This is a hard game to review. A lot of games I don't review, but there are some I do feel the need to, as a personal encouragement or warning to others. Problem is, this game is both. It's a solid retro RPG with very high production values, from art to music to game mechanics. Which may make the faults more glaring, since everything else is just so darn good. I do love the game but yet my recommendation of it is cautionary in nature. For instance, the main hero comes across as whiny and…

Every now and then we come across a game that takes us by surprise and reminds us not to be so quick to judge. Asguaard is one of those games. At first glance, this old-school RPG fantasy game from [url=http://www.aldorlea.org/index.php]Aldorlea Games looks like a small indie title that you would expect to offer you a few hours of simple gameplay. I assure you that's not the case. I have been pleasantly surprised at how much depth this game offered. Asguaard is a diamond in the rough, a…

While this game is not terrible, I cannot recommend it at its normal price. I purchased it for 75% off and feel like I got my moneys worth. If you see it for a big discount and like old school rpgs take it for a spin but don't expect much. Some issues i had: Main character is sort of annoying Dialogue just seems a bit weak Battle system is generally unimpressive Story is pretty weak Ending is rather bad and short I am sure a lot of work went into this but unfortunately I can't recommend it.…

Story boring and juvenile, cinematics drag on forever with poor development. Not as much customization as they want you to belive, only gives you two set choices for weapons with each character. Going to continue playing and see i can handle anymore of it but one hour in and I've played few things more dull. I love the era of 16 bit games but even for nostalgic value this game is far to flawed to be enjoyable

HUGE and detailed world. That's what defines Asguaard and makes it stand apart. No sidequests. Not this time. You have a mission - a boy summoned in an unknown world has to stop its destruction. And little time for it. Your quest takes you through the whole vast world - from snowy montains to lowlands, to deserts and tropical caves, to deep caverns. And even deeper ... At first sight you might think there aren't many RPG elements in Asguaard. Only levelling and nothing more. No character…

I feel the need to write this review as a disclaimer since I didn't see any other review touch on it. This game gets everything right when it comes to old school RPG's except one thing, the story. While the general story concept is a cool idea, it was delivered terribly. Characters in this game come off as flat and obnoxious, and at some times completely lifeless. The dialogue is poorly written and your objectives don't usually make sense. Also some of the main plot points are just absurd.…

Asguaard has arrived on Steam, and it is easy to see why it is Aldorlea's most popular game. This game is a complete masterpiece that offers a marvelous storyline that is long and involved featuring excellent character development, interesting plot lines, tons of exploration, and, of course, great battles with a huge arsenal of monsters to deal with. As with all rpgs, so much depends on the story being told. And this tale of dwarves that summon humans to fend off the plagues being released by…

Asguaard is like paradise for everyone who loves to explore! The story is very nice. Asguaard is a land of dwarves and fairies. A wonderful place, but now in danger because the Pandora Box has been opened and seven plagues are about to destroy the land. Only a human can save the world and the dwarves manage to summon even two of them, Glen and Rayanne. Accompanied by the faithful dwarf Grom and a little unicorn they set off to find what's necessary to prevent the worst from happening. If I…

I bought the game on sale, based on previous reviews. I can deal with annoying characters, but what I can't deal with is extremely frustraing controls, which I did not see mentioned in any previous reviews. Movement is done only by clicking on where you can to go, and if there's an obstacle in the way, you won't get there. The path it takes seems kind of random at times, it'll turn to the side instead of making a straight line. I would have played for longer if the movement was not so…

Do I recommend this game? I have no idea whether or not to recommend it. But it has many faults, for instance, the ability "Splash All" Learned by Grom, (A dwarf, not an orc) Says it only hits one enemy, but it hits all your enemies. As the name would suggest. The map is abysmal, just a blurry vague mess that doesn't really direct you. When you get to the crystal cave, start sobbing, it's quite early, but you will spend a lot of time getting lost in there, a map would be useful, but....…

I started playing Asguaard when it was released in 2011. It was a bit slow to start, but once I began following the story it really sucked me in. I have no idea how many hours I spent with it, but I guess it must have been around 50. The game is a special treat for fans of jrpg. I am generally not such a big fan of them myself, but Asguaard has become one of my favorite role playing games of all time. I can only recommend it to any genre-fan who is looking for a deep story and does not…

Asguaard is a potentially-intriguing retro RPG that suffers from a bad case of quantity over quality. It has an expansive world, with no usable world map and several areas with caves full of monsters that will kill you in one hit if you wander into them while going through the otherwise-on-level area. It has sprawling dungeons, with no way to keep track of where you are other than pencil and paper, and where the only healing points inside cost half of your gold (literally, that's how they…

If you're already familiar with Aldorlea, then you know what you're dealing with here, and having also played a number of their other games, I can say that this is their magnum opus. Vast world with oodles of nooks and crannies to explore, cute characters with similarly endearing dialogue. As with other works from Aldorlea, the story is perhaps somewhat childish, even naive, but hey, oldschool JRPG fans like myself will still get plenty of kicks out of the smooth, almost beautifully chaotic…

7/10 Good game, very big and long since I'm still far from the end and yet quite a lot of time I already put in. I like the gameplay mechanismis but tt's a bit difficult with vast areas and sometimes (too) strong enemies. Save often to enjoy a pretty good story of a beautiful girl and her teen friend exploring a new world.

Only a small ways into this Aldorlea game, but that is because it's huge. It's a game that recalls the old style 16-bit classics that features just about anything you could have asked from those games. - great storyline that moves the game. - tons of locations. - really good characters that are fun to play and interact with. - different choices of weapons and skills and the how and when of their uses. - so much detail and exploration, including secret areas and rooms. - artwork is excellent. -…

I'm not gonna say that this was the worst RPG I've ever played, but it did make me want to bang my head on the desk repeatedly. While I didn't mind the overall idea and gameplay, the storyline was painful. It often seems as if the dialogue will never end. Plus, it is poorly written and possesses poor sytax making it akward to read. Furthermore, the maps are often confusing and difficult to naviagte and I cannot begin to tell you how frustrating it was to continuously have to walk back and forth…

This game is wonderful. I've spent a long time playing it and I really enjoy it. Not all characters can learn the same skills though, so you need to be aware of that. Like Glen's XP learning boost. Only goes so far. Haven't finished the game yet and I'm sure there's still a lot left to do, but I'm really getting into it. Also, if you really want to find all of the secret locations, then I highly suggest buying the extra goodies pack. You get the strategy guide and a save file with all of the…

RPG Maker strikes again! Asguaard is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine…

Aldorlea puts a lot of heart and thought into their games. Asguaard shows this... even if the results aren't completely up to par. See, the game has a lot of hidden locations and rooms, and without the guide, those might be a bit difficult to find. You are a teenager (name thyself), who has been summoned to this world by a group of dwarves to try and save their world from the plagues released from Pandora (or Pandora's) Box. As such, you are a whiny 15-year-old who isn't so happy about the…

I've only played just the beginning of the game so far, but there are certain things about the interface that I dislike. I like the artwork, and so far the story is fine. 1. I like having hot keys to get to items quickly, instead of going in and out of the menu. 2. I don't know if it is just my game, or a glitch or what, but my enemies are invisible? there is no way to avoid them when I'm walking around because I can't see them. They aren't very hard (so far) but I don't like fighting all…

I am writing this review due to receiving a free guide. I've played lots of RPGMaker games and several Aldorea games. Aldorea games are enjoyable but they usually stick to their game mechanics with each game which i personally don't like. To explain: The biggest peeve i have with Aldorea games is that they hide way too much stuff; areas, rooms, gear, items, money. This leads to 2 problems. With such a large amount of hidden things they force you to buy the guide to be able to get a complete…

Very interesting game, which we presented to the company Aldorlea Games. This is not the first game of the companies in which I played and I can say that it is adequately keeps among similar games of the genre, and not inferior to his predecessors. I like the panache of the game and of course her story. A small drawback is the absence of other localization of the game, therefore, requires knowledge of the English language. Recommended ONLY if you really love the *early* Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior games. I do, so I recommend. The good: Gameplay style is nostalgic of the early Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior games. Graphics are of similar quality. Music is reasonable and doesn't exhaust you as you hear so much of it. Except in the final dungeon. The not so good: The dungeons feel ridiculously long. The game is so easy it's a joke. 100 hours of gameplay? NO WAY. I took less than 40 hours start to…

Asguaard, developed and published by Aldorlea Games, is an expansive, retro-style RPG that places a strong emphasis on exploration and scale, offering an experience that feels both ambitious and demanding. Built using RPG Maker, it follows a familiar premise of a young protagonist drawn into a magical world facing a looming crisis, but the narrative quickly takes a back seat to the game’s true focus: a vast, interconnected world filled with secrets, hidden paths, and countless optional…

"Asguaard," a JRPG with potential, ultimately falls short in delivering a well-rounded gaming experience. Its high points, such as appealing tile art and an engaging battle system, are overshadowed by a plethora of drawbacks. The game's use of skill trainers offers a unique twist to character development, yet this feature alone can't carry the entire experience. Regrettably, the character art is a significant letdown, lacking in professionalism and resembling amateurish, middle school-level…

I liked this game. It's far from Aldorlea's best, if you ask me (Millennium and the Book of Legends are favourites) but I'm fond of it all the same. It's very focused on exploration, having an overwhelming number of hidden secret areas and rooms across the game. And plenty of optional areas to explore you never need to visit. An ethereal journey through a fantasy world. The plot really takes a while to get going, and I wouldn't say it's super great, but it has its moments. This is more of a…

I played this game recently and in the end would recommend it with a caveat. Its an old game on an old engine. If you are the type who insists all games run at 3560 x 2440 or whatever the hot resolution is now at 144 fps or whatever, forget it. This game first came out almost 15 years ago before any of that existed, using an engine that had no idea those resolutions would ever exist. This game, after dancing my way through Aldorlea games, was the one with least excitement and not because it is bad, but because of how free you are inside of it. Most games have open world features, but this one leaves and open skill feature that may get in the way of most of the story, since you are hunting the world after skill evolutions. The story is good, I just don`t like how it ends (and don`t blame it on the unicorn, PLEASE). IF you like solid retro RPGs, this is one you must play…
