negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game forces you to make a ubisoft account. The ubisoft connect launcher is total garbage. Somehow my account details are incorrect, while im 100% sure they are correct. After this i change my password, it tells me its succesfull. Yet when i try to log in with the new password it again said details incorrect and suspended my account
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Strict requirement for Ubisoft Connect upon every launch... for a 17 year-old game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why do i need UPlay on Steam to play a local singel player game?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No one. Not one single person outside of the Ubisoft board room wants Ubisoft Connect. Stop trying to force your marketplace onto people.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never support Ubisoft and their anti-consumer policies
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game requires you to create a Ubisoft account, which you may randomly be locked out of if the garbage launcher doesn't play along. Shame, I remember really liking this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs a ubisoft login which I missed on the store page and I honestly did not expect such a ridiculous requirement for a game this old. Anyway ubisoft connect keeps crashing for me and there is no way around using it, offline mode requires you to log in first because logic... Refund was denied because I made the request 2 weeks after purchase so now I can't do anything with this because of ubisoft's garbage. If you are interested in Anno 1404 rather check out the DRM-free Anno 1404: Gold…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to thank Ubisoft for wasting my time and not allowing me to play a game I paid for in the evening when i wanted play it again after 4 years. They deleted my Ubisoft account and created a complete mess with licence and connection between steam and Ubisoft. Total garbage and waste of my time, totally unnecesary
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Singleplayer? ♥♥♥♥ you too, Ubisoft.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great but why does it need the Ubisoft launcher? It just adds extra hassle to an otherwise great game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game refuses to boot up no matter how many fixes I try. I'm unable to get a refund either so I'm just left with a useless piece of software that crashes before I even the game window pop up.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is a great 5 out of 5. The scenario's are fun. The gameplay is a huge upgrade from 1701. The interaction between orient and occident are so cool and full of hope. One can't really say anything bad about it, just a little nitpicking here and there. Also wishes for more content as the game is so well made. I totally recommend the game, but know this a well: I also owned Anno 1404 (+Venice) before the History Edition came out. First: It's quite the audacity, that one needs to "buy" the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Caunt launch without signing in to ubisoft account. It wont launch on windows or steam deck for me because of the ubisoft connect launcher. ubisoft confirmed history edition is only available via steam or ubisoft store, and gold edition does not have multiipayer. I have 8 hours playtime on my acct, thats from a few years ago. DONT BUY THIS. ITS BROKEN BECAUSE OF UBISOFT LAUNCHER CRAP. Ubi Milky Jul 20, 2022 @ 8:57am Thanks for sharing this extra info moral compass, the GOG versions of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is good, I really like it, but this is for being exposed to Ubisoft Connect. And Ubisoft Connect poping up lika a malware it is.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anno 1404 - History Edition is, in my opinion, still the best entry point into the Anno series and one of the finest city builders ever made. It strikes a near-perfect balance between accessibility and depth. The game can certainly be challenging, especially once production chains start expanding, but it never feels overwhelming. There is always another problem to solve, another island to settle, or another trade route to optimize, and that's what makes it so addictive. One of the things I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a very great and fun game that I would recommend to anyone that likes city building although I'd recommend to get it on GOG instead, the Ubisoft DRM is so crap that you won't even be able to play 50% of the time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ubisoft just killed "Stop killing Games" in the EU, thx for that!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anno 1404 and The Money-Making Machine 200+ hours in one solo Continuous game. 98% of the play I’ve had negative balance (it’s Taxes – Maintenance). Back then I had -5,000 balance, some time after -15,000, then -35,000 and now -45,000, and at the same time my treasury is 285 million. I don’t remember how green positive balance looks like. Anno 1404 is about trading, not taxing your population. Yes, you can tax your population, but what you’ll get are scraps of money. And it’s nice to see your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My peasants are starving while I export bread for profit. Finally, a game that understands modern economics. Immersive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Technically, it's a very good game, but the plot of the campaign: Christians are bad, Muslims are good...therefore negative
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend, despite it being a great game, because, lo and behold... you need Ubis always-on excuse of a crappy publisher-launcher (Ubisoft Connect, if someone didn't get it) Over are the days, where you met with a friend and simply played over LAN with them. And don't even think about playing ANY of their games without internet connection, oh no you won't. (maybe, just maybe the really old ones) But wait, it gets even better with their launchers features! There are also technical…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WHY WOULD YOU REQUIRE ME TO LOGIN WITH A UBISOFT ACCOUNT AND THEN THE UBISOFT LAUNCHER DOESN'T WORK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?! IT WOULDN'T LET ME LOGIN EVEN THOUGH I USED THE CORRECT ACCT, AND SO I COULDN'T EVEN PLAY THE GAME!!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU????
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never played an anno game before, the game has no tutorial and gives you no clue what your suppose to do (send out an arsonist, okay how?!). If you dont want to lookup an tutorial would not recommend. EDIT: apparently your suppose to start the game without addons, only then can you use the tutorial. Still would have been nice if that was told to you anywhere in the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best Anno game. Played hundreds of hours of the original and Venice. Runs well and looks as I remember it (so probably a little better).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ubisoft. Enough has been said.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People have been begging for 5 and a half year for Ubi to get the achievements (which pre-exist in the game) onto Steam. No reaction. They don't listen to fans. Just get an old version on eBay or something. It'll still run great. Also crashes a lot under Windows 11.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best game in the Anno series!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i went back to this game when the later versions got too complicated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anno 1404: History Edition is a refined version of the acclaimed city-building game, offering a blend of deep strategy and immersive world-building. Set during the Age of Discovery, players are tasked with establishing and managing settlements in both the Occident and the Orient. The game's core mechanics revolve around balancing resources, expanding territories, and navigating complex trade networks. The addition of the Orient introduces new production chains, goods, and architectural styles,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →super gay that i have to use ubisoft login. not doing that
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Being able to play this game without the memory leak means you can actually play late-game and not have to reload every 20 minutes or risk crashing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is fire. You think you're paving roads for carts, but in fact you're paving pathways in your brain.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the only annoying thing is the ubisoft connector app in the background
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unplayable with Ubisoft connect
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best city builder game I have ever played. Really easy to understand, has lovable characters and a really fun campaign. Would definitely recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game plays decent, not a fan of Ubisoft 3rd party registration to play though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game; works out of the box with Fedora 44; only a ubisoft account is needed for which reason ever...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game doesn't have a tutorial, which makes it an absolutely pain to play to new comers. I'm so sorry I spent money on this. Uninstalling in 3.. 2... 1...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great, beautiful historic sim game. Not overly complicated with micromanaging. Sandbox or scenarios.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Positiively addictive, graphics still hold up in 2025
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best Anno and no annoying dlcs needed
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still the best Anno game. For me at least.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't trust the usual "Needs ubisoft Connect blabla negative review", this game is a pure gem, I played 117, 2070 and 1800 but this one is easily my favourite Anno ! Campaign with a real story and interesting, a lot of scenarios or a sandbox really enjoyable, for 5€ it's easily a good entry in Anno (as 1800 is soooooo full of content is personally just burn me out fast), you'll have a lot to do, but not TOO MUCH to do And I can't believe we had games like this when I was a kid and today we…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anno games are upgraded versions of the previous Anno games. The older you go the less fun you'll have. Just play the newest one if you want a great Anno experience. Unless you want to relive the olden days because the game runs just fine on a modern machine
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply, and aside my aversion to Ubisoft games, the problem with Anno 1404 - History Edition for me is that the font is too small and there are no unofficial ways of correcting the problem.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best city-building and empire building game I have played.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm so glad this game is available on Steam, even though I already owned the CD version. It's great to have this version that simply works on newer systems without any issues, and without having to mess around with the files to get it running halfway decently. The small additions included in this version are also very nice to have and make an already great game just a little bit better
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →🏰 Anno 1404 Is Great — But Give Yourself Time to Learn It ⭐ 7.1/10 — Recommended I really like Anno 1404, but this is definitely another game with a fairly steep learning curve. The best way I can describe it is something like Civilization meets Age of Empires. There is strategy, city building, resource management, and a lot going on under the surface. Some parts of the gameplay are very intuitive, while others are not quite as obvious as I expected. Because of that, I would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Graphics are good and the gameplay is interesting. Multiplayer is buggy but it works for the most part, I got this to see if I might want to buy the newer 1800 game, and I just might. It is a fun time but a bit micromanaging for everything,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THIS IS THE BEST GAME MY DAD OVER PLAYS IT AND I DO TOO
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anno 1404 is, in my opinion, the best game in the entire Anno franchise. What makes Anno 1404 stand out is how engaging and rewarding its gameplay is. City-building feels meaningful from the very beginning, with a smooth progression system that constantly gives you something to work toward. Managing resources, expanding trade routes, and satisfying your citizens’ needs feels natural and intuitive, yet deep enough to stay interesting for dozens of hours. The setting is another huge strength. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best anno game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a classic, mabye is simpler than other new versions but you don`t get bored,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anno 1404 is what I consider a classic city building game, and is still quite playable with decent graphics and various ways to play (sandbox, scenario and customized levels). The price is well worth it. PS: I have spent many hours enjoying this game before steam. Yes, nostalgia did prompt me to buy this game when I saw it on steam and so I am pleasantly surprised to find it still holds up pretty well!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can never get this game to load. I've had it for months and I never been able to play it. Stay away. don't waste your money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its sort of fun, BUT there is not a clear idea on what to do.. Simple things like buying seeds and not knowing what or how to plant. Then the game goes from casual to crazy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, im abit biased on this one but back in the days as a kid. I sneaked out of bed to get on the laptop of my father and start up Anno 1404. Rocking hundreds of hours, HUNDREDS when I had it still on a disk. Sleeping the next day in school because I played all night. Everytime I start up the game nostalgia hits so hard that there is a tear coming up! LOVE it
