6 of 6 · most liked first3/10. Like Yoshimura’s brilliant but under-seen YORU NO KAWA/UNDERCURRENT/NIGHT RIVER (1956), some of the greatest pleasures of the film are in his use of colour and framing. And here he makes exceptional use of widescreen, too.

It captures some Rebecca-like vibes and themes: a marriage of unlikely souls, a ghostly presence that haunts the relationship, with a noirish, psychological, Gothic postwar mood.
