What people are saying
Mixed reception: praised as a fun puzzle game, criticized as an inferior Into the Breach clone.
Many players enjoy Tyrant's Blessing as a lighthearted puzzle game similar to Into the Breach, praising its variety of characters and mechanics. Some find it addictive and a must-play for turn-based strategy fans. [4][7][13]
However, a significant number of players feel the game is too similar to Into the Breach but worse, with balance issues, lack of depth, and misleading marketing. Some call it a mobile port or cash grab, and others find the difficulty obnoxious or the puzzle aspect a chore. [2][25][32][36]

60 of 193 · most liked firstAs a veteran Into the Breach player, I jumped into this thinking I knew everything and inevitably got slapped by the mechanical differences. Writing this review as of 100% completion of the achievements list (and yes, I'm aware it's only been out two and a half days), I robustly recommend this under its own merits. Mechanically, it shares a lot of its base structure with Into the Breach. Its core loop is roughly the same, though with a set map path. It has nearly every damage type, tile action,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Off the bat, I need to address that just because I don't recommend it DOES NOT mean this is a "bad game" - the game does what it's meant to do well. It feels like a good logic puzzle and it's fun and satisfying to get it right. In a vacuum, I'd absolutely recommend this game... Unfortunately, we're not in a vacuum. Tyrant's Blessing takes *a lot* of inspiration from Into the Breach. The two games play *very* similarly. They're too similar - and I don't say this in a "copycat" sort of way, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished my first run. I don't know about this one. I enjoyed some of it, but it was also a bit bland. Would give this a "maybe" review The good: + Lots of playable characters + Pretty design + Plays well, like Into The Breach + I enjoyed combat The meh: - I would've liked some more character customization - A lot of the battles are pretty similar - Run takes too long. I feel this should be more high-stakes, and 45 minutes max. I play pretty fast and I clocked in at about 1:30 for a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is pretty good. But to be blunt and a bit mean, there is almost no reason to get this if you haven't already played Into the Breach. This basically does everything ITB does but a little worse. The most annoying thing is you regularly can't see enough information without it being a chore, and sometimes just isn't shown at all. Some of the items you buy will say "uses per battle" and give you a number... yet for no apparent reason half of them simply leave you guessing. Monsters with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I expected something like FFT, but this doesn't have a campaign or "story mode". It's much closer to a mobile game with the quick, mission based runs and the character pool. I don't think I understand what they were going for at all with this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's 5$ on google play. Don't waste your money here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was miss marketed as a tactics game. It is 100% a puzzle game in the same vein as Into the breach. -Pros. It's a positional puzzle game almost identical to Into the Breach. There is always a solve whether are not you can see it is another question. If you enjoy math and puzzles you cant get a better product. -Cons The problem with this game is that the puzzle scales off of how strong you currently are. Buying items and upgrading abilities gives you the illusion that your getting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun puzzle game disguised as an SRPG. The gameplay loop is fun and the diverse characters and mechanics stretch out the experience. It has less balance than Into the Breach, but that just introduces a different kind of fun. Just because Popeyes has the best chicken sandwich doesn't mean you can never ever ever ever order the Wendy's Spicy Crispy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a bad game, the gameplay system works well and the strategic puzzle aspect of the fights are really fun. The shade system can be a bit stressful but it's a fun twist on the genre as you essentially have to plan 2x or 3x times in advance with each movement. My main issue for the game comes from the inability to freely change character units. It feels dumb that i can unlock new characters and pets who'll hangout at the camp but refuses to join the adventure. The game has a lot of unique…

Tyrant's blessing is an "Into the Breach" clone where you play as Lindal, a princess cast out from her own kingdom after a usurper unrightfully murders her father the king, and steals her kingdom from right under her. Managing to escape to a refuge, she, her pet dragon and a bunch of unlikely allies…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tyrant's Blessing is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This mobile app features a simple JRPG style lightweight RPG with turn based tactical combat. So it's like Jagged Alliance if it was replaced with a high school anime club dropout fanfiction and cringey anime art and pixelcrap. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this mobile app. So you'll spend a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good idea with a pretty unbalanced (or just bad?) game design. Into the Breach with fantasy heroes is a good take on the genre but I can't say the same to the other elements. -Shade mechanic is just unbalanced. You can literally solo-kill everything with Shadow(and some other stealth heroes) while you can't escape from damage with others. -Every pet other than Zanzi is pretty much useless. Zanzi is doing damage, creating fire, and pushing the enemy, while others are mostly just pushing.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Turn-based strategy games are my kind of game…and the style of this one is definitely one of my favorites! Practically 0 luck, the player always knows what's going to happen and how and can strategically organize his party's actions in a reactive or proactive way A must play for any fan of turn based strategy games! PS: Into the Breach in a fantasy sauce
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked up this game despite being concerned about the mixed reviews - namely many people are talking about balance issues and game difficulty. Let me say right now that in my first play through I was able to complete a run using the starting characters on normal difficulty, and unlocked 5 new characters and 2 new pets for the achievements I got in the process. This game is clearly inspired by into the breach but plays a bit differently. In some of the negative reviews people have talked…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would give a neutral if I could. The game's more quaint than good. +Pretty challenging on hard +Lots of variety on characters and enemies +More than one way to beat scenarios -The store page is lying. "Decide whether to fight, rescue the living from the Undying, or gather your strength. Every choice matters throughout every day of the Uprising." implies moral choices, or really, any choices, but there is no time limit, no resources to lose and you can clear every scenario at your leisure.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The puzzle aspect is more of a bothersome chore than a fun addition to the gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not sure I should recommend this game to others or not. I like this game since Into the Breach is my most favorite turn based game. The gameplay cycle feels very similar. There are few rough corner, such as monster types and interaction between playable characters. I fought skeletons over and over for three hours, it became very repetitive. Also I couldn't understand 'shade mechanic' clearly. How can a spear man thrust himself ? There are so many characters, but it is hard to feel…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent production value but incredibly linear and boring. I exceeded 2 hours...I regret buying this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do not agree with this game being Rougelike, it would have felt way better as a normal tactics game. To begin you form a party out of 3 people and 1 pet. You can upgrade abilities (which every human char has 2, and the pet has 1) with a currency you obtain mostly by getting stars (you obtain stars by fulfilling goals during missions), a system which already reminds me of mobile games. Being rougelike, and this is the fact I hated the most, is that it locks those 4 characters! So yeah, you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yep, simple and addictive. Quite like it. It's not too difficult so it's kinda perfect to get latched on. Levels are between 2 min and 10 min for more difficult ones. I'm 4 hours in and closing on end of first run. Don't know what else is there to discover but looking forward to it. Ok, so I finished the first run with a win. Some conclusions after 5 hours: The game does not have much replayability. You aren't getting new heroes random, you are buying them as you wish and basically,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not procedural generation or roguelike. Game is ok strategic combat, but not enough variety in each individual character (only 2 skills each) to make combat interesting or progression fulfilling.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As has been pointed out a lot: This is not a Tactical RPG at heart. This plays more like a puzzle game. It is very much like Into The Breach just with a Fantasy Setting instead of Mechs. If I had a complaint it would be that the roguelike elements are very slim. You get points for achievements and buy more characters with that. But that's it for effects to carry over between runs. The art is nice and game plays smoothely. You have different difficulties to choose from and "easy" actually IS…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That is what i've beem craving for after Into the Breach and Slay the Spire! Single playthrough is surprisingly fast, hope there is more depth later. Variety of heroes is certainly good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good, lighthearted puzzle fight fun, very similar to Into the Breach, but in a fantasy setting. There is a good variety of missions, with impactful terrain features, which appears to be hand-crafted, although what missions you get are randomized in every playthrough. Unlike Into the Breach, you aren't protecting static buildings, and that makes the fights a bit easier, but there are other differences as well. When you're targeted by an attack and move out, you leave a shade behind which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game gives a very good first impression. The graphics are good, the audio is fine, the tactics mixed with puzzle style combat like Into the Breach is fun. But the game is just balanced really weirdly in ways that kinda ruins it. The main thing is how losing a single unit results in a game over, despite you having more units than can be sent into combat so there is no reason for this to be the case. It's not even like it would ruin the story because the story just consists of cringy dialog…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think folks are being a bit tough on this game- sure they've borrowed heavily from Into the Breach but they've made meaningful tweaks that change the way you'd play. Instead of having to focus on protecting a bunch of mostly stationary tiles on the board for a finite period of time, your own units are more vulnerable by virtue of the "shade" mechanic, and must work together to knock out all enemies within a target time period. I'm happy with this game, and glad that it exists.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow. I mean... I understand this is a roguelike strategy game but the difficult is just obnoxious, and I love games like XCom, Hard West, Dungeons of Nahulbek and other turn-based strategy games, but this one took it to an entirely new level. Sadly, I don't have much praise for this game. The artwork is nice. Here's what I disliked, though: No difficulty setting because devs have this obsession with making their games challenging opposed to fun for everyone. While the challenge is fun for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there is this "shade" mechanic where even if you move the shade stays in the place where you started your turn, even if you move you can be damaged so doesn't matter if you move. also the material for upgrading, selecting a new party member, change party member and some "blessing" it's all the same so it's just feels like a time consuming mechanic.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play Into the Breach instead, it's done much better. My primary reason for not liking this game is the death credits. You build up death credits to let your characters die safely each mission. Not a fan of the mechanic. I'd rather my units not die, thematically.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Not so much of a tactical RPG as it is a puzzle RPG. The overall gameplay failed to grab my interest while the shade mechanic frustrated me. Genre/Similar Games: Puzzle tactical games (Into the Breach) PROS: ✅Wide variety of characters CONS: ➖I wish you could unlock characters by means other than achievements ➖Shade mechanic can really screw up your perfect planning ➖Lack of meaningful character progression ➖No real story ➖No real roguelike elements ➖Mobile game Content (Game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not a bad game at all, but it is very derivative and not as enjoyable as the game it is inspired by, in my opinion. While playing, all I want to do is switch to Into The Breach. This game is good in a vacuum, but it is hard to recommend when Into the Breach exists.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a fantasy themed into-the-breach-like game. The core game is the same with the exception of shades, which I found to be a more interesting mechanic than protecting the energy grid. The game is better at preventing snowballing of enemies unlike into the breach, this makes it less frustrating, but also a lot easier. The cheat death mechanic also removes some of the stakes that into the breach had. The item system in this game is a near total miss, pretty much the only item you will ever use…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried it and got like 15 missions in and I realized this is less turn based tactical RPG and more puzzle game, every single fight i was involved with just felt like puzzle after puzzle and I felt like I had no actual control over tactics outside what i leveled on character when they rarely level up. I wouldn't say avoid this but unfortunately there is no neutral recommendation and I would not recommend it, but I would also not tell you to avoid it. If you like puzzles and RPGs go for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found this game by chance during the preview period when I was looking for a party-based strategy or tactical RPG game without tedious leveling mechanics, and was excited for the full release. Now that it is out, IMO it has delivered in spades. Tyrant's Blessing is a condensed tile-based tactical experience about exploiting the synergies of a small squad of four characters, without the inflated numbers or time requirements of RPGs which become trivialized by completionist play. Every choice,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit: I gave it a little more time and verified that even when you 'lose' you lose everything progression wise on your characters which means that you start over COMPLETELY when you fail. I don't get a lot of time to game each weak, between real life obligations and work, I spent more time than I should have today playing this game and it feels like it was for nothing. I've uninstalled it. Unless something changes, it was a worthless Kickstarter pledge for me. If I could get a refund at this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the first couple hours the game seems nice but you soon start to notice some things... The game is poorly balanced so you won't make it very far in before you die. You will think there must be a way to increase your stats or something... nope. Then you realize the only way to unlock characters is by unlocking achievements and then you get them randomly!!! After the first few achievements they are ridiculously difficult to unlock. You end up stuck with whatever the game rolls for you and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Badly balanced : more frustrating than challenging.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun game, most of the negative comments come from the incorrect tagging. To be honest I was tempted to downvote it because of the false advertising, but didn't mind the purchase at the end. - it's not a tactical RPG, it's a tactics game. The RPG aspect is nonexistent, hell, the dialogues can even be turned off in the menu. - it's not a roguelike. There is some variety between the runs, but overall you'll encounter the same challenges on a playthrough. Despite this the game is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10 This is NOT an RPG. This is a puzzle game. Calling this an RPG is dumber than calling devil may cry an RPG. Devil may cry has WAY more RPG mechanics than this game. You get two skills per character, you can level up those skills twice without choices. basic increase DMG by 1 etc. so that's a total of 4 upgrades for a character. You can also equip an item in each character that adds some variables to combat. That's it as far as I'm aware. No level ups, no equipment, nothing. 2 skills, 2…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Into the Breach in another theme, somewhat easier but wasn’t bad at all.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In general this is a simple turn based strategy game with a unique twist that I enjoyed (where player characters leave behind their souls before moving). I really enjoyed it for the first few runs that I did and it was fun testing out the wide variety of characters. However, in my opinion, some of the characters ended up being way more powerful/useful than others and I ended up with a pretty busted team on my 4th run. This one took me through the entire game on hard mode with very little…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Obviously inspired by Into the Breach, but changes the gameplay and strategy just enough to do its own thing. Fun game. If you like ITB then pick this up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is just my "first" impression so far. I really hate, when games are THAT cheap that the devs did not even remember the names, they gave to the Chars. It's a pity, that its totally normal nowadays. If they change the names of the chars, then they should also change it in te dialogues. Specially if they use those unusual fantasy names, nobody can remember ever. (Edit: as also usual its only a problem of "other languages".) Canceling a TEST run also counts as a defeated game. Since I like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game wanna be Into the Breach, but it's worse in nearly every aspects and doesn't bring much. If its model didn't exist, it would an okay game, but since it does just play the superior game that is Into the Breach.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PSP上玩过FFT,GB/GBA上玩过超级机器人大战、火纹系列,PC的英雄无敌系列和前阵子非常火爆的陷阵之志(into the breach)。
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not a strategy game, its a puzzle game if you like puzzle games, or games like into the breach then go for it but if you where looking for a turn based strategy game, like dark deity or FFT.... look elsewhere
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fun little game... but it's more of a phone game than a PC game, and the same game is 1/3rd the price to play on Android. I was bummed to learn I'd wasted money here. Buy this on Android?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a little masterpiece in my eyes. I have played the whole game on the Steam Deck and it was just right. A short part about what the game is: It is a fast paced round-based puzzle strategy game with rougelite elements. It is not the hardest game but also not that easy. There is a light story that accompanies the game mechanic, but the game focuses on the last past. The Quests (one Battle) takes about 5 to 10 Minutes, depending on the difficulty, the achievements unlock new…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More of a puzzle game then a turn base strategy really, and some elements like no party members swapping even when you get new characters but have to wait for a special day to get a chance to do it...really?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just like Into the Breach, but better. Or worst. Bear with me, I'll be brief: great game, even better than into the breach. I found out a bit easier than ItB, but that's not a problem. There's a lot of characters with lots of different skills that actually affects the gameplay. There's skills to upgrade and always a companion you take besides the 3 "humans". It's a great game overall. The downside I'd say would be the low number of different enemies, that should affect the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although all TRPG games can be considered puzzles to an extent, "Tyrant's Blessing" is on a whole new level. Given the extremely slow progression, layers and layers of convoluted mechanics accompanied by tangled skills, and tiny shuffled levels, this game should be treated as a puzzle roguelike. Maybe someone would like it; I do not.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- losing a single unit makes you fail your entire campaign - no real story
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like "Into The Breach", but fantasy genre, more in-depth with more mechanics, and all-around a perfect 10 out of 10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of those games, where you have to plot out every single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ turn or your basically losing, combined with some irritating mechanic, where after you move your units, they leave behind a "shadow" that the enemy can still hit. So your characters are occupying 2 places in spacetime, for some weird reason. You generally have more enemies on the screen then allies, as well as multiple "neutral" targets you have to protect. So, you will have 4 units (3 +1 "pet" that has only partial…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fine game, a take on Into the Breach. The game looks beautiful and has plenty of characters to choose from that make each run very different. However, I really hate the shade system. I understand it was made so enemies still have something to attack after you move away, but it makes the game really less fun than it should. It's so counter intuitive... your archer steps back to shoot at the target... only to realize his shade is in the way and that he's going to hurt himself... I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like Into the Breach, you'll like this game. That being said, there are a few notes that take a few points off. The "mirage" system which leaves behind a shadow which still takes damage when you move is unintuitive, largely unexplained, and not very fun to engage with. The campaign is also long by comparison to Into the Breach and you can only really change play styles at random when the game offers to swap out units for a reward. Gold/items are also not very useful except in specific…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this on sale, and it's not really my flavor but I will recommend it. If you're into Into the Breach style game, it is challenging and forces you to think which is more than I can say for most games. Very solid, good work. I just felt like there's too much unnecessary restriction and strange quirks for me, even though they do make it more challenging. Not being able to use the new characters you recruit until a new game, not being able to take back your move, not having access to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Into the Breach and fantasy tactics games, so this should be an easy recommendation from me. And if you love grid-based tactics, this might be a winner for you. Unfortunately, I couldn't get past the rough edges: Can't see battle goals while deploying units. Hovering over units doesn't show their movement range. Why are shades left behind sometimes but not other times? Felt inconsistent. Equipment graphics look out of place Party setup screen and several others have a lot of dead…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm hitting return before the 2 hours are up. There was a sale and I really enjoyed Into the Breach. But I'm going to either keep playing into the breach, or try Crawl Tactics. The UI seemed a little off, but I'm sure with more time I'd learn it. I was playing with a controller fyi. I did not like how the party you pick for the campaign is locked, and it takes too long to get into harder missions. Picking the maps feels like an illusion of choice. I think if they let you start with 6…
