Played this for a while. Did not leave that much of an impression but the exploration phases are engaging, the tower-defense waves ramp up excitement, and the mix keeps you on your toes. It’s especially fun in co-op, where strategy and coordination really pay off. While the solo experience can feel a bit more demanding and some mechanics are tighter with a partner, the core loop of building, defending, and switching characters works beautifully. I would rate this neutral if I could but I am…

There is something so incredibly boring about this game, i can't quite put my finger on it. Also I do not know why the developers went with the design decision of the exploring and collecting 4 relics before every tower defense section... it is so tedious and boring. The game would have probably been better off putting the player directly into the tower defense situations. The exploring for 4 relics stuff feels like some nonsensical padding that simply detracts from the experience. I quite…

It is a a mishmash of an action platformer and tower defense game. Meant to be played in co-op but going in solo is an option as well and it isn't overly difficult if you're good with multitasking and such, more like a decent challenge. I am not recommending this because it feels... "disjointed"? Games that try to be and do multiple things more often than not fail to do anything worth anyone's time, and that can be said for Aegis Defenders, no part of it feels fleshed out enough to take hold…

Platforming doesn't feel right because it lacks inertia, which makes it feel like a mid NES game. The weapons are weak and the tower-defence segments are needlessly stressful due to a time limit during you've to tediously collect the same resources again and build some towers. And WHY do the devs feel the need to have dropped loot from enemies disappear after only 5 seconds!? It also doesn't help that that loot jump out of the corpse in an arc which can cause the loot to drop into a deadly…

It's an interesting idea but at some point becomes extreamly monotonous. You start juggling between characters trying to get the turrets up and shoot everything but it's just not that fun. The one item that also annoyed me the most is that in the final level I discovered that if you have too many turrets it starts disspawning the first ones.

I got terrible motion sickness from the way the camera moved, especially if you switched directions often, the camera swayed disjointedly left and right and there was no option to lock the camera to the character. I had to go lie down after playing for a very short time :/.

I want to like this game more, since I know a lot of work was put into it, but honestly, this game is very hard to figure out. The hub is nice, and I think the story is interesting. The gameplay itself, though, is often very confusing and doesn't lend itself well to cooperative play. I tried, on multiple occasions, to play this with a friend, and I ended up with more frustration than I felt was necessary.

I don't understand why it has the Tower Defense or Strategy tags. It is neither. It's a platformer with multiple characters you switch between in real time, like The Lost Vikings. You also build little turrets as you go. That does not qualify as "Tower Defense". Tower Defense is a clearly defined genre, with a build phase and a defense phase, You place objects to route enemies into paths that optimize the damage of your defensive towers, and slow enemies down, so that they spend longer…

Bought it primarily for the touted Tower Defense combat which was a lot of fun right out the gate but the required puzzle-platforming aspect became more apparent shortly into the game and I don't like puzzling so unfortunately it was very off-putting for me. There was very little, if not none, mention of there being puzzling (although likely simple, for most) in this game so I feel misled. If I knew that was part of the game I wouldn't have picked it up.

You know, I really wanted to love this game. I mean, you can tell there's been a ton of effort poured into it, and the hub is pretty slick. Plus, the story? Intriguing stuff. But when it comes down to the gameplay, well, let's just say it's like trying to solve a Rubik's cube in the dark. Confusing doesn't even begin to cover it. And don't even get me started on trying to play with a buddy. I gave it a shot, multiple times, but all it left me with was a heap of frustration. Cooperative play?…

If it wasn't for the fact that i got this from a humble bundle i would have never bought this crap. Whoever thought that combining a platformer with tower defense was a good idea is out of his mind. Ohh and something even more annoying is that this has random sounds at the start of each dialogue. Ok, i get it, you don't have money for voice over. Just let the text and be done with it, i really hate hearing those annoying sounds whenever another character starts it's dialogue box.

Played it start to finish with 1 homie on hard, the first few levels, up to like the desert, are good. Maps are cool, puzzles or whatever aren't an issue and it was quite an easy stroll. Now it all worsens starting the first escort mission (there's 2 of them) and degrades to actual terrible level design until it ends (so 2/3rd of the game SUCK in comparison to the first part). Although I had my fun with this game and found 100%-ing it to be mostly fun enough, I find it difficult to recommend this game. If you buy it for the story and some casual gameplay on normal difficulty, don't let my review stop you - my gripes are primarily related to the "Insane" difficulty. For one, I found it rather frustrating to play it solo. I did not enjoy a single second of this game, my biggest issue is in tower defence you build and then watch things play out, either enjoying your victorious correct choices or getting dumped on and learning from mistakes. Here you run around gathering resources and worrying how other characters doing (played single player mode) are they "dead"? is the turret placement working? im sure in later stages you will also get swarmed by enemies so it becomes "fun", but not for me. Played this cooperatively, and gladly I have enjoyed it. It is a weird mixture between tower defense and exploration, and it just works. The only 2 things I have to criticize are: 1) At middle game, the difficulty spikes inmensely. Why? I don't know, but the mechanics are not much balanced there. 2) Voice acting is like pressing a random button between five options. It feels terribly disconnected. At the ending, even text seems like a bad formulated translation. Overall it is a really fun…

You can tell that this was mainly designed for Co-op, as solo it's very easy to get overwhelmed during the tower parts of the end-game. The AI teammates are essentially useless, the weapons are very underpowered, and the last stage is just increasingly strong waves with the exact same gameplay loop. The graphics have a solid retro look, and some of the characters are fun, but the story is not strong.

Aegis Defenders is the kind of game you usually get bundled with something you actually wanted. Easy to overlook, easy to ignore. I’m pretty sure that’s exactly how I got it through a Humble Bundle. And honestly, it surprised me in a good way. That said, I do think it’s priced a bit too high for what it offers. For the amount of content here, this feels like a $10 to $15 game despite its charm. I played my first run on Insane and it took me around 8 to 9 hours solo to clear the main story,…

Aegis Defenders (2018) A unique type of game that combines platforming and tower defense. I appreciate the idea, but I feel it would be better if some of the levels were platforming and some were tower defending. You are also forced to switch between characters a lot to complete the platforming part of the game, something that would be a lot better with people in co-op. The game does have split screen co-op so it's much better if you can find somebody to play with, its pretty miserable on…

You can customize keybindings to make the gameplay "playable," but it still headache to control. Having to control the sidekicks by your side ruins the game flow (especially in single player) when doing puzzles and planning defenses. The story is mundane and you get rewarded more points for choosing the "correct" choice, which is lame. The positive aspect of this game is the music, which is good in certain levels . Overall, I don't recommend the game and good luck trying to get a friend to play…
