Any Given Sunday
A star quarterback gets knocked out of the game and an unknown third stringer is called in to replace him. The unknown gives a stunning performance and forces the aging coach to reevaluate his game plans and life. A new co-owner/president adds to the pressure of winning. The new owner must prove herself in a male dominated world. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →I have not been this excited for a movie since I was an extra in Any Given Sunday (but also that’s an ominous comparison because I didn’t make the final cut and also I hated the movie (possibly related)). Anyway! Redeem my hope, Eephus movie!!! variety.com/2024/film/gl...
unlabelledView post →Also: the racial dynamics of the movie sound less interesting than Any Given Sunday, where the older white "legend" and the young Black dynamo learned from each other, rather than one capitulating. The movie also critiqued racially coded received wisdom about "proper" behavior by athletes.

unlabelledView post →I rented Any Given Sunday and I’ve been trying to watch it, but it’s just not a remotely good film — don’t think I’m gonna finish. I hate saying that a movie has “aged poorly” since I think films very frequently improve with time. But my god, this is such a product of its time that I can’t connect.

unlabelledView post →"These ideas were handled far more gracefully in Oliver Stone’s ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, which understood how to critique a system while worshipping its results." Well, this movie doesn't want to worship the results so jot that down !
unlabelledView post →I was today years old when I found out that Diddy lost his lead role in “Any Given Sunday” to Jamie Foxx because the director of the film, Oliver Stone, thought Diddy lacked any physical traits and could not throw a football lmaooo.

unlabelledView post →Is F1 a good movie? No. The plot is a paper thin ripoff/mashup of Top Gun, Any Given Sunday. But the racing sequences are awesome and it has Kerry Condon. RIP Luck.
unlabelledView post →The point isn't that simulated catch wrestling is not athletics. Clearly, it is. The point is that ESPN reports on WWE like it's football rather a night time soap opera featuring simulated catch wrestling. It's like if you reported on the movie Any Given Sunday like those were real games.

unlabelledView post →35.) ANY GIVEN SUNDAY (1999) - Oliver Stone cuts a trailer for his football movie which effectively convinces you, for two minutes, that football is the Most Important Thing In The World, even if you dislike football (which I do)
unlabelledView post →This was made in 1997, and Oliver Stone’s only passable film afterwords was Any Given Sunday, which is a dead-cat bounce. U Turn lends credence to the hypothesis that Natural Born Killers permanently wrecked Stone’s writing ability (cf. Frank Miller & Sin City)
unlabelledView post →Well, I don't know. I mean, if any football movie is overwroth, it's ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, so if you're not up for that on general principle then you're probably fine continuing on as you have been.

unlabelledView post →You never know the coach might bust out one of those Al Pacino Any Given Sunday speeches at half time in the locker room. I would just show it from the movie on an iPad Pro and make them all watch it.
unlabelledView post →Then she had to certify the election results too. That must have been tough to do. If you need a pick me up, when feeling blue - then, watch the AL Pacino famous speech from the movie Any Given Sunday. We may "be in hell right now, as Al says in that scene, but we will fight back into the light!"
