unlabelledView post →World of Goo 2 provides enough novel gameplay mechanics to justify its existence, but self-congratulatory tone, artistic recycling and a high price ultimately make it a disappointing experience. I've barely anything bad to say about stages and mechanics themselves. Levels provide a great sense of challenge and steady introduction of brand new toys give much needed breath of fresh air to the formula of the original game. It’s just a real shame that this game fails extremely hard on artistic…

If this was closer to 10, or even 15 USD, it'd be fine, but the 30 USD pricetag is too much. Also, the 4th chapter sucked. Big letdown when compared with the first game's chapter 4, in both story and gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to love this game so much. When it was announced at the game awards, i was literally screaming. The first World of Goo is probably one of my favorite games of all time and the thought of a sequel never even crossed my mind. When that trailer rolled, my mind was blown. Shortly after its release, I realized it was only on epic and decided I didn't need to play it THAT bad. When I saw it was finally on steam I bought it without a second thought. Playing through the game, I knew it…

unlabelledView post →It's alright. I wish Steam offered a "mid" recommendation. The first game was much better. Better story, better environments. In the first game, I felt like I was discovering a world, watching progress. MAKING progress. In World of Goo 2, I only felt like I was a passive observer, and the chapters felt so disconnected. They took out the whistle, and that makes the game much more tedious to play. The challenges felt unrewarding and too difficult for this type of game. World of Goo 2 is also…

unlabelledView post →I wanted to like WoG2 more since I have fun memories of the first game, but I think I'm leaning towards a thumbs down in this case. The good: - New fluid mechanics add a fun twist to a lot of the levels - New types of gooballs have fun mechanics - Great music and ambiance The bad: - New gooball types are pretty underutilized - (Without spoiling much) The experimental section of the game is overly long and not really what I wanted out of the game. I'm grateful there's an option to…

Even though that game was not one from my early childhood, I played it a lot as a teen and still hold warm memories about it. Nonetheless, I missed World of Goo 2 release because I am not much interested in buying games via Epic Games Store, so I waited for it to come to Steam and specifically did not google anything or…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is kino. But I hate this. Sellouts! I was so disappointed to see the Epic Games and Switch releases be a whole year earlier than the Steam release. Original World of Goo was so instrumental to the rise of indie games way back in in 2008, and now its sequel pulls this off. Disgusting. World of Goo 1's storytelling is dear to my heart, and probably shaped my artistic perception and preference much more than I understand. Other Tomorrow Corporation games respect you as an audience capable…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like the game since I enjoyed the first one a lot, but I'm just not having fun. The evaluation criteria for the achievements at the end of each level are so strict that it was extremely rare for me to get any, which really takes away the joy of completing them. They have new mechanics and ideas, which is great in theory, but I found none of them to be very intuitive and had to resort to looking up what you are supposed to do several times. The cute graphics, nice music and…

unlabelledView post →World of Goo 2 is not a bad game, and deserves to exist, but somehow it does not live up to its predecessor. For me, the original World of Goo was not only about the game mechanics, but also the atmosphere it created: On the weird edge between fun and melancholic, simultaneously disturbing and yet soothing. And as much as World of Goo 2 recreates the game mechanics of the original, and even adds some nice new ideas, it fails to create that special atmosphere of the original.

unlabelledView post →Generally more of the same with some fun new mechanics, but there are a few significant surprises. Good music, too. Some parts can be a little frustrating but if you liked the first game you'll probably also like this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I grew up with the original World of Goo. I still have my PC-CD copy. I was pretty excited for this but it fell short. The charm's not there. A big part of the original was The Sign Painter and the story that happened as you progress. No such thing here. Other than that I felt like everything was dull. Eventually you get to a point where you're playing just to see the end and I can't say it's worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved the first game - this one is just more frustrating, slower, and doesn't do anything innovative enough mechanics or plot-wise to justify its existence. Getting through the first chapter was a slog, and by then I was too bored to want to keep going.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't enjoy the Chapter 4 story sections, so I used the skip button for the first time... only to realize I can't skip the final level and have to slog through it if I want to get back to the puzzles. Also I'm not sure why but this game chugs hard in those story sections even on modern hardware (Ryzen 7700 + RX 9070) which makes it even less enjoyable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Don't mind the low playtime, I originally played the DRM-free version to completion back on release, before WoG2 was even announced for Steam). Overall, I think this game could be summarized as decent yet underwhelming, often in ways that are uncharacteristic of Tomorrow Corporation. It's kind of a miracle that it exists at all, but it's ultimately a pretty okay miracle. The game's main fault is sticking too close to the original in so many ways, especially until the later half of chapter 2,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the first three chapters, the game is solid but unremarkable: the art, music, and level design all feel like a continuation of the original, and the signposts retain their unique charm. However, since the narrative themes aren’t as profound as in the first installment, each chapter’s ending comes across as somewhat flat in comparison. The game’s themes, story, inspiration, and content mainly reside in Chapter 4. Its design, alternating between three distinct level styles, is extraordinarily…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First things first: this is a good follow-up. Not as great as I (and, I suppose, many others) would have hoped, but still worth playing - especially if you get it on discount. It is a technically polished and enjoyable sequel, which plays it a bit too safe and lacks the transformative ambition of the original. The first game is a masterpiece in the unique physics puzzle game niche. This sequel mimics a lot of what made the first game great, but does not really move it forward. Sure, there are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked 1st game. I did not know 2nd even existed due to it being EGS exclusive. But guess what? It does not matter, game now has timed levels and OCDs are set to ridiculous levels. It is not fun anymore. Creative level designs does not matter if it is no longer fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you really liked the original World of Goo, I think it's worth your time to check this out. Otherwise, I don't think this game is important enough to warrant playing it. This allegory is not nearly as cohesive and narratively compelling as the first one. It starts again with Goo as a metaphor for industrial exploitation, but then takes issue specifically with companies destroying the environment that masquerade as sustainable to deceive the public. Considering the broad scope of the first…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not as good as the original but still worth playing if you enjoyed it. New goo types are cool but the goo cannons are mostly tedious and often very exploitable to do things like get infinite goo balls. Several early levels are almost identical to ones from the first game. Each level has a time, moves and balls OCD which I would say is the only straight upgrade from the original.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game but not perfect. My issues three are thus: The soundtrack is basically just a rehash of the first game's soundtrack. This was kinda disappointing to me cause I love Kyle Gabler's music from the first game and from Little Inferno so much that it was honestly one of the main things I was looking forward to in this. It's not a bad soundtrack by any means, but just kinda disappointing to be honest. And yeah, the noir levels in chapter 4 were a serious drag. I heard people saying…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a slightly mixed recommend for me; The first few chapters comprise of mostly the same World of Goo content as the first game, and that part is fine, if a little boring at parts. But it's after that where the game gets really cool. The game could be a bigger recommendation for me if it had quick restart options, but as it is it's such a hassle to restart levels that I didn't even bother going for the ball/time challenges, as well as the optional hard levels. Even rewinding, it's kind…

unlabelledView post →If I could give this game a thumb sideways, I would. It's not a bad game by any means, it just isn't really a good one either... PROS: - The soundtrack is, for the most part, really good. I feel like there were some songs in it that just felt like lazy remakes, but as a whole I think it's one of my favorite parts of WOG2. - The new gooballs were really fun to play with. Some goo felt more fun to mess around with than others, but overall I enjoyed it. CONS: - I LOATHE The Black Stain (Noir)…

unlabelledView post →While in and of itself this isn't a bad game, it's a bit of a disappointing follow-up to the old cult classic. First boot of the game crashed half an hour in and the game refused to load via steam, had to launch via the .exe instead. Not entirely sure why- file validation isn't something that should weigh into a review score but worth mentioning in case anyone runs into the same issue and wants a quick fix rather than waiting for steam to seemingly inspect files one-by-one, since the game is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a player of World of Goo this is great; but the noir style section in World 4 is an utter snooze fest and nothing like the rest of the game. If there's a World of Goo 3; don't do that again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A perfect sequel to a perfect game. World of Goo is such a delightful, simple game. Basic physics bridge builder with a charming art style, charming music, charming loop, charming charming charming game. The sequel is more World of Goo with some extra mechanics and extra ideas; more charm, more goo. And, to my delight, after about the length of the original World of Goo, World of Goo 2 devolves into an experimental abundance of fresh ideas and interesting twists. A golf game, a pixel art…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting sequel to the first. I loved the first one, but I wish the puzzle were more interesting instead of difficult. And I was hoping more witty stuff, but otherwise enjoyable
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good. expands on the original in many ways, but the element of surprise and novelty is gone. The only real letdown is the same soundtrack, really. Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first World of Goo is still a brilliant game, and of the gems that introduced me to how good indie gaming can be by making a simplish concept endearing, funny, enjoyable and most importantly, fun. Unfortunately, the successor is a type of the game where a neutral rating would do best, because all the things that attracted me to the first one seem to be missing, especially the fun part. I hope some of the future updates address the lack of flexibility when playing and make this once again a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank GOD World of Goo 2 is coming to Steam, now the people that skipped on it due to it being on Epic can play it! As someone who bought it straight from the website DRM-free i gotta say, It's a Darn Good game
unlabelledView post →I really love the first game, I have many many hours in that, but this sequel just couldn't give me the same feeling. The core gameplay is the same, yes it works fine but, after all those years, it felt old like something just feels missing. I don't know how to explain it exactly, but the game feels a bit soulless and doesn’t have the same charm the first game had. I really wanted to like it, but sadly it didn't happen.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After completing the first two worlds it has felt too much like the original World of Goo. (Which I absolutely loved.) I'm sure the developers could have introduced the core concepts so that any returning players aren't going to be bored and won't have to replay the same content. Even slightly different level design would've been appreciated. The art is just as cute as it was in the first WoG, but I feel like the engine behind hasn't gotten any of the upgrades it deserved. Jagged edges…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very dissapointing sequel.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would give it a meh score if i could. A confused game that fails to improve on the formula.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it really has some brilliant new ideas, like those "new versions" in chapter 4 and the stage I like most is the "night factory" in chapter 3, which has great BGM and stage design But most of the contents are still copied from the previous one. I would give it 6.5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, thank you for the long awaited sequel. There will be complaints about chapter 4, but view it as an artist doing what they want, and the freedom to express. Love the game, thank you.
