I bought this, and convinced three of my friends to buy it too, assuming we'd be able to play it together. We can't, because there is no multiplayer functionality. Why would you even design a video game implementation of a board game without multiplayer?? Playing with other people is the entire point of board games!

unlabelledView post →This game is NOT multiplayer. Ignore the dev website, ignore anything else you hear, it is NOT multiplayer. You can screen share, Just like Jackbox. Not the same. Not even close. How this game doesn't have multiplayer built in for a co-op game with so many possibilities, highly disappointing. Just play Dominion; the fact that you can do that with any browser and this doesn't work through Steam...disappointing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are a seasoned strategy player and are looking for a single player challenge, you should ignore the negative reviews. Most of them are motivated by a missing multiplayer online mode and the difficulty level. It took me 3 attempts to win the tutorial battle and I am a strategy veteran. So don't buy this game unless you like a challenge and are an experienced strategy player.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LOVE the board game. I have the base game and New Age. When this went on sale I bought it for my friends and I to play after we moved. Little did I know there is NO online multiplayer. You'll have to do remote play (bad idea because the other person/people don't control anything), or use a 3rd party app like Parsec and deal with the frame rate drops. There is no point in making a board game available on steam for it to NOT have multiplayer. When I looked it up on the Steam community pages,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm just going to say it - this is a Dark Souls of board games, and most negative reviews are caused by players getting absolutely owned by this *difficult* game. 1. The game is easy to learn, difficult to master. You will lose a lot, but you will also learn a lot. Pay attention to why you lost. Overran by minions? You probably should have bought more spells. Bought plenty of spells but could never cast them? You probably need to open more breaches. Don't just buy gems thinking you can focus…

The fact that you don't shuffle your deck isn't really an issue, as far as I'm concerned. Its an odd choice to be sure, but it means you rarely end up with a hand you can't do anything with (and you can view your deck and discard pile at any time). But no, my problem has to do with the difficulty. As an example I just played a game against the Carapace…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A repeat of Aeon's End, this time with a better balance of costs in the randomised setup and that definitely made for a better game. One Mage became exhausted and though we were steadily whittling the Nemesis down, that one keeps regenerating. But then our decks really started firing... #boardgames

While it may look like Break the Code is the winner by a long shot (thanks #BoardGameArena), I actually played #AeonsEnd 40 times (there are 4 more plays on page 2) and #Exceed 7 times (5 plays on page 2). #boardgames #bgstats
unlabelledView post →The game starts out so punishing that I don't really learn it. The game is a smooth digital board game adaptation but it is not really fun to get into due to the bosses just steamrolling you out of nowhere.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#boardgames night was #AeonsEnd (3P win vs Risen Thrall) and two games I haven't played since before the pandemic: Lorenzo il Magnifico (7.6/10) and The Magnificent (8.7/10). It's been long enough that I forgot where the noob traps were and got crushed in both, but they're still good. (Incidentally, the noob traps are being demonstrated in the photos I stole from BGG.) Maybe I'll bring old favorites only (2+ years since last played) to all the game nights in July.
unlabelledView post →I bought this game as I am a fan of most deck building games (I have numerous hours playing and enjoying Ascension). Unfortunately, I found this game to be relatively bland, frustrating in difficulty, and boring in gameplay. I keep coming back to it in the hopes of finally finding some success and enjoyment from the game, but having no success so far.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →try a round on beginner difficulty vs the easiest boss without serious planning and knowledge of the cards, you will still almost certainly lose. Even once you actually know how the game works pretty thoroughly (ive played about 7-8 games), and know the cards/characters and how to use them effectively (which, I guess you just have to go look up because if you want to learn on the go you will die in 5 seconds) you are still most likely to lose significantly on beginner vs the easiest boss. If…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the neat things about #AeonsEnd and other difficult cooperative #boardgames is that even when you hit a general level of mastery, it can still take a few tries to puzzle out exactly how you're supposed to adapt your play style to particular bosses, because it's not always obvious. Anyways I finally got consistent at beating this jerk.
unlabelledView post →Solid tabletop but awkward execution. UI could be much better and the tutorial is more annoying than helpful. Just go play the actual game on tabletop sim. Oh and by the way, bought the game then realized even this small thing is cut up into base + 3 dlc. Great.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: While it brings some interesting CCG gameplay mechanics, the lack of base game content and brutal difficulty make this an easy avoid. PROS: ➕Unique gameplay setup with multiple characters/deckbuilding CONS: ➖Not much content in base game ➖Not much gameplay in general - no goals, no unlockables, only a handful of cards ➖Excessively high difficulty - having trouble winning a single game vs the easiest boss on the lowest setting Content (Game world/Narrative) – [2/10] The game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good adaptation of the board game. It's a pity that not all extensions are available in this digital version. The Steam Remote feature works well, allowing you to play online with friends. Highly recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aeon's End is an adaptation of the boardgame of the same name, https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/191189/aeons-end so if you want to know more about it there's plenty of information out there with regards of how it plays. As for the Steam version it's a faithful 1-1 adaptation of the first wave of content, the Aeon's End core box, The Depths and The Nameless, as well as The New Age box. The Steam version plays well and it supports Remote Play as well for multiplayer.

Following this logic Windows Minesweeper is also a multiplayer game. Lesson learned: Next time actually check if there is a specific game mode - started learning the game and I passed the refund time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Came over to this game after getting into Ascension, Dominion, Star Realms and Mystic Vale... and I have to say I had a good blast, managing to finally beat the tutorial after two failed attempts and two and a half hours of play. Really like the more complex mechanics (over said titles) with a few mildly baffling moments followed by lots of nice Eureka moments. Gameplay was really engaging with the difficulty pitched just right. It's not too overwhelming and not too shallow either. I can see…

And cutting the cr*p, there aren't many good boardgames that are easy to learn and difficult to master. For price and quality of the game, if you are a boardgame lover, don't hesitate and buy it. There's two more currently in progress on #boardgamearena, and I assume the other three will be similarly light, so I suspect I can call it for the year in terms of top X retrospectives. (As usual, my sorting of #AeonsEnd plays by nemesis is splitting the count over multiple items, but if they were all together they'd be most played at around 360.)

Conclusion: This RNG behaves itself when it knows it's being watched. Yeah that's right. I'm onto you, you little shit. #boardgames
unlabelledView post →This card game is such a blast, challenging, infinitely replayable and works great solo! Advantages over the physical game: + Games are much quicker (10 minutes on digital instead of 45-60 minutes on physical) + Great built-in tutorial + Fun animations, unique for each bad guy My only complaint: - No online support (Had to use Parsec to play with my friend)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tonight's #boardgames were a 4P round of #AeonsEnd against one of the endgame bosses from Legacy of Gravehold (we won), and a somewhat lopsided 4P #Concordia on Ionium. No one contested me on Cloth, and everyone else contested each other on Colonists. Oops.
unlabelledView post →Game's great. Handelabra's digital adaptation works flawlessly (no bugs encountered so far) but as usual (same with all their other games) their GUI, sfx, gfx are something that will make you frown. Everything looks and sounds like an evolved web-browser game. There're no animations worth of being called so and that leads imo to a rather flat experience while playing.. and for a game where you are controlling mages that must fight against monstrosities coming out of portals seeking to destroy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the physical version when it first came out, and boy did it move slow. So I got rid of the game. Then it started getting rave reviews from all over the place, so tried the digital version, figuring they must have improved it. Nope, still a hellaciously slow paced game. Build for an eternity and then whittle the bad guy down. Death by a thousand cuts. No sense of "I'm a hero!"... just, "Well, if I sandpaper this wall, eventually I'll get through."
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is about as good as a computer game adaptation of a board game can get. The board game itself has flaws, but if you've enjoyed the game IRL, this is a good one to pick up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good implementation of a great game. If you like card games with some teeth, or you like deck builders specifically, it's a must-own! Some reviewers complain about the built-in tutorials being sub-par, and I'll partially agree with them. Luckily it's an easy fix and I'd strongly recommend anyone buying this go watch one of the available "How to play" videos on YouTube to learn the game before even firing this up. Then when you go through the tutorial it will all make sense and when…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aeon’s End, developed and published by Handelabra Games Inc., is a digital adaptation of the cooperative deck-building board game that has built a strong reputation among tabletop fans. In this version, the developers have managed to capture the tactical depth and unique mechanics that set the original apart while reimagining them for the convenience and structure of a digital platform. At its heart, Aeon’s End tasks players with taking on the roles of breach mages, powerful defenders of…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, the theme of this game (post-apocalyptic sorcerers vs. Cthulhu) does absolutely nothing for me and I wouldn't have looked twice at it except that we sell two different flavors of it (the base game and a legacy version) in the board game store I work in. I thought I maybe buy it long enough to demo it so I knew how it worked, but surprise surprise, I enjoyed it quite a bit and decided instead to buy all the DLC. If you like Legendary, it is broadly similar to that. On the negative side…

That was a LOT of fun, and made for us two custom, unique breach magi that we can use in (re-)playing the New Age box and then the Outcasts campaign. All in all, loved it. Tempted to do a custom box to hold our magi. Planning an expedition for the two of us for the next time we get to play. #AeonsEnd #boardgames #cardgames

I tried the 'tutorial', it just drops you straight into a punishing boss fight with millions of random mechanics going off, and no real explanation at all. We did a rehash of the PAST-3 boss that beat us twice last week and won, though, so at least there was that. We then played It's A Wonderful World, which is still a great drafting and cube pushing game. I also got to crack out my copy of Hand of the King, a filler from back in the day when Game of Thrones was The Thing. It's... not very good. 🧵
