60 of 161 · most liked firstCurrently watching- Angel Heart (1987) First time watch and from what I understand its a detective movie with Lisa Bonet's titties and horny saxophones plus Voodoo in Louisiana, maybe? Idk i guess we'll find out.
unlabelledView post →Angel Heart- Now THIS is a movie. A gripping occult noir, dripping with atmosphere and brimming with gorgeous shots. Rourke and DeNiro deliver phenomenal performances. A real joy from start to finish and a must-watch for Silent Hill fans given its obvious (and cited) influence on the series
unlabelledView post →I’ll be honest I love this stuff. Either the Hunger Games stuff where it’s very silly names or dumb guy movies where the name is what the person is. There’s that Angel Heart movie where Robert Deniro comes in looking like Satan and he says his name is Louis Cypher and it’s like lol come on lol
unlabelledView post →Film time! Revisited Alan Parker's satanic private dick flick ANGEL HEART (1987). While the convoluted plotting is a bit of a drag, the film more than gets by on Mickey Rourke's magnetic dishevelled charm (Lisa Bonet also superb) and gorgeous design packed full of incidental period detail, mmm...

unlabelledView post →Cosby drummed her off the show because she did a love scene in ANGEL HEART — a big movie break for her — and he publicly condemned her lack of morals. Infuriating then and horrifying now.
unlabelledView post →Fallen is a pretty great and stylish supernatural thriller with an amazing cast. If you like the tone of Se7en or Angel Heart, you'll love this film. For whatever reason it's not really remembered as much as other great neo-noir movies from the 80s and 90s.
unlabelledView post →Books to film 📚=🎞️ Falling Angel (1978) by William Hjortsberg was adapted to film in 1987 as Angel Heart. The neo-noir horror novel set in NYC is moved to New Orleans with a Voodoo/supernatural element added to the film. An added layer of obscure mystery is added to the movie. 🩸❤️🔥🪽 #filmsky #booksky
unlabelledView post →A24 and HBO are turning ANGEL HEART into a television series, and Zac Efron is attached to star. The series will adapt William Hjortsberg's 1978 novel Falling Angel, which was the source material for the 1987 movie Angel Heart starring Robert De Niro. Source: @deadline.com
unlabelledView post →Late night movie is ANGEL HEART. It was very controversial when it came out, but I think it's one of the best film noirs ever made. If you aren't familiar with OG Mickey Rourke, please correct that. Robert DeNiro is my favorite portrayal of the devil in this. 🎥 #filmsky #horrorsky #NowWatching
unlabelledView post →since it's oscar day, i'm remembering that the biggest groan i've ever let loose during a movie is the revelation in ANGEL HEART that DeNiro's full name is 'Louis Cyphre' -- even 'Dr. Acula' was more acceptable than that
unlabelledView post →Some of my affection is that it was a movie that my one uncle foisted on me with no additional information except, "It's Angel Heart. It's why they kicked Lisa Bonet off the Cosby show." The same uncle taped and mailed me The Sopranos (and HBO Sunday lineup) every week when I was in college.
unlabelledView post →Watched ANGEL HEART last night and THAT, my friends, is a MESS of a movie.

unlabelledView post →anyway I really fully truly don't understand the current streaming environment where every movie that anyone saw gets turned into a series. Nobody loves ANGEL HEART more than me and I don't want or need more of it! There are no unanswered questions! Leave good things the fuck alone!!
unlabelledView post →ANGEL HEART (1987) is such a perfect movie. Showed this to a couple of younger folks a few years ago for a podcast and they were in awe of "OG Mickey Rourke." Rourke and De Niro are both amazing in this. Seek out and watch this movie. You can thank us later. 🎥 #filmsky
unlabelledView post →#watched ANGEL HEART (1987) A genre blender of a film that marries detective noir and supernatural horror, ANGEL HEART is stylistically indulgent in all the best ways. Mickey Rourke had astonishing charisma back then. Every other actor in the film feeds off of his energy.

unlabelledView post →Feeling wacky. I just might make Mickey Rourke my 4-film rewatch topic of the week. Right now, I'm feeling... The Pope of Greenwich (84) Angel Heart (87) Barfly (87) The Wrestler (08) Subject to change...just a thought. #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →52. Angel Heart (dir. Alan Parker, 1987). Alan Parker has a wild resumé as a filmmaker. Oscar contenders like Mississippi Burning on one hand, arthouse rock operas like The Wall on the other, and in-between a religious horror/film noir hybrid. Mad respect for that versatility.
unlabelledView post →This might be kind of bananas but I think it was ANGEL HEART. I saw it at way too young an age and it was my first glimpse of a film that was, on some level, uncompromising in the kind of story it chose to tell. I'd largely been raised on family fare before that.
unlabelledView post →One of the best representations of Satan in film (Louis Cypher in Angel Heart a good runner up).

unlabelledView post →I’m not really a sequels guy. my wip novel is VERY heavily influenced by Angel Heart/ Falling Angel, blending the supernatural and noir aspects, but it’s also very different. I do have a short story plotted which was directly in response to an old obscure short film i saw. #HorrorWritersChat

unlabelledView post →Movie puts me in mind of that particular wave of gothic or otherwise occult horror films at the time. Similar texture. You know, films like Angel Heart, Fallen, The Crow, Lord of Illusions- That kind of gritty, bloody, pseudo-religious horror that's borderline urban fantasy?

Something that's stuck with me is the movie Angel Heart. Probably watched it too young. Learned there were no limits in horror.

unlabelledView post →Lisa Bonet - 📽️ Angel Heart (Alan Parker, 1987) This casting was the subject of much debate and controversy at the time. Revisited today, it’s clearly one of the great debuts in a major film. Bonet learned the voodoo and stood out in a film with Mickey Rourke, Charlotte Rampling, and Robert De Niro.

unlabelledView post →Fun Fact: Years ago I pitched an OWA to a studio that wanted to remake “Angel Heart.” I read the book, which the film is very faithful to, and had zero clue WHY the film needed to be remade, but ATM (Always Take the Meeting). I didn’t get the gig, but I’m not sure anyone did. Prob for the best.

unlabelledView post →The film is an anti-pagan establishment project so authenticity was not their concern. The book the Wicker Man is supposed to be based on 'Ritual' by David Pinner, and set in deepest, darkest, Devon, the cop is the killer, like in the movie Angel Heart.
unlabelledView post →Angel Heart. I also think both versions of Nightmare Alley. This really hits for a lot of stuff that straddles the film noir/horror line, since so many of my favorite classic noirs are about a guy choosing evil and completely fucking everything up.
