unlabelledView post →How were people surprised that Ridley Scott's Napoleon movie is historically inaccurate when he also made the atrocity that is 1492: Conquest of Paradise?
unlabelledView post →You'll never be as wrong as Ridley Scott's 1492. It's literally wrong in the first frame of the film. [By showing turkeys on a pre-contact old world farm.]

unlabelledView post →1492: Conquest of Paradise. Very few people remember the movie (I still do and rewatch it regularly), but the soundtrack by Vangelis is an absolute banger. In general, his soundtracks tend to be better than the movies. Alexander is another great example. Chariots of Fire and Bounty are fine movies, but still greatly enhanced by his soundtracks. Perhaps the only movie that stood on its own against a soundtrack by Vangelis was Blade Runner.

unlabelledView post →It's a terrible film but there's a bit I love in 1492: Conquest of Paradise where a disgraced Columbus is being taunted by a naysayer and he says "That's all very well but the fact remains... I went and you didn't." (You have to mentally bracket the fact that the real Columbus was an evil monster.)

unlabelledView post →1492: Conquest of Paradise might've been a mostly bad film but it has a banger soundtrack which I must share. 📽️
unlabelledView post →If someone said "Brain Donors", I'd nod and agree that could be the worst movie someone had seen. Brain Candy, I wouldn't put anywhere near worst. 1492: Conquest of Paradise is probably the worst movie I've seen. Even more so, because I saw it for free in the theater.
unlabelledView post →It's not a good movie, but 1492: The Conquest of Paradise did also did this with Gerard Depardieu's (playing the Genoise Christopher Columbus) natural French accent setting him apart from the Spanish & Portuguese sailors he's voyaging with.
unlabelledView post →Day 7 - Vangelis - 1492: Conquest of Paradise Vangelis died in 2022, but composed many memorable pieces, particularly for film scores. This is the music I always associate with him; magnificently moody & atmospheric #DavidsMonthofMusic #MusicSky #MusicChallenge www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ufk...
unlabelledView post →That's right, music by Vangelis. We went on a Celebrity Cruise about 25 years ago and they would broadcast Vangelis "1492" as we pulled out from each port which was amazing. #HATM www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ufk...

unlabelledView post →Might just be my DVD, but Ridley Scott's 1492 looks like it was shot on Beta SP. I still have a soft spot for that film though.

unlabelledView post →Here's something I wrote about the common belief that people in the Middle Ages thought the Earth was flat. (Something perpetuated in Ridley Scott's movie "1492: Conquest of Paradise.") And it is a myth. There might even be more flat earthers now than back then 😞 #FlatEarth #HistorySky #history

This cosplaytriot saw a commercial about a movie about a time that never existed.
unlabelledView post →I trusted Siskel and Ebert on Oscar. Stallone's movie was worse than both 1492 and the modern remake of King Solomon's Mines, combined. Still resentful. I still can't believe they both liked it.
unlabelledView post →1492: Conquest of Paradise shouldve been a career ender, its incompresible that Ridley Scott got a pass for putting to film one of the most racist movies in history
unlabelledView post →PPS this film has a bizarre historical inaccuracy that it shares with Ridley Scott's terrible 1492: there are LLAMAS. Llamas being a New World animal that did not exist on that side of the world until AFTER COLUMBUS. (in 1492 we see them in Spain, but before Columbus sets out on the voyage)
unlabelledView post →It’s a fictional/mythic tale (that may or may not have happened) so I’m fine with them taking liberties and doing their own take unlike in a actual historical film like Napoleon or 1492

unlabelledView post →#3 Pale Conquerors IMO putting aside the different era vibe, I feel like this should have been the central theme in the 1492 movie. However, given Vangelis did the original soundtrack, it could be argued the "futuristic" vibe coincides with the decade the movie was made xD

unlabelledView post →I know!! It's so lovely I first met Vangelis thanks to my dad tho. Vangelis composed the soundtrack for the movie 1492 and my dad had a cassette.
unlabelledView post →This may be cheating, but Blade Runner by Vangelis wasnt released until 1994. Failing that, 1492, far better soundtrack than the film deserved
unlabelledView post →Two things for supposed "Colombus Day". First, skip the movie *1492: Conquest of Paradise*. It's a homage to the "Colombus Myth" and fictitious to the point of being harmful. Second, though, the soundtrack by legendary Greek composer Vangelis is straight-up fire🔥so maybe check that out instead

unlabelledView post →Also, finally watched Napoleon last night. Dear god, what a fucking mess. I know Ridley Scott can do history. 1492 is a criminally underrated film. But this? Even for folks with EUROPEAN HISTORY DEGREES (moi) it was disjointed and unstructured. I can't imagine non-historians keeping up.
unlabelledView post →I dozed off during 1492, and it was the last first-run Ridley Scott film I saw in the theater until PROMETHEUS in 2012, which wasn't very scintillating either. Anyway, 1492 is 154 minutes long. Wanna know what 154 minutes is? Just over two and a half hours, not "Just Over 2 Hours."
unlabelledView post →I've always loved the desperation in the sticker on the VHS box of Ridley Scott's dreadfully boring 1992 film 1492: THE CONQUEST OF PARADISE, which I saw in the theater out of a sense of loyalty after seeing THELMA & LOUISE four times: "An Evening's Adventure In Just Over 2 Hours. Watch It Tonight!"

unlabelledView post →Somehow I have a techno remix of a track from 1492 which just feels wrong. It got me thinking about Columbus, and the film. What if there was an epic 3 hour movie made that told Columbus's story, no holds barred? I'm talking children exchanged for sex toys as currency
