The film was released only 30 years later. To a schoolboy in the 1970s, 1945 was a different age...but it wasn't that long before
unlabelledView post →Dun dun… dun dun JAWS was released in theaters on this date June 20, 1975, 50 years ago Quint’s Indianapolis sinking shark story is the most gripping visceral five minutes of film ever to grace the screen. Greatest dialogue scene in any movie ever. - USS Indianapolis m.youtube.com/watch?v=u9S4...
unlabelledView post →Not sure what my answer is but MY dad did the daddest thing: Parents are visiting. We watch a movie and we pick Jaws. Dad is silent the whole time. Then right after Quint’s dramatic speech about the USS Indianapolis, my dad turns to all of us and says with real passion: “that REALLY happened!”
unlabelledView post →Imagine you are legendary drunken English actor Robert Shaw, staggering in to work on a sure-to-flop aquatic horror movie that's gone way over budget... and your director walks up to you in his slutty little denim cutoffs, handing you rewritten lines for today. It's the USS Indianapolis monologue.
unlabelledView post →Jaws is a good movie to get high to. Cuz by the time Quint is talking about the USS Indianapolis you're LOCKED IN.
unlabelledView post →Just watched the greatest movie scene of all time - Quint's speech on the USS Indianapolis from Jaws. Just awesome, in the truest sense of the word.
unlabelledView post →Robert Shaw should have won an Oscar for the USS Indianapolis sinking monologue. It's as raw and vivid today as it was back when the movie came out.
unlabelledView post →I will always love Dan Ackroyd because I got high with him and Keanu Reeves in the Foundation Room at House of Blues and he was extremely cool, but that was legitimately the worst movie I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen that Mario Van Peebles/Nic Cage movie about the USS Indianapolis.
unlabelledView post →Have you seen the trailer for Beasts Of War? Indie shark movie about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. Someone was like lets just do Jaws 2. youtu.be/l7uhBAKjJQY?...
unlabelledView post →My favorite part of Jaws is when everyone is goofing around and Quint says he was on the USS Indianapolis and then Robert Shaw just destroys the movie
unlabelledView post →'Jaws,' the USS Indianapolis, and America in the Summer of 1975. By making the Indianapolis story a central plot point in the film Steven Spielberg introduced the story of the ship and its survivors to a wide audience, and scrutiny. www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles...
unlabelledView post →His (accurate) monologue in that film describing the experience of the sailors of the USS Indianapolis was absolutely chilling. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xO60...
unlabelledView post →The USS Indianapolis speech remains the best thing Spielberg has ever committed to film.
unlabelledView post →42 years after the movie, the wreck of the USS Indianapolis was discovered in the Philippine Sea by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. -Jeff #Jaws50 #TheMutantFam
unlabelledView post →Iconic Movie Scenes: The USS Indianapolis Story. Jaws (1975) Now just calm yourselves down youtu.be/xO60RohuARY?...
unlabelledView post →Anyway it's a fun movie! My nerd trivia comments are that 1) the reason the USS Indianapolis rescue took so long wasn't bc their mission was secret but bc Navy Command in the area fucked up, and 2) 20ft great whites are usually biologically female so Bruce the shark may be trans ✌️
unlabelledView post →There is another timeline where he does choose to do a JAWS 2 or that USS Indianapolis film, and goodness, what a bloodbath
unlabelledView post →I always thought that deleted scene where Brodie and Quint discuss their favorite X-Men really didn't fit with the rest of the movie. Especially because it comes right after the USS Indianapolis story.
unlabelledView post →1/ We watched our favorite Independence Day movie yesterday - Jaws. I post about this every time we watch it. Robert Shaw telling the story of the USS Indianapolis is one of the greatest monologues in cinematic history. It's not a flashy or action packed scene, but it is absolutely spellbinding.
unlabelledView post →Robert Shaw attempted to film this iconic USS Indianapolis scene drunk. None of the takes were usable. He called Spielberg that night and asked for a second chance. The next day he did this powerful fucking scene in one take!! -Jeff #Jaws50 #TheMutantFam
unlabelledView post →Mom and I got an urge to watch Jaws the other day, and it still strikes me that the USS Indianapolis monologue is the scariest scene in the film. It's horrifying. It's just a guy telling a story, with barely audible string music in the background, but it's an absolute nightmare.
unlabelledView post →The movie made many improvements on the book, IMO. Most notably, making Quint a survivor of the USS Indianapolis.
unlabelledView post →Fantastic portrait! My favorite part of the movie is the scene in the galley when they're laughing and comparing scars, then Quint tells the story of the USS Indianapolis, changing the tone completely just before the shark attacks again. Quint is def my favorite character.
unlabelledView post →Jaws was released in movie theaters 50 years ago today. The scene with Quint telling his USS Indianapolis story to Brody and Hooper is one of the best scenes in movie history. youtu.be/u9S41Kplsbs?... #Movies #Filmsky
unlabelledView post →The USS Indianapolis film deserved a much better movie than it got with Nic Cage just chewing scenery. Because it's an interesting story. But a god awful film.
unlabelledView post →Jaws Forget everything else and just listen to every word uttered by Quint, the shark hunter, Robert Shaw, on board the Orca, telling the true-life tale of the horrible fate of the USS Indianapolis. It's the most terrifying part of the film to me. 😊
unlabelledView post →I found out the greatest movie never made. Spielbergs original idea for a sequal to jaws was a prequel that was about quint during the sinking of the Uss Indianapolis. THAT MOVIE SOUNDS FUCKING AMAZING!!!
unlabelledView post →The next time you watch that movie when Quint is telling the story of him being on the USS Indianapolis look out the window of the boat the people on set are convinced a UFO flew behind them. You can see something it’s either a shooting star or it is a UFO but something definitely fool behind them
unlabelledView post →There's that story of Jaws and USS Indianapolis, too, many Navy survivors never said a word about until the movie covered it.
unlabelledView post →A good movie is showing about the USS Indianapolis. It was the US heavy cruiser that got torpedoed in WWII. If you saw Jaws, you'll remember the story Captain Quint spoke of about his experience on the USS Indianapolis when it sank. It's a true story. 😢
unlabelledView post →My favourite film is Jaws. My favourite scene is the USS Indianapolis monologue. My favourite line is “sometimes the shark he’d go away… sometimes he wouldn’t go away”. The shift of expression half way through that line is my favourite 0.2 seconds in movie history.
unlabelledView post →In honor of Jaws 50th Anniversary (God I love this movie) I have to recommend In Harm's Way by Doug Stanton. The true story of the USS Indianapolis that inspired & lends such gravity to Robert Shaw's iconic monologue. The audiobook is a truly harrowing listen & a perfect companion to the movie. 💡📚🩸
unlabelledView post →"The movie Jaws, much like Quint's friend from the USS Indianapolis, is divided neatly into two halves."
unlabelledView post →It goes further with a later scene where Red Death & Henchman 21 reenact the scar stories scene also from Jaws right down to RD telling the story of Movie Night on Gargantua-1 like Quint does for the sinking of the USS Indianapolis.
unlabelledView post →A USS Indianapolis disaster movie but with a slow minor key piano version of Jimmy Buffet’s “Fins”. 🎹🎶Can't you feel them circling, honey? Can't you feel them swimming around? You got fins to the left, fins to the right And you're the only bait in town🎶

unlabelledView post →Reminds me to rewatch the movie about the USS Indianapolis...
unlabelledView post →I’ve seen it at least a hundred times. My favorite scene in any movie is the galley scene and Quint’s USS Indianapolis monologue. #Jaws
unlabelledView post →What scene in a movie gives you goosebumps every time you watch it? 🎥 For me it's Quint telling the (true) story of the USS Indianapolis. youtu.be/u9S41Kplsbs?...
unlabelledView post →Brucie is just Quint in shark form. For a lot of the film we don’t see Brucie in full, not until the cage scene. Quint is just as mysterious until the USS Indianapolis scene where he finally reveals himself. Both driven by primal desires. Truly a love story for the ages #watchingtonight #Jaws
unlabelledView post →Their laughing, carrying on, you get the "she broke my heart" line as Hooper's injury and then, boom. He sees the tattoo, and we're into one of the greatest monologues in movie history: Quint and the USS Indianapolis. The scene turned on a dime.
unlabelledView post →“Jaws” has two of my all-time favorite scenes in film: the moment Brody shares with his son at the dinner table, and Quint’s monologue about the torpedoing of the USS Indianapolis. One is executed without words, the other with nothing but words. And both are as close to perfect as you get.
unlabelledView post →God the USS Indianapolis speech from Jaws still gives me chills. 50 years of scaring people and this movie still remains as engrossing as ever.
unlabelledView post →So I watched Jaws again in the end and Robert Shaw’s USS Indianapolis story still has bite - pardon the pun. And it’s still a great movie.
unlabelledView post →Thank you, lol. I'm so glad you enjoyed JAWS. A lot of times the pioneer movie can seem rote when watched AFTER seeing films, characters, or tropes it inspired, so to see this captivated you 50yrs later is fantastic. Quint's "USS Indianapolis" monologue is a work of art.
unlabelledView post →Jaws turns 50 yo today We rewatched it last night. Things I noticed: - the great score - the family dynamics, especially after having watched The Fablemans - the reverence for WW2 vets with the USS Indianapolis story www.dreadcentral.com/news/535275/...
unlabelledView post →As this movie ages with me, the scene that gets scarier w each view is Quint's telling of the USS Indianapolis. The IRL horror those men went through sends shivers down my spine. Shaw deserved an Oscar for this. youtu.be/u9S41Kplsbs?...
unlabelledView post →Hook is an underrated gem. No argument at all. Jaws, for me, is a goddamn perfect movie. It’s also how I learned about the USS Indianapolis.
unlabelledView post →The USS Indianapolis monologue is still one of the greatest things put on film.
unlabelledView post →I got over it eventually, but this movie scarred me about the things I can’t see in the ocean—but when Quint starts talking about the USS Indianapolis tragedy, oof.
unlabelledView post →There’s also a 1990’s movie, may have been made for TV, “USS Indianapolis: Ship of Doom,” (how I learned about the ship/mission) but internet search isn’t giving much info. Nic Cage eclipses all movies before him.
unlabelledView post →Totally worth the time! 90min, Aussie WW2 movie with added monster shark. Very USS Indianapolis!
unlabelledView post →Jaws (1975) is my favorite movie of all time. I don't think it wastes a single scene. I particularly like the monologue about the USS Indianapolis. Another well-written movie I'll point out is Psycho (1960).

unlabelledView post →It was so good!! See it 👀 "Horror is about the things that shouldn't be, but are." G Del Toro Robert Shaw took John Milius' 8 minute speech about the Indianapolis and rewrote it, and that's what's in the movie. Shaw was a writer, wrote play. 80 years since the USS Indianapolis sinking!! Wowza
