis work but are somewhat primitive compared to later games. Only really good thing about this game is the character interactions and atmosphere but luckily those are very good. I would like to give it a neutral score but since that isn't an option I'll put a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game, but not the best port. The time management aspect of this game is very enjoyable for me. The deadlines are very forgiving, so you can easily complete assignments, but getting all of the optional stuff and endings can be tough. The synthesis mechanics are pretty in depth, but unless you're doing the overtime bosses you don't really interact with those more in depth mechanics. The combat is simple, but fun. The assist mechanic is pretty fun and really strong, but if you're…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Works great on steamdeck! As much as it has a time limit I feel like as a JRPG it respects my time more
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that somehow managed to balance time management, crafting, dating sim style relationship management, JRPG battles and dungeon crawling into one wonderful package. A simple but compelling story that is uplifted by a cast of lovable, well realized and funny characters, each one being given their own time and stages to shine throughout the story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This Atelier game I liked better than I expected, but it's not one I'd recommend to most players as there is a real lack of QoL, somewhat frustrating gameplay, and some weird design decisions that detract from the enjoyment. I'd only recommend it to those who like the classic time management style gameplay and are willing to overlook the dated feel. I don't mind time management titles, my favorite game in the series is Escha and Logy which has a light time limit. This one is set up…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game seems like it'd probably be fun, but there's a full two seconds of lag any time you take an action. Koei has acknowledged that this happens, and they don't care. I can't recommend this lazy port.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After putting over 100 hours into the PS3 version I just had to play it again in gorgeous 1440p 165FPS so I bought it again on PC. This game has everything you could ask for. Incredibly fun and likable characters, good humor, great combat, beautiful graphics, a deep alchemy system and every mechanic is as rewarding as it is well designed. The charm this game radiates at every moment will put a smile on your face and the music is fantastic. I wholeheartedly recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Chronologically, this is the first atelier game that was released so I'd start with this. Atelier Rorona ~The Alchemist of Arland~ is a story about a young Alchemist named Rorona, who is tasked to save her workshop from closing down by doing assignments. The story is very casual, but I had a lot of fun playing the game as Rorona, she is just so sweet and cute. + Extremely good voice-overs and dialogues, enjoyed it very much + Wonderful and charming characters, all of them were so good + Good…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Atelier Rorona ~The Alchemist of Arland~ DX is a charming and deceptively complex RPG that blends slice-of-life storytelling, turn-based combat, and a deep crafting system into a cohesive whole. Developed and published by KOEI TECMO GAMES, this enhanced edition of the original game breathes new life into the first installment of the Arland trilogy. It introduces quality-of-life improvements, additional content, updated visuals, and a more polished experience overall. At its core, the game tells…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You have a time limit on what you can do, and everything takes time to do. Synthesising things takes time - rounded up to days, so you need to plan ahead and manufacture in batches. Restoring health and magic takes time - you need to rest to heal up efficiently, and that takes multiple days if you're tapped out. And you will need to rest even if you haven't gotten hurt, because synthesising things consumes magic. Which consumes more time. Gathering materials and exploring areas takes time -…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a newcomer to the Atelier franchise, I jumped into it with zero expectations, only knowing its slice-of-life-esque reputation. To my surprise i got super hooked on the crafting system and the whole calendar gameplay loop. If you enjoy cute girls doing cute stuff and le crafting autism you will enjoy this game. HOWEVER i do have a few complaints, mainly that i wish that the triggers for character events were much clearer (as to save me the work of looking it up) although this might be me…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried. Oh my GOD I tried. There's so much here. Tons of art stills, tons of customizable music options across the entire franchise, tons of things to unlock for all the stories. There's so much here. But it is SUCH an unbelievably painful experience doing anything blind. And even when you don't, you're still absolutely crippled for ages. And even THEN you're still forced to spam bomb items to kill the endgame bosses. I gave up a long time ago and tried to just follow a guide from other…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, this game is super underrated amongst the Atelier games. I think it has one of the better cast of characters and its basic gameplay loop is fun and weirdly addictive. I had no issues with this port at all, no bugs or crashes on my end. Also Rorona till this day is still one of the best protagonists in the franchise.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: A great entry point to the Atelier series. Good crafting mechanics and time management lead to a fun, but grindy, adventure. PROS: ✅Fun writing ✅Music ✅Addicting micromanagement with synthesis/days CONS: ➖Fixed camera ➖Most endings are a big grind ➖Inventory sorting resets every time you exit inventory ➖Slight UI entry issues (controller) Content (Game world/Narrative/Length) – [6/10] Game World: Atelier Rorona ~The Alchemist of Arland~ DX (Rorona) takes place in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steam Deck: All ran well, menus and load times were just a bit laggy when I limited the GPU and CPU. Even FMVs worked. A wonderful, lighthearted tale of a ditzy girl trying her best, the usual Atelier formula. I do think the game excuses too much sexual harassment though. Combat is incredibly boring, though, besides the superbosses. Beating the superbosses was fun and rewarding. Time limit is pretty strict at times if you don't know what you're doing. I have not yet played the post game, as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great, the port sucks, and the localization... It's just terrible. Could they have bothered to put in any effort to make the characters say what they're saying instead of something they made up off the top of their head? I can't count the amount of times I've read 1 word responses for someone that just gave me a whole spiel, or a character clearly saying something they didn't say in the Japanese script. Pathetic.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best shoujo anime I've ever watched. 10/10 would synthesize again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have seen the light. My inner alchemist anime girl is alive and well and I now journey to experience every single game this series has produced. I never gave a second thought to these games before but now I don't want to play anything else; I'm on my second playthrough immediately after my first, in pursuit of more satisfying, conclusive ending to the first of a trilogy of equally relaxed, absurdly charming games. This one is apparently the "most" brutal of them all in regards to time…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was a nice adventure, one of my favorites til now. Rorona is cute and fun, like a less airhead version of Sophie. Totally cute. I'll miss playing with her. Got the normal ending, don't know if thats ok or should be better, but i guess it could be worse. Ending thoughts: it was way better than i supposed it would be, since it is the first of the "modern" Atelier games. The story is fun, lighthearted and charming. Music and artwork is amazing. So, this is it, now, lets go to Totori.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could recommend this game, but it is incredibly hard to play on the PC. This game will freeze every time you try to interact with something, and while it is playable, you will spend a lot of time staring at a frozen screen. This happens every time you get in a fight with a monster, try to gather ingredients, change locations, interact with people, bring up a menu, or try and craft something. I really wanted to enjoy this, but after 6-7 hours of playing, I realized I had spent more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first attempt at an Atelier game, and I gotta say I like it. Sure, it is a bit casual. It is somewhat of a Slice-of-Life Visual Novel / JRPG type game with a heavy emphasis on crafting (though it doesn't require manual skill or anything, since it is just like the Monster Hunter crafting but with extra steps to the combining). The art style is kinda shoujo. Okay, everything is kinda shoujo (skinny girls, pretty guys, etc). The game gives the impression of being marketed to girls, but I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Also known as Atelier Rorona Plus, this game is a remastered version of the original Atelier Rorona released way back in 2009. The remaster improves on all aspects of the game in significant and tangible ways; the 3D models are touched up, the music is remixed, an events gallery is added to the main menu, side characters can now be recruited into your party and they come with flashy new abilities, and more! Although the high-level gameplay loop is pretty stale (fight, gather, craft, repeat)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent entry in the Atelier series. If you're just getting into the Atelier series, it's probably better to start at Atelier Ayesha, for many reasons, such as quality of life, better combat, etc. 7/10 game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →haven't finished this on this account yet but awesome game. 9/10 very comfy and weirdly layered and have a lot of depths that adds to the replay value recommend buying this on sales.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update: completed a single playthrough after 51 hours (including a couple of hours of AFK'ing because eating and all that so let's say mid 40s). This game is made with heart and skill. It feels like those who made it took their job seriously whilst taking themselves not too seriously. I had a great time and plan to 100% it. Review after 4,5 hours: I am a cute girl doing cute things. Come at me bro. Atelier Ilyasviel is a good time so far. Long live turn-based combat!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Coming off the Dusk trilogy, I had heard this one was difficult and strict with its time limits. After playing it for myself I don't agree, I found it easy to 10-star most main missions, and the only hard challenges are certain optional bosses, but it should be no problem for most people to get a good ending. This game is considerably simpler and shorter than the Dusk games. I do enjoy the bingo-board style of rewards for doing side objectives (later reused in Escha and Logy), which makes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoy this game, but it isn't a good port. After a while the way it hangs every time you gather something, go into the menu, or craft gets very jarring. The price is also very high for such an old game, definitely wait for a sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →12/10- cringe rating system everyone uses now days This game is fun slice of life and has a lot of heart. My only complaint was the near stress inducing timer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pure kino game . No leftist agenda . No wokeness . Safe to buy. Also play the games on playstation 2 . Atelier iris 1 and 2 . Ar tonelico 1 and 2 and mana khemia ... You will cry tears of joy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who play the 4 series ahead of this game, ill say it aged a bit poorly, the first 1/3-2/3 of the game is pretty slow even tho it pretty short, game don't feel like it pick up in pace of things to do that are interesting still the last 1/3 (year 3) of the game, ill say year 2 but year 2 kinda get speed run by making alot of perma upgrade to the shop that are really helpful. Gameplay wise, combat is pretty much Spam attack with ticket items for 90% of the main story with the last year…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nothing happens in this game, but that's okay!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since it's an older game, IMO it's worth it if you get it during a sale. Recommend saving frequently since game crashed multiple times on me. I personally don't mind the time management aspect of it, since I won't be going for 100% achievement or all endings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wanted to play the original version on rpcs3 but it's broken. Bought this version and I can not believe how much they nerfed Sterk. Bro's skills in this version of the game do half of the damage of his basic attacks in the og release lol. Also I kinda liked the og game not having mp because it makes healing much more valuable. Another thing that I prefer in the og game was that it showed the hp of enemies as a number and not just a bar. Overall I think this is a better game than the original…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Atelier Rorona is a really great entry into the Atelier series! This was my first Atelier game. The Arland series appear to have some intense time limits throughout the entire game by comparison to other games where the time limit was scrapped. So the Arland series may not be as relaxing as you might be looking for. However, if you're looking for a challenging game with crafting, then this is perfect!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Atelier Rorona just kinda pisses me off honestly. Haflf of the game is good enough Atelier gameplay, you can get from most any title on steam, and the other half is some of the most annoying things in any Atelier game. Let's start with the good; Rorona is, thus far in my Atelier games playthroughs one of the more fun protagonists. Regularly clumsy but more in an idiotic way. Synthisis is more complicated and difficult to master then in the newer games, making items you create more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first game in the Arland series doesn't stand up well against the Dusk or Mysterious series in terms of gameplay, the alchemy system is quite basic and the combat is maybe a tad too easy and lacking complexity. But past all that, Rorona is a fun game with an entertaining cast of characters and a comedic main story with a bunch of optional and postgame content.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't let the homies know I fw this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't recommend if you are trying to scratch that modern atelier itch I come from playing modern atelier games, basically any atelier game past 2022. I wanted to revisit the older atelier games hoping to scratch that modern atelier itch. I'm not gonna sugar coat it, the game is essentially just a glorified fetch quest game. You have major fetch quest you have to complete every quarter of the year for 3 years. And while doing the major fetch quest your also doing mini fetch quest to earn money…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rin has played many Koei Tecmo's games and while every single title has technical problems, she mostly turned blind eyes because her PC can brute force. But this title has 1-second freeze every time you open menu or collect ingredients on the field, which causes great annoyance. Rorona is a good game with fun and likeable characters but Rin can't enjoy because Koei Tecmo's engine developers are incompetent clowns.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably not the greatest first atelier because of how strict the time management is, but saving often can help.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dumb as a brick and hilarious. especially nice compared to the newer oversexualized mc's. from chapter 5 onward it is fun.
