What people are saying

Mostly positive, but DLC pricing and removed combat mechanics draw sharp criticism.

Many players praise the remake's visuals and faithful preservation of the original's pirate atmosphere. One reviewer calls it "a great remake of an already great game" with improved lighting and textures. [3]

However, the aggressive DLC pricing at launch is a major point of contention. Some players allege that Ubisoft charges "€85 worth of DLC's on the first day" and that the store is intrusive, with one noting if you press the pause button... it takes you directly to the in-game store. [4][30]

Additionally, the removal of unarmed combat and weapon pickup mechanics from the original frustrates some fans. One reviewer laments, the removal of unarmed combat and enemy disarming... makes the combat feel less dynamic. [29]

Come on Ubisoft you just couldn't hold yourself huh?! Releasing a 70 euro game and on the DAY of the release you slap us with 85 euros worth of DLC packs that are just not cosmetic but give you a gameplay advantage this is why piracy exist and I will be refunding!

Cutscenes capped at 30FPS in 2026... Really? Have I bought DLC? No. Do you want to buy DLC? No. Do you want to buy DLC? NO!!! Menus are a cash grab for Assassins Creed Shadows... "Launch Shadows to see stats for item"... SERIOUSLY??? The game itself is beautiful and a well made Remaster of an original legendary game, but modern Ubisoft always find a way to F*** things up. I want a single player experience I can enjoy WITHOUT microtransactions and in menu advertisement for AC Shadows being…

What's the point of getting the deluxe version when, immediately in game, there's $84.91 worth "DLC" that you don't own. Ubisoft also deleted my Uplay points. so there's even more I can't access. UBISOFT WHO HURT YOU!?!

My biggest disappointment with Black Flag Resynced is the removal of unarmed combat and enemy disarming. In the original game, one of my favorite parts of combat was disarming larger enemies, stealing their axes, or taking guns from guards and using their own weapons against them. It made Edward feel resourceful, unpredictable, and genuinely pirate-like. Removing that mechanic makes the combat feel less varied and strips away one of the features that gave the original game so much…

Look I hate to join the band wagon and give a negative review over one single aspect of a game, but people genuinely did not express how truly awful a racket ubisoft are running here. To start, if you press the pause button (the three little lines on your controller) naturally the game pauses. Press it again and it doesn't exit the pause menu, no instead it takes you directly to the in-game store. Really?! Every single time I try to exit it really has to try and make me buy something because…

The game is good and looks absolutely stunning. but they had one job here... all they had to do is make the game look pretty and maybe add a few quality of life things. But no they removed the ability to pick up enemy weapons and didn't add a way to find them or get them in some way (so no more sniping people with muskets, or going absolutely berserk mode with that sick giant axe lol) the newly added missions reek of modern day ubisoft and while they aren't the worst gameplay wise the writing…

Still the best pirate game (although literally the only one worth mentioning in that category xd). The game looks gorgeous graphically, although the open world feels kinda dull and boring. The combat is the worst part of the game (which is ironically the most important thing in a game for me), yet I still finished it. It's an okay game, nothing crazy about it. I used to like this series much more when I was a kid.

Game is good. Ubisoft sucks. Can't play offline at all. When the internet goes out, game does not work because the Ubisoft launcher. The game also just randomly doesn't open due to Ubisoft launcher failing to authenticate it. Gotta launch it like 4 times before it opens. It's easier being a pirate. In the game, of course.

Can't say much about the game itself but f**k Ubisoft for this DLC policy. I even bought the Deluxe edition and thought thats about it. BUT NO, AN ADDITINIONAL 60€!!! for DLCs at launch. What a joke, go to hell. Edit: There should not be optional cosmetic DLCs in a paid single-player game. Period. In my opinion, the only acceptable DLCs for paid single-player games are actual expansions, like those for The Witcher or Factorio, not content that feels cut out on day one and sold separately at…

A Great Remake with a Greedy Price TagAssassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynched is a great remake of an already great game. The lighting looks better, the textures are cleaner and the small gameplay changes make everything feel smoother without losing what made the original special. Black Flag is still one of the best games in the series. The pirate atmosphere, naval combat, exploration, music and Edward Kenway all hold up. If you never played the original, this is an easy recommendation.…

Some games remind you why you fell in love with gaming in the first place. The original Black Flag was one of those games for me, so I've been looking forward to this release ever since it was announced. What really killed the excitement for me, though, was opening the store and immediately seeing €85 worth of DLC's on the first day. I don't mind paying for extra content when it's released later, but having that much paid content available from day one just feels greedy and leaves a sour first…

NOT RECOMMENDED — unless Ubisoft restores the missing combat mechanics from the original game. I really wanted to recommend Black Flag Resynced. Visually, this game is absolutely gorgeous. The environments, lighting, water, character detail, and overall presentation are fantastic. Seeing Black Flag brought to life with modern graphics is something I have wanted for years. But a remake should not look better while giving the player LESS freedom than the 2013 game. Some of the most memorable…

I'm kinda disappointed with the remake. So far I'm about two hours in, and it really shows that the original game didn't need a remake. Here are a couple of positives: - The graphics are nice. - There are a couple of new missions that weren't in the original game. - No multiplayer achievements, which makes getting 100% completion possible. And unfortunately, here are the negatives: - The game stutters quite a lot, and it feels like it's for no reason. - The combat doesn't feel enhanced. My…

The worst DLC and microtransaction system I've seen in a long time. On release day, I was immediately greeted by DLC package pop-ups totalling around €84 in the Steam Store. They also include gameplay-related features, ship customization, sailing equipment, and other additions that affect the overall experience. I purchased the Deluxe Edition…

For anyone who says, "just don't look at the DLC list" or "Who cares if they didn't add it to the deluxe edition" is not getting the point. It's about the fact that on the day the game drops they release 80 dollars worth of "extra content" instead of using that content to better the game for everyone. It just shows what ubisoft has done and represented for like 12 years now... that they prefer the money grab to the game experience for all players. And even the ones that pay extra for more…

I honestly don't dislike this game, but calling it a remake feels like too much. There's definitely improvements, but also some things I consider massive downgrades. Pros: - No single island feels useless compared to the original. Almost every island you visit, even ones not marked on the map, has something for you to engage with. - Visuals (obviously) - Being able to go underwater for exploration - New content like missions and cosmetics, just more content in general - Not filled with…

Well, I should probably start with a little misunderstanding…, I had never actually played Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which is rather ironic, considering that it is precisely the kind of game I should have played years ago, I work in history and archaeology, with a particular specialization in the societies and historical dynamics of Alaska and the North Pacific, so questions of maritime mobility, territorial…

Negative reviews about this game are focusing on stuff that does not matter. The opening cutscene that you see before creating your save is locked at 30 FPS, the in-game ones are NOT. There are some DLC packs in the game that do offer you weapons and trinkets that have different perks. They are no better than anything you can find in the game, so they serve functionally as skins. They are completely optional in a game that does not have RPG scaling mechanics and one that is not very difficult…

What’s worse is that I got a pop-up in game labelled “Tutorial”, directing me to store. Yes, there’s a tutorial on how to buy DLC! Absolute disgrace. Don’t need that crap in my singleplayer games. It's still the same old Black Flag from 2013 at heart, but god the visuals. Ray tracing here does things that Shadows, which came out just a year ago and already looked incredible, couldn't. Resynced is not bad if you ignore the new added content. Going from the story you loved since 2013 with mocapped cutscenes and good dialogue, few tweaks here and there with missions and gameplay while having no modern day sequences (depends on the player tbh, for me personally I never cared for those). And then you move on to the brand new added content, which will make you feel insane cause it will remind you real quick how lazy and unoriginal modern ubisoft has become.

You'd think too much. Someone saw this bady of a remake and said that you need 20x DLCs, each 9,99€. Like ok, the gameplay is improved, you can follow people in story without pressing something, it looks gorgeous and you can remove and edit this annoying HUD elements. It's fun, but who was the…

so far, dlc at launch that cost more then the game itself combined, and already several visual bugs like the assassin just walking off the ledge and gently floating down with his walking animation instead of jumping down. and I aint even halfway through the opening level. i really should just refund this, but my desire for a half decent pirate game to scratch that itch while i wait for windrose to get more content is overwriting my common sense so i guess ill wait and see how it goes...…

It's everything I hoped for a Remake. +No rpg mechanics +No overwhelming collectable hunt +Looks absolutely stunning +still feels like Black Flag +Combat is fun and not as annoying as in Shadows Edit: Picking up weapons and using hidden blades for combat is missing here, if that's important to you
