unlabelledView post →once again: I can’t tell you what to do with your one wild and precious life, but have you considered that instead of watching the debate you could watch Steve McQueen’s stone-cold classic revenge-heist movie WIDOWS (2018)

unlabelledView post →Still remarkable to me how well the movie WIDOWS handles the issues of race, poverty, class, crime, and corruption in the context of a heist-thriller

unlabelledView post →Widows (2018) is such a straight-up banger of a film that in our house it is WIDOWS in all-caps. And Viola Davis should’ve won an Oscar for it.
unlabelledView post →Listen to me talk about why WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING is my favorite, and in my opinion one of the best, Chicago movies (I also gave a shout out to the @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social’s cameo in THE VOW lmao) and @812filmreviews.com talk about WIDOWS. Full convo as a podcast will post tomorrow.

unlabelledView post →or if you’re not in the mood for WIDOWS, McQueen also made maybe my favorite film of the decade so far, LOVER’S ROCK (2020) which is 70 minutes of pure splendor and among the most perfect “all one night at one party” films in history imo (and impossibly sexy)

unlabelledView post →Widows was one of my favorite films of 2018!! Incredible acting across the board. I also highly recommend Steve McQueen’s newest film Blitz, starring Saoirse Ronan. I really like how he subtly undercuts established movie genres time and again.

Aside from the 15 minute opening scene where they repeat the Antonio Bay radio station call sign KAB a zillion times i do love this film. Its perfect Maritime Gothic Horror and reminds me very much of Widows Bay which is another series i love.
