To Kill a Mockingbird
Scout Finch, 6, and her older brother Jem live in sleepy Maycomb, Alabama, spending much of their time with their friend Dill and spying on their reclusive and mysterious neighbor, Boo Radley. When Atticus, their widowed father and a respected lawyer, defends a black man named Tom Robinson against fabricated rape charges, the trial and tangent events expose the children to evils of racism and stereotyping. We read that book to each other at night when she was 12 years old. Then we're going out to dinner...Dad's treat. I can't wait.❤️

We took turns reading the book to each other when she was 12. This makes the passing of Robert Duvall even more resonant to both of us. Rest well, Boo.

He read the book in one night, immediately accepted the role and helped secure financing through his production company. He even visited Harper Lee’s father — the inspiration for Finch — to prepare. /5

Don’t just watch the movie. Scout’s insights on white womanhood never make it into the movie, but are essential part of story.

Here is my list of my favorite Robert Duvall’s roles: ~~- Tender Mercies: This is such a low key movie where Duvall illustrates dealing with alcoholism and how to build relationships as a sober person.~~ Unfortunately there can only be ten so one has to go. - Second Hand Lions. Like Jones and Duvall in Lonesome Dove, Duvall and Caine in Second Hand Lions is such an excellent pairing of two of the greats. Duvall was great as the tough guy…

I grew up with a family who didn't really like transgender people or identities. They were fine with gay or bi people, just not trans people. They thought they were their birth gender, that they were delusional, and wanted to "shield" me from learning about it or people who were trans. In second or third grade, when I was eight years old, I really liked tomboy characters.…

The movie forces his kids to see him as a person, while he tries to protect them from the vile side of humanity, namely racism. This movie, and the book before it, are truly amazing for the width and breadth of this hero.
