55 of 55 · most liked first! One of the "Holy Grails" of my youth is finally on STEAM. ! Chaos Gate was a LOVE of mine back at 1998, side-by-side wit the XCOM-Terror-From-The-Deep. This edition I just tested and it plays fine on my PC, at 1920*1080. The game is so good, that apart from being a cherished memory of mine, I also have played it sporadically during these decades using my revived DOS and Win XP old PCs, and also trying with some modded editions for playing on modern systems. This version on STEAM is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember this game from many years ago. Unlike many old to modern ports, this one seems to work really smoothly. It is a fun, campy tactical shooter. You will need to wrestle with understanding the interface a little bit because it is quite dated; similar, but not quite as nuanced as old X-Com. Enjoy a trip down memory lane!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I owned this game back in the day and have chased the thrill of this kind of turn-based combat ever since. It's the same game. Same bugs, same strange glitches, same intense fun. Scum-save often, especially if you're a new player who is learning the interface and how things work. With most vehicles, if you can't get it to move in the "Walk" speed, toggle it to shoot at the ground, then toggle it back to Walk and sometimes that'll fix it, especially with the Predator. Displacement is the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Could not play the game once I reached the third level the game would always crash, it's a shame as I loved this game but I cannot recommend the game is this state. Fix things before you sell things.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am so glad to find this on Steam. It has been on GOG for years but was very difficult to get it to run on modern machines and took a lot of tinkering to make it work (and even then it rarely was stable). This worked right away and with no tinkering; even on my current PC that is only a year old. This has long been one of my favorite WH40K games. I actually like it more than the Chaos gate that came out just a few years ago. The classic chaos gate is a much more simple game (obviously)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although it is the same great game, there isn't any real improvements beyond the basic making it easier to run on newer OS. A multiplayer lobby system would have been nice. All the old bugs are still in the game and things like wrong item descriptions havn't been changed.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →40k game with Word Bearers? I need it in my library now!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun Classic TBS, but new players Beware Of These Bugs... This is an old game but for fans of turn based strategy there is $15 of fun to be had here, but be prepared for dated mechanics and bugs, most of them dating back to the original I played in 98. Bugs/Glitches: Vehicles have always been broken. Sometimes they move, usually not. They will shoot and turn but good luck getting them to move around. The Landspeeder MIGHT move but you need to find the 'scroll-cursor-up-key' and move it to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the greatest old school W40k games I ever played back in the day. So happy it's on Steam and fully working, hours of fun ahead for me!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they advertised a mission editor and sceanrio editor but its asks for a cd rom everytime
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Of course I recommend. Undying classic. After all this modern crap for kids with 3 AP and stupid cover system this game feels like a fresh breath.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a negative review, but I've changed it. Two days ago, the sound in the game wasn't working. It's now fixed. It's good to see they didn't just force the old game to run and leave it at that – apparently, the current publisher not only has the source code, but is actively modifying it for better compatibility and new features (achievements, etc.)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →incredible. xcom but warhammer, retro art/graphics, voice acting, AND runs at 1920x1080. shut up and take my money
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first and the best Chaos Gate. Runs fantastic. Exactly how you remembered it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall: A solid and fun tactical game that epitomizes the early vibes of Warhammer going back to 2nd-3rd edition era if you are familiar with table top. If you are new to Warhammer or tactical games there are better entry points to those genres but if you can get around the dated controls/systems it is a solid and fun experience. Some Pros; The best part of the game for me is the rpg elements. Each marine gains xp based on how much they do on a mission and will hit breakpoints and level up.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was looking how to get this game to run just a couple of months ago! What a treat! Be warned this game is VERY buggy. There is a mission i think 8 or 9 where you board a ship with a techmarine and have to retrieve data. If you get stuck walk onto the dead chaos marine with the techmarine and press the pickup icon close that and walk up to the computer in the corner and you should be able to use the tech marine ability. Worth the money played this as a kid and LOVE this game so much. The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →must have fav for any warhammer player who grew up in the 90s. I die for the dark gods!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Issue with sound cutting out in game - please fix! Using Linux Mint with launch setting: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n,b" PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gotta love when the chaos sorcerer teleports your unit into the ground making them unusable for the rest of the mission
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was one of those shut up and take my money purchases. I played this as a kid and loved it. The game is based on super old edition of 40k but great to for your old school players. Still plays the same and so far no bugs. Good buy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate (Classic)*, developed by Random Games and published by SNEG, is a methodical turn-based tactics game that captures the deliberate, dice-influenced feel of tabletop Warhammer 40K in digital form. It focuses on small-unit command rather than grand strategy, placing you in charge of Space Marine squads tasked with suppressing a Chaos uprising. The experience is grounded in careful planning, measured execution, and an acceptance that outcomes are never entirely under…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have to give the team credit, this is a faithful port of the original. Unfortunately, this is a faithful port of the original. The nostalgia doesn't hold up for this one. This game is very much a product of its time, which means questionable design choices and hit or miss gameplay. If you enjoy the new Xcom games and don't mind pre-2000's games, you may enjoy this. Here's a list of my pros and cons. Pros: - A good variety of weapons and wargear. - Generous starting stockpiles of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game with awesome vibe and soundtrack
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crashes only half as much as the original on disk. It's perfect.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oddly enjoyable despite its age. The similarities to newer titles like Chaos Gate - Demonhunters made me feel at home instantly. The soundtrack is an absolute hood classic. Maybe a bit expensive for its age.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cute blueberries adventuring with their friends and YOU get to hold their hands through it all
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had a great time with this. Its just as I remember playing it when I was younger. One of the more enjoyable turn based tactical strategy games of the time as far as I'm concerned. Similar to X-COM but with its own twist. Brutally difficult tactical combat that reminds me I am terrible at turn based games. Had a blast regardless and super grateful for the developers for bringing it to modern systems. Would serve the emperor again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →goofy? yes. janky? yes. peak late 90s fun? absolutely. For the Emperor!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perfect classic. Much better than the new Chaos Gates
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun, honestly cute, classic. despite its bugs, it only adds to the retro experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have put a stupid amount of hours into this game as a kid, so it's extremely fun to play again. The graphics are dated, but not so awful that it's impossible to play again. Be sure to adjust them in the options, for what it's worth. It's simple in mechanics, but the execution is still a blast after all these years. I'll never get tired of chunking Cultist fodder with a heavy bolter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fan-effing-tastic x-comlike squad tactics game. Jam packed with missions, beautifully appropiate moody and ominous musical score, satisfactory weapon variety and impacts, grungy yet fittingly grimdark visuals and Space Marines you'll feel a strong bond towards, even if you're on the side of heretic or xenos. PS. Take a Rocket Launcher to the final mission you won't regret it. I only encountered 1 game-breaking bug but its a pretty rare trigger if one of your squads is missing a man so no…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great turn based strategy game with Awesome sound track
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's old, sometimes buggy and a little unclear at times. However, if you like turn base games and 40k then pick this up. It's cheap and a fun time, I never played it in the 90's but I am glad I played it now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate (Classic) — Reflective Impressions Going into Chaos Gate (Classic), I had to meet it where it is. This feels like one of those games that isn’t just meant to be picked up—it’s meant to be learned. And for what it represents, it’s honestly great. There’s a level of depth here that stands out pretty quickly. The mechanics feel more involved, more deliberate, and at times even a bit overwhelming when you’re first getting into it. It’s not the kind of strategy game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's nice to see this game get an update offering proper widescreen support. It's clunky and slow with very large maps for a turn-based squad game, and the videos can be a little difficult to watch since they're the original low-rez videos just blown up to be a bit bigger. And anyone not familiar with how the different stats work can find it a little difficult to figure out. But if you can get past those shortcomings, it's a solid game and good addition to anyone's Warhammer 40k library.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a bit clunky, it's got nostalgia carrying it pretty hard, it can also be incredibly unfair at times, but darn it, it's such a gem of a 40k game. Even the remake strayed from what made this great - goofy banter between the two factions, the feeling of dread when losing a unit mid-game, and the intimacy in analyzing stats to shifting marines around to make a perfectly optimized squad. I own this on CD, on GOG, and even bought it here. Thankfully, Steam seems to be the most stable (for now)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely a must. It's a neat little time capsule of 2nd edition 40k, and it runs wonderfully on modern hardware. I'm not entirely sure what sorcery they used to properly update it, but I've had no issues whatsoever. It's challenging, but not impossibly so, and rewards playing tactically and patiently.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THE EMPEROR ORDERS YOU TO DIE!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great turn based action strategy game where you control a number of small squads on different missions. I like the way each squad member can earn and benefit from experience. Figuring out terrain features and line of sight it key. Graphics are dated, but that really is a small point.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game. a total classic. brings back hella memories
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still a legend game. Steam has it running super smooth in 2026!! So good! Graphics maybe a bit dated, but gameplay is very solid, tactical, and punishes you for mistakes, sometime fatally! Every death counts!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →reading the manual helps
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this game, glad its fixed and sorted for modern systems, no issues so far
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ULTRA VERY GOOD!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Peak boyslop. Loving every second of it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Retro Classic Gold. As good as I remembered from when I played it back in the late 90s, I'm better at it now though. It still comes complete with all the old janky bugs too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An immortal classic, nostalgia goggles or not it just scratches a certain itch in just the right way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How is there not a remaster of this game yet.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah the power of nostalgia - loved playing this game when it was first released. So was happy to buy it when it appeared on Steam and re-live those halcyon days (the disclaimer before hand is somewhat amusing if you are a tabletop player too) this is the 40k I remember playing with my brothers - the game is simple, the Landspeeder didn't seem to be able to move during my gameplay which was a little disappointing - other then that my new age laptop and this old game worked well together. (Spoiler…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is the old game that was so interesting, without the bugs and the crashes... It is really a pleasure to jump back into such a jewel... Old games can still shine so many years after... The UI and videos were not update though. I would pay for such an update...
