positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Every one has that game, song, band, movie that is generally considered to be "bad", but that they really like. Alpha Protocol is definitely that for me lol. I didnt understand the hate back in the day and I wouldn't understand it now. The acting isnt amazing, but is leaps and bounds better than many big name games. The humor was good and your character feels real. Dialogue choice actually matters, too. Game is a gem of an RPG. The lack of jumping and traversal does suck, but it is even more…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing classic game however buy it on GoG as it has superior patches that make it work on modern systems.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall: 7/10 Story: The story is easily the best part of Alpha Protocol. While at its core it's a fairly simple, grounded, yet intriguing narrative about a rookie secret agent who must decide who to trust/what kind of operative to become after being betrayed, cut loose by the organization he serves, and left to unravel a sprawling global conspiracy, it's this game's dialogue system and the sheer variety of possibilities within it that truly make the narrative stand out. Rather than relying…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alpha Protocol is a beautiful mess of a game that I absolutely recommend anyone and everyone interested in RPGs and interactive narrative to play once. Just, not on Steam. As a primary example as to why: I just finished the game's roughly 17-20 or so hour campaign using this Steam version I bought ages ago, and it says that I've only played it for 8 hours. That's because the game won't boot through its launcher when you install it normally. You have to go into your file explorer, and boot it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this title is a bit of a Cinderella story. Sure, it has some gameplay flaws, but come on, the spy story is fantastic, the RPG mechanics are compelling, and the game itself keeps you glued to the screen until the very end. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Game is great i know it's outdated graphic and gameplay but still fun for players who love + choice matter story + Basic RPG + 3rd person liner game If you love this game, here are some other games you might enjoy games are available on steam - Vanquish - Binary Domain - metal gear series - splinter cell series - rainbow six series - Aliens: Colonial Marines - Duke Nukem Forever - Bayonetta - half-life series -Deus Ex series - saint row old games similar to alpha…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Splinter Cell turned RPG is the best way to describe Alpha Protocol. In most RPGs it is only your final choices that determine how the game ends, and your in-game choices do not significantly affect how the game develops as you play it. In contrast EVERY choice you make in Alpha Protocol will affect not only the ending but also how the game develops as you play it. Your aiming accuracy is bad at first because you need to level up your skills, your weapons are bad at first because you need to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun spy game where a lot of your story choices matter. The dialogue was quite fun and quirky too. Combat or stealthing was straight forward and pistols are overpowered. A lot of people complain about this being a buggy game but I didn't experience any issues except for one boss fight. Simple reload and back into the action fixed it. Wish we could get some more spy type of games now days as they're quite fun. Recommend giving it a try if you can get this game on discount.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Older game from the Glory Days of Obsidian Entertainment. It's a touch dated but honestly not too badly. Amazingly fun story. If you ever wanted to be a spy or just like the genre - this is a classic. Still fun and good in 2026. This is one of those games that EVERYONE should play at least once...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The hacking mini-game in Alpha Protocol is an exercise in frustration. As someone who struggles with visual tracking, I found it nearly impossible to complete, not because of poor planning or skill, but because the interface floods you with constantly shifting characters and gives you barely any time to find the static sequences. It's a nightmare for anyone with dyslexia or similar processing challenges. A game should challenge the player, not gate progress behind an inaccessible mechanic. This…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so good and also kind of bad at the same time, the atmosphere and setting is pretty good an believable. The gameplay sucks so bad if you don't edit some files to make aiming actually let you hit the broadside of a barn. I'd recommend to spec into into pistols since you'll be using it A LOT and into aiming. The bosses in the game are just ammo checks. There are cool dialogue options based on your background that you select. It's a good game, I bought this damn game for way more than…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alotta people don't like this game and I can see why, but I freaking love it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A weird, one-of-a-kind experience. While the story ultimately has to follow the same broad strokes, there are a surprising number of variables that can affect how individual parts of it play out to a really surprising extent. A lot of the game's overall feel is similar to the original Deus Ex, though without the same extreme open-endedness, and I'd recommend it for fans thereof. It's a surprisingly granular, thoughtful take on the near-future, light-sci-fi spy thriller, and really not easily…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very misunderstood Espionage RPG. Unique concept. One of a kind. You get all your favorite spy franchises blended into one delicious mix. James Bond? Jack Bauer? Jason Bourne? Mike Thorton is all of them... if you want him to be! Globe-trotting campaign with a good gameplay that is only rewarded to those patient and smart enough to specialize in 2-3 skill lines. It's the only way to get through this game without frustration. So don't shoot yourself on the foot right at the start. Absolute…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game back in the day when it came out and at that time I remember treating it like Mass Effect, largely because of the dialogue wheel. And while there are definitely some similarities this game is in its own league. I recently started getting into the 007 films and this game delivers that fantasy in spades. You can play a professional James Bond type spy, a Jason Borne middle ground or a John Wick shootout extravaganze all with variations on how the narrative events in game will…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My time on Steam does not do this game justice. If this was on a platform, I've played it on that platform. This was almost pure perfection. Everything has it's own quirk, the combat isn't 100% straight forward, the hacking, bypassing, and lockpicking are all their own unique systems. And when you start playing all of it feels awful. For the full experience start with the "rookie" profile. You start with zero skill points and zero skills. It's ridiculous. You can't shoot, can't fight, can't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is an ambitious buggy mess. I would have loved to go back and do another play through after finishing on Rookie if the gameplay actually worked. The balance is way off - hacking mini-games are not optimized for PC, mooks in later stages can kill the player character very easily. This quickly becomes a grind of find cover, take headshots with your preferred weapon. I went with assault rifles, but apparently pistol can become stupidly overpowered if leveled. I wanted to do a stealth…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alpha Protocol is one of those hidden gems you stumble upon when you're looking for something similar but different. The game feels like a mash-up of Mass Effect and Mission: Impossible, creating an action-espionage RPG full of quirky but 2 dimensional characters and few but memorable locations. The plot lost me a few times, but damn, it’s interesting and fun. What really surprised me, though, was how much your decisions actually matter. The choices you make lead to different outcomes in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An ambitious, glorious, hot janky mess of espionage gaming that is one of a kind! A game where you choose between being Bourne, Bond, or Bower and can die by making poor choices in conversation without about two dozen different ways to make your way through the game as you crouch hobble from point A to B, with mini games that make you cry depending on your control setup. It sounds like I am being negative, but this is actually one of the most unique game experiences you can have, and it gets…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Inspired by Deus Ex, the balancing how you talk to characters is interesting and means you can be hated by colleagues or liked which is neat. The combat and stealth mechanics are good though you need to balance when to use both to progress. I stopped playing as most missions felt the same after a while go here, collect this, kill them, kill suprise backup.. get criticised or praised, cue sarcastic comment. Rinse and repeat. However despite that I really like the game, its well made and the…

I suspect its a windows 11 issue
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is an Underrated gem, it is a great game to play on Steam Deck (due to the fact that you can format to a Xbox controller in the settings of Alpha Protocol and it’s compatible to the Steam Deck controls). The gameplay might be 2010s jank, but if you’re willing to get pass that, it’s one of the best Spy/Espionage games ever just from the story and dialogue/choices alone. If you want to play an espionage masterpiece: play any Metal Gear Solid game (before Survive) or any Hitman game, BUT…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great little espionage story that doesn't outstay its welcome. + Excellent writing, it's Obsidian so the plot is intriguing and.. + The characters are memorable! Except your protag Thorton is a little devoid of personality, even when trying to be suave it's cringe but eh. + Great choices and an active, pacey dialogue system always keeps you on your toes + Graphics still hold up after 16 years good Gods it's been a while - Final 'boss fights' are dumb and betray your personal skill…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Of all the games for Obsidian to be remembered by, Alpha Protocol is unfortunately slept on. The overall gameplay and core can be very clunky sometimes, often finding more ways for the game to break or display rather janky animations. However, at it's core, the story and system presented for how you create your character, the ways you deal with situations and enemies, it is a wonderful relic of its time. Not many games tackle the spy genre in this particular manner, and Obsidian doesn't get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really saddening that this game has more soul than a lot of current games. It's just beautiful gem of a game. Thank you Obsidian for being goofy as heck with this game at the time, I know the devs were having a blast making it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alpha Protocol – A Hidden Gem That Deserves a Remake Story: 8/10 Alpha Protocol’s biggest strength is its branching narrative. You play as Michael Thorton, a secret agent caught in a web of conspiracies, betrayals, and international intrigue. What makes it shine is the dialogue system – your choices really matter, and the consequences ripple throughout the story in ways that still feel unique today. The replay value is outstanding because each playthrough can feel genuinely different.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alpha Protocol is a good old game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It isn’t often that a game has such a steep upward trajectory as this one. The first few hours are honestly rough. You aren’t given much to be attached to in terms of characters which means what you’re doing has to be carried by the gameplay… and it won’t be: That is because this is an action RPG that’s on the heavier side of RPG mechanics. Everything you do is determined by your skill points. Yes, you’re the best of the best, but until you level up you’re going to shoot like you have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a diamond in the rough, but it shines through the story. Everything else is alright, but there's a lot of bugs. Some mods might help with those issues, and I think the game is more enjoyable with some of the community tweaks. Still, i'd recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I could rate this any worse I would, no matter how bad I've already rated it. This game is only worth it if you absolutely must throw $20 down your garbage disposal and you don't have access to any cash. Edit: I changed my mind, even you like bad games with horrible bugs, this "game" isn't worth a dollar. This port might as well just be a screen that says "♥♥♥♥ you buy an PS3" for how little effort apparently went into making it playable or even functional. This port has single-handedly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On a widescreen monitor, the game's UI (not HUD) extends past the top and bottom of my screen, making things at best unreadable or at worst unplayable due to buttons being offscreen enough to not be able to click them. To a lesser extent, the default FOV feels kinda small and when I was editing .ini files I somehow made cutscenes zoomed out, which in turn ruined them. I wanna like and get into this game as I got past most tutorials and also installed the "Alpha Protocol Revived" mod for an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, the plot and narrative are exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from folks behind Mass Effect and New Vegas. It's got good pacing, and doesn't take forever to get through. Plus, there's enough agency (ho ho) and multiple choices to make replays worthwhile. Channel your inner Bond, let out your Jason Bourne, or just Archer it up the whole way through. Sometimes annoying the hell out of people will actually get you better results. When a lot of people say they don't like the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is still the most underrated game in history. It's so good, with its multiple outcomes and and story twists, that you decide. It's simple and basic enough for a casual player, but there's enough depth you can really dive into it too. This game needs a remaster and a sequel. Maybe a better PR team so people can hear about it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. Somewhere between RPG, stealth and action game. Not sure i'm buying into that Mass Effect comparisation, but there is a strong story and decision making element to it. Not perfect, mainly for the extremely controllery control scheme. But it is a great game, well worth living with a few rouigh edges here and there. Got most of my time in the OG release version and glad it's back after it disappeared from shops for a while. To avoid similar future trouble consider the no drm…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved the hell out of this game as a kid. The attention to detail with how the dialogue changes based on the order that you do missions is cool. Stealth and gunplay are passable, but the roleplay aspect is what this game is all about. On one hand, very cool anti-corporatist messaging warning of the dangers of the military industrial complex. On the other hand, very "of it's time": every woman can be sexually harassed and you can respond to a line about short-selling with a joke about midgets.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10game. its one of my favorites that i will replay regularly, at least once a year.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In retrospect, Alpha Protocol is a rather unique game. To this day, no one else has combined the spy genre with an RPG. It was a solid combination. The game’s greatest strengths were its mature storyline and interesting characters, while the dialogue and decision-making systems created a strong sense of actually shaping the plot. As for what hasn't aged well, the gameplay stands out; while it was bearable through the lens of nostalgia, I certainly wouldn't recommend the game for its gameplay,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this when I was younger but this is one of the best RPGs I've ever played made by the people behind Fallout New Vegas and Sonic the Hedgehonge. Excellent spy story, dialogue choices being crucial to the overall endings of the game along with general gameplay as the story goes, and lots of crazy stuff happening like romancing a Russian MILF before she tries to kill you or making the crucial decision to get gelato. From the Middle East to Taiwan, this game goes international with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I always say you need to have atleast 2 of the 3 (Gameplay, Story, Graphics) to have a good game. This game has a great story and has good graphics...the gameplay outside of the dialogue is TRASH. Straight garbage and what youd expect from a 20$ Obsidian game. its a solid 7.7/10

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alpha Protocol (2010) I have this game on the Xbox 360 as well with a lot more playtime than on Steam. You play as Michael Thorton, a recruit at an agency called Alpha Protocol. You play from the third person perspective and you can make many dialog choices as you progress throughout the game. As a secret aganet you got all the tools of the trade to help you during missions such as guns, tools and stealth. You can choose the way you wish to play. The story is fun, but the game did have a few…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game-play is a little rough around the edges but the intrigue and story is pretty good with a fair amount of player decision and choice to reflect/alter events. its a wild ride with all the characters. Would definetly recommend giving the game a chance, but be warned the mechanics aren't very fleshed out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are two parts to this game: the story/conversation and the action. The action sections are fine. They provide you with a few routes to go through a fairly linear level (this isn't a sandbox) and you can choice to solve the guard issue in multiple ways. It's fun and varied. The story and conversation aspect is where this game really stands out. It's a classic spy thriller with shadowy government agency and a wealthy company that wants to make more money. The dialogue choices chance…

It feels like being Commander Shepard's great grandfather doing Spectre business on Earth. I loved the variety of choices and how they can affect your missions and interactions with other characters. Sometimes the dialogue and emails are genuinely funny. I loved each apartment's design and the character customizability. Boss fights can feel a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is pretty okay, but great. The shooting mechanism can be a problem when hitting your target, but it depends on how many points you put in after you've ranked up. The sniper part, however, is extremely hard to aim. And don't forget the puzzles. I have no problem with the keypad/alarm puzzle and the lockpicking, but the hacking part is really the worse. Though the song Turn Up The Radio by Autograph played in one of the boss battles really pumps me up and plays rent-free in my head.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great stealth/action game with a strong story where your choices matter. I have major issues with the save system. Your manual saves only save the last checkpoint, but otherwise only your latest checkpoint will stay as the older checkpoints will get eradicated unless you manually save after each of them. For one, this system is annoying if I want to redo something a few checkpoints before, but have not manually saved in a long time. Secondly, this becomes a major issue for stealth. The…
